Nevada recently opened up formal reciprocity with a number of states, and accepts the permits from a number of other states. I think the issue prior to this recent change was that a Nevada CCW required the permit holder to qualify with their weapon.. Because that wasn't a requirement for other states they were hesitant to accept those permits.

Did NV do away with the qualify rule?

I loved when NV changed on this - I live 70 minutes from the NV border and go there frequently.. One less state I have to avoid when making my way through the country.

Don't quite understand that, since TX has always required weapons qualification for their LTC. You'd have to be a really piss-poor shot not to be able to pass it, but it is required for the initial issue.

Hmm. Didn't know that. I just renewed online. Got discount as a vet, (or could have as a senior citizen, haha) but no test or proficiency required. Just pays yer money and gets yer renewal.

The other thing that I like about having the LTC, at least in Texas, is the FFL does not have to call in for an NICS check. Not that it takes any time to do that, and you still have to fill out the Form 4473, of course. But it does save one step if the guy's really busy.

Yeah, this is true on a federal level. Some states have their own hoops to shuffle through though.

Strangely enough, I live in Texas, and know tons of gun enthusiasts, yet I have never seen anyone open carry. Probably because most guys got their concealed permits long before they could.

I live and hunt in the mtns and did not consider owning a handgun until I had my young daughter with me on a grouse hunt. This was a number of years ago, we were sitting on the tailgate after a hunt and this man in full camo with a bow walked into my camp without announcing himself, my shotgun was next to me so I put my hand on it and he stopped dead in his tracks and backtracked into the woods. I realized at that moment, I was not afraid of the critters as much as I was of a potential psycho trying to hurt or take my wife or daughter while out in BFE. I bought a Ruger Blackhawk 44 magnum after that and keep it handy while camping with the family now ;). I taught my wife how to load, unload and shoot it and she enjoys its impact power LOL

I live in TX and have only seen 2 people open carry since the law was passed, the 2nd one happened to be yesterday.

I like to open the carry the "shoot me first law"

Folks are funny when it comes to their enumerated rights. Either they are willing to strongly defend them or they are willing to easily give them up. The problems stem from when other's easily want to give up YOUR enumerated rights.

So you only advocate citizens using their enumerated rights when it's an "optics-neutral" situation?

The reason we have OC in Texas is due to inadvertent brandishing incidents. You CC, but reach up to grab a box of cereal at WalMart and expose your weapon. Previously that would be considered brandishing, which is against the CC tenant.

I'm asking why someone feels they need to bring an A2 stocked AR strapped to their back in an affluent store like Starbucks? What's the real honest reason for it, be truthful. And if you say for self defense we're going to have a longer discussion as to why that idea has about 30 better ones before it.

When it comes to enumerated rights, as specified in the BoR, feelings are a slippery slope and have nothing to do with the "argument" of how a person should be able to exercise them. I don't question other's rights nor how they choose to exercise them. You want to read the NYT? Fine, I'll take WaPo but won't question why you chose the NYT and we can still be friends while not infringe on anyone's 1A rights.

Let me ask you why you think/feel a person's personal choice in how they exercise THIER rights should have any bearing in the discussion? And if you use strawman argument, we're gonna have a much longer discussion as you why that argument has about 30 better ones against it.
