Aren't the Aisins supposed to be the good ones built by Toyota?

This new 10-speed has its issues but I think it's due to the programming in traffic it lurches and jerks from time to time and slamming gears kinda feels like a crappy valve body especially rolling downhill in traffic. Highway driving is something I really enjoy in this new Tundra with good low rpm torque and holds its gear uphill.

around town comfort/normal the trans feels sluggish, but if i put it into sport/sport + it all goes away.

but since ive gotten use to comfort (hi-way) and normal for around town, my muscle memory has adjusted to take offs to aleviate this. the problem with sport/+ is it kills the mpg around town :)

Yes, and it's the AISIN's with the Cummins that are having the issues. Both failures and lack of product to fix them.

I have my '18 Tundra and a '17 4Runner Limited with the Torsen AWD. I bought the 4Runner off my son as he drives a company pickup.
The 4Runner trumps the Tundra in all categories except when I want to carry nasties in the bed or tow something really heavy or in the bed.
I plan on using the 4Runner as a winter vehicle.

Mostly spend my time in eco but if the trans become really sluggish I pop it into normal or sport mode and floor it and take it to redline and let the trans shift from 2-3-4 at full throttle this usually fixes it for a couple of days then it's back :notsure:

We're curious about the 6th gen ourselves. Similar boat, we have GSPs and labs. Right now they do the backseat just fine, but we're starting a family so the room behind the second row still gives them space to roam. As much as we wanted to like the new Sequoia, definitely agree with you. We've been looking at the current 4Runner, and may jump on it if the 6th gen sacrifices some of the convenience and storage that the 5th gen has.

I live out in the country and drove 45 minutes to a new small town Toyota dealer for the first time to get an oil change.
When I arrived scattered about the lot were 1/2 dozen New Tundras all CrewCabs and all but one lifted and on big tires. Then I walked inside and saw what is in the picture. It looked like a monster truck parked next to the 4Runner on the outside. It's an illusion as the inside is not that big again compared to the 4runner. .
While I was there I talked with the manager about how things were going. He told me the fellow who owned that one in the showroom waited 18 months for it and was picking it up this week. We talked about the one I almost bought and I reminded him I wanted a DC but was disappointed with the back seat area among other things.
He told me most of his former Tundra customers were DC owners who wanted the longer bed but not the 8 ft bed. Except for a couple Toyota die hards that agreed to a CrewCab - he said he lost his other DC customers. "They totally screwed up the backseat on DC, they should have just offered a bench" his words.

As I was leaving he told me he had a buyer for my 4Runner if interesed. hah hah.
The wait on a new Tundra is 6 months.

You describe exactly what I had on my 911 after PPF installed. If you know it's the mirror get some little clear dots like you see on a glass table and move them around 1 or 2 close to the edge until noise is gone. Unbelievable I know but it worked flawlessly on my 911

I’ve been out touring the mid west, Utah to Arizona in a 2021 4Runner SR5, reminds me of my 2015 Tundra SR5, just smaller, but dated…. Boy do I miss my 2023 Tundra Limited HV!! I’m loving it out here, but missing my truck!

Opposite experience in the snow for me ...Tundra way more planted over the 4Runner. Both were basically stock but 4Runner was an Sr5

The Torsen diff is da bomb.
    It transforms the 4Runner.
The feel is sure footed and the system has a good reliability history.
Its the main reason I bought the 4Rnr off my son.
They should add it to the higher trims Tundra and make standard again on the Sequoia.
But I wonder if the new drivetrain platform has introduced complications.
We all know that Toyota buyers of the higher trim Tundra don't mind paying more for more features.
