Just wondering what everyones thoughts are on Open carry. I know it depends on what state you are in and the laws.

I think its dumb to open carry if its legal but maybe those that do it don't have a conceal permit. I was behind a guy in Baskin Robbins that was open carrying and i could have easily taken his gun in 2 secs as he was pre-occupied with his kids and ice cream. Just doesn't make me feel any safer.
I only open carry in the back country when I am hiking

The only places I have one visible is when I’m out hunting, or am driving around out in BFE. Never have open carried because I don’t want the headaches associated with it, and don’t want people to know anyway. I live in the gun loving part of CO too.

Not very often...sometimes when fishing and i have a backpack and fishing vest on but i try to avoid it. I live in the sticks so it wouldn't draw to much attention lots of folks do open carry around here. I just don't want people seeing what got till there is a need.

In my experience Most ppl that I see open carry have no idea how to carry and are more of a liability. You can always spot those soup sandwiches by the Walmart special uncle mikes holsters with no rention, carrying their off brand gun show gun, a shitty belt that can’t keep the weapon in place or carry the weight of said firearm, a matching shit holster for a spare mag, a can of dr. Pepper in one hand a cigarette in the other or dangling from their mouth and typically obnoxious, last but not least the gut shoving everything over.

I carry concealed and take that right very seriously. Whatever firearm I trust must be reliable and reputable, the gear that enables the carry is just as important and must be of high quality. I expect the gun to shoot, I expect the ammo to feed and cycle, belt to support, holster to secure and release on my draw or reholster.

My carry gear should be good enough to use in an idpa, Uspsa, ipsc match and not get disqualified. All while being discreet, concealable, and functional reliable.

I have no desire to open carry. I always, always carry concealed, though. My two cents - open carry is good at rallies where a point needs to be made. I'm all for it happening at events like that. Otherwise, I think it's dumb. No one needs to agree with me.

FL is not an open carry state (believe it or not). And I’m actually relieved it isn’t. I have a CCW and regularly carry concealed, but we have way too many morons around here to be walking around with openly visible firearms.

There is some kind of clause that allows open carry on a privately owned fishing vessel or when traveling to and from said fishing vessel (like at the boat ramp I guess), perhaps for pirates? Lol. But I don’t want to get salt water all over my handguns anyway.

We don't have a restriction on open carry here, so the couple times I've seen it have been by some wannabe kewl guys. Last one was a young fat phuk wearing a drop-leg holster with a full sized double stack shiny pistola. Shorts, sneakers, and his bestest tee shirt with the sleeves cut off. Loser. Just because you/we can doesn't make it right.

I always conceal because that's what my permit says. And I'm extra self conscious about whether it shows or not.

My personal favorite is when people open carry with the awesome plastic holster one gets when buying a Springfield XD pistol.

    ^^^^^this.

I can open carry, but choose not to. I would rather not be the first target for someone, nor do i want people knowing what i have.

I have open carried only a couple of occasions and i wasn't in the city....i was in BFE and I was with a friend with nobody else around.

Agreed! In my experiences, almost all open carry individuals I've run across were typically very uninformed individuals trying to make a statement. All it does is draw attention to yourself which attracts unwanted attention.

Just the other day, I was in a Wa Wa station and a guy was in there with an open carry. He was wearing it at the 5 o'clock position (fail) and strutting around like he was King David. Acting very strange. Strange enough that while I and the Mrs were concealed, we were watching him very closely along with everyone else in the joint. Someone even called in a LEO just to be in the store. Way too much attention just so one can act like you're cool.

My Plastic XD holster works well with my backpack but thats about it. Seems like most spend just as much $$ finding a good holster as they do on the firearm.

If you were in FL in the late 80's, the legislature 'accidently' passed an open carry law and it lasted for a few days then got redacted. Folks got excited, biz owners put up signs saying no guns allowed etc. It really only lasted a few days but the gun toting folks had fun with it for a short time.
