Dude hasn't logged in since 3 years ago.

Want to give us some symptoms and more info?

You haven't done anything stupid like use coolant other than red/pink, or mix coolant colors?

Recently refill coolant, and truck isn't refilled and burped properly?

Old thermostat, OR new thermostat was installed with the jiggle valve improperly oriented?

When was the last time you changed the water pump and timing belt, it's called for every 100k miles or 10yrs, and if the timing belt fails, you risk turning your engine into a boat anchor.

Potentially someone install an aftermarket coolant temp sensor, and it's failed? (This is common for aftermarket electronics, always buy Denso brand, from a reputable source, i.e. never buy auto parts on scAmazon or fleaBay)

Shifty, just got it two weeks ago. Just 1 thing after the other and with my work schedule I’ve had pay to have it done. As far as I know the mechanic is doing all of this correctly. So far since getting it I have had the AC compressor replaced, alignment done, radiator, thermostat, water pump and timing kit.

If you want to avoid getting fleeced, I highly recommend you stop everything, and read this thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

Once you get thru it, if you’re certain the frame is good. I’d press on. Otherwise you may want to cut losses.

If it wasn’t overheating before the timing belt and water pump replaced, you need to consider cold hard facts:
    • The work your mechanic has done or parts he chose has 100% caused this problem.
    • Your mechanic may have used shit parts, and may have installed a defective water pump. Aisin is OEM brand and the kit can be easily had, just don’t buy from know knockoff:counterfeit sources like scAmazon or fleaBay
    • Your mechanic may not have properly refilled the coolant, you may have an air bubble in the system needing burp. Air bubbles will cause overheat, as will faulty thermostats, or faulty radiator caps, and a few other things that could prevent water flow. Any half ass shadetree mechanic knows how to diagnose if that’s the case.
    • Your mechanic may not have installed the thermostat correctly. The jiggle valve must be installed at 11-1 o’clock with high noon orientation being correct, lest you may end up with air bubbles in the system; this position is contrary to other engines which may use a 6 o’clock orientation.
    • These Toyotas should only have RED or PINK coolant. This is something any legitimate Toyota mechanic should know. Using the wrong coolant or mixing coolants can lead to blockages from precipitate etc. if he didn’t use red or pink coolant, go get your truck, this mechanic is a fucking idiot.
I’m sure there are other things to add to the list but that’s the brunt of it.
