Unfortunately we’re at a point where there isn’t an option for a new good quality 1/2 ton pickup truck that can be purchased in North America.

They’re currently all unreliable, shoddily made shit boxes, including the Toyota. Plan and buy accordingly.

Hopefully the situation changes and one of the brands will figure it out and offer a trouble free reliable truck.

My money is still on Toyota to do that given their history and that of the big 3.

I don’t disagree, but they’re pretty clearly not there yet with the 3rd Gen. So 2022 and 2023 buyers are beta testing.

Even once the QC issues get hammered out, the 3rd Gen is still lacking in quite a few areas.

I agree on the first point.

I agree to the second point based on personal experiences of people I know. Not that my truck is a work of art. It has its flaws.
But if all my problems so far can be solved with a large paper clip - unclogging sunroof drains I will take it.

But on your third and last point that would kill the parts and service departments.
So it is not a good business model.

Sorry - buying something new with built up expectations based on hype of prior generations and then reporting back that it failed to meet your heightened expectations and calling it a “review” is just not my thing.

He brings out some previously well documented issues but overall it’s just another guy who feels the world needs their opinion to better function. Sorry - speaking for the world I can say I have gotten along just fine without his reviews and will likely continue to do so going forward.

I mean - if you want to create something and become the next YouTube star - create something useful and original. Show me something no one else has or share a completely fresh take on a topic - not just continue down this road of “I overpaid for a new truck and it’s not the revolutionary experience I was expecting it to be” and pointing out that things aren’t perfect.

Hell - I don’t even own a 3rd gen - nor do I plan on purchasing one in the near future and I think the guy is just another hack creating a hit piece on the brand trying to create a buzz around himself instead. No - the truck is not perfect. Show me any 2022/2023 full size truck that is then and I’ll watch the guy again.

I currently drive a Tacoma. A TRD Pro without a power seat. Moving into a Tundra will be revolutionary for me.

Yep, the lacking features are not universally agreed upon, but something almost everyone agrees on is reliability and high build quality are desirable regardless of vehicle.

Think of it this way: if all the trucks and cars on the market were well made, and lasted a long time the rest of the buying decision would come down to price, features, and personal preference.

    Toyota offered a trouble-free, reliable halfton from 2000 until 2021. What's changed?

My 2000 tundra access cab sr5 4x4 needed a new transmission within a year of ownership. After that it was solid.

    On the truck side.
That Toyota is / was a unicorn. Never to be seen again.
Appreciate what you have for the fact they carried it for so long with so little change, production numbers, etc...
    Its a truck - truck.
All these 1/2 tons being made now are complicated SUV's with a giant I Phone and a bed.

    On the business side.
    Everything is totally integrated.
So Geopolitics are threatening it all.
China is threatening to takeover the country that makes the chips.
It will never be the same.

All perspective I suppose. To me HP, torque and payload are not features but specs or capabilities. I think of features as leather seats, etc.

    Semantics maybe. It don't matter.

I think we can all just say the Gen 3 was a bit of a let down, and left quite a bit to be desired, but should be ironed out before Gen 4 release 2036. ( based on previous 14 year life cycle)

Edit: Thread needed a little humor

By 2036, all of the current 2nd gen folks will comment on how unreliable the 4th gen is compared to their 3rd gen.

It's got dual sunroofs but no 4Auto or easy lift and lower tailgate?

I'm still not a fan of his pro-Ford/anti-GM bias. And he mentioned the horsepower plenty but couldn't be bothered to memorize the torque number too?

Even the old analog broken clock is still right at least 2 times every 24 hours.
Do you know the one in my 993 still works. (knock on wood) Keeping power to it I think is key. Keep it moving.

So Reports are he makes $100k US just from Youtube revenue every month.
    Not to shabby.
And I don't think anyone needs to be a rocket scientist to predict that the Pandemic era/post era vehicles will be less reliable than those that were considered reliable vehicles - pre Pandemic - for all the reasons in my previous post.

As long as you never get on a first name basis with the Service Manager, I think it is ok.

Just realized I forgot to post a pic for you. Standard duffel bag for scale. There’s definitely a downgrade in storage room.
