Yeah the problem is they are trying to dip one toe in each bucket and it doesn't appear to be working super well.

His towing and fuel economy tests are good stuff. I watch and mostly enjoy and think it’s good until he has a moment where he whines about something like struggling to reach the oil dipstick or crawl into the bed or cab. All along he’s talking about important stuff like fuel economy, confort, reliability and capacity and then all of a sudden he’s whining about being an average height guy in an era when trucks sit higher to give us the macho look and ground clearance we all demand.

It comes off to me as soccer mom-ish and I could live without that part. If you don’t like how hard it is to crawl into the bed of your 6.2 liter Z71 that tows 8k with under 2 inches of squat I don’t know what to tell you, just go get a Ford Maverick. It’s there specifically for people who stress about that kind of stuff. There are half tons with 9-10 inches of ground clearance that can tow 8k comfortably all day and do mild off roading. There will be compromises to that. We know, we’ve all factored that in and accepted it already. We would buy other vehicles if we cared that much about reaching everything without stretching and being a bit uncomfortable.

    Patience my friends... Patience.

Tundra 2022 just came out a year ago. It'll be just fine.

I do like the guy and his reviews. I think it's very simple and down to earth. He does have a point that Tundra isn't really exiting... But he did mention a few positive things in his review as well.

Of course he buys a new truck every year, so you have to listen to his feedback keeping this in mind.

I do like Andre's review at tfl better though... Much more detailed as he has more experience

ya well see, but like I said before it was the same thing before.

some guys that liked the 7/8 size tundra 2000-2006 were alienated when they went to a real full-size and also the price went up. Same thing there, it's too big some said.

it just goes round and round, but its the same deal.

all that said, this is the hardest launch they have had on a new toyota truck that Ive ever seen, more single types of issues that I have seen. time will tell if it was the pandemic, suppliers, etc or just design problems.

Im going to get a new one and see for myself.

I look at forums and reviews before I buy used. Good tools to evaluate longterm ownership. They're just tools though. Still have to go start one cold and drive it. Today would be great to evaluate a used cargo van (if I could afford the ridiculous prices for AWD vans).

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
    Thought it was delayed?

The angle of the driveway makes it look like it has a Carolina squat. Did the rear air bags already shit the bed?

I agree with this, and time will tell. I have been with Toyota for years because of reliability and I hope that is the case with the new Tundras. Their vehicles do not come without issues, it just seems that most of them are minor (minus waste gate, lol). We dealt with some recalls on my wife's brand new 2020 Highlander Platinum when we got it, but all of them were little inconveniences.

I talk to friends that drive the other big 3 and hear a lot of problems that put their trucks in the shop for a couple days or more. I was originally looking at F150s, which are good trucks and we drive a bunch at work, but so many of my friends that own them told me about all the issues they have had and it made me go back to looking at Toyota. I said about a year ago that I was going to wait for them to work out the kinks with the Third Gen Tundras before I bought, but we needed a full size truck and I caved early. The third gen taco had issue as well, maybe not as many, but any launch of a completely new build will come with early adopter taxes. It is unfortunate, but true. In a year or two there will be a lot of minor tweaks I am sure and there will be a lot less complaints, just my speculation.

All that said, I have 2k miles on my SR5 so far and I have been very happy with it, but everyone has different opinions as well as expectations. I have always opted for lower trim levels just because I am a firm believe there is less to go wrong. We will see if she lives up to my expectations.

The other is still delayed. This is a different one from a different local dealer up here. Kinda glad it worked as I like the WCP better than the silver.

I honestly tried for a raptor and had a deal worked for a 2022 one but the trade value was too low for our suv. I was willing to take a hit given it was a small town in bfe but it was 6k lower. Couldn’t justify it.

It doesn’t look like it squats to me. Maybe a little more leveled than I would expect stock.

    Nice truck, Dr!

Yeah if I judge the daylight showing breath the truck it looks dead level. Just an optical illusion with the driveway angle.

Had to flip Dr.Z some shit. Not that he cares since he’s going to buy a different truck by the end of the week.

Driveway is on an incline, I always put in neutral and apply parking brake and roll off the excess, then put in park maybe that’s it?

I did get an email my 23 CRV sport touring is built. But I’m going to pass on it. Drove one this week and nothing special

Everything seems great. Wind noise isn’t abnormal but it’s 25mph cross winds when I picked it up.

seals look like they did on my pro. No rattles not even the speaker rattle. Everything seems solid and paint looks better than my 22 pro.

tell you what though. They had a demo platinum sequoia there. I finally got to see it and play with it in person.

that third row and cargo is atrocious. I have a deposit on a TRD pro one with a forum member but I’m prob going to cancel. That shelf system just ain’t cutting it. That third row needed to fold flat.

I did see an all dark gray TRD Pro Sequoia drive away off the lot the other day and it looked absolutely stunning. Very tough looking vehicle. Didn't get to take a peek at the inside nor the third row, but from the outside it looked way better than I thought it would in person.

Toyota/Lexus should just stop screwing around and either build a Suburban/Yukon/Escalade competitor on its own platform, or get out of that market.

Then bring us the next generation Land Cruiser Prado with the V35A-FTS and a 30 gallon fuel tank, Torsen transfer case, front and rear lockers, and keep the silly options at bay to keep the price around $60K.

I would buy one of either to be honest.

I'm pleased how the wife's 23 rides. Yes the third row does not lay flat with the floor boards but I understand hybrid batteries going to take up space somewhere. Glad we didn't hold out for full sun roof as I ride in the second row seat on occasion and need the headroom. It will make enough room if needed in the back for most errands. Anything more ... that's what my tundra is for realistically...5B848CBE-87D2-45D8-BEA0-E04A2331E191.jpg

Strange request considering suburban/yukon/escalade all share the same GM T1 Vehicle Platform as the truck counterpart. Sharing platform is the only way to keep the price below 60k.

That would be awesome. So would a high-payload workhorse Tundra inspired by the Hilux.

I don’t think either will ever happen for the North American market.

I suspect what he's thinking is to put the Tundra and Sequoia on their own platform rather than sharing with the Tacoma and 4Runner and who knows what else.

Then again, if they can make a crew cab standard bed or double cab long bed Tundra on the current platform, they could make a long wheelbase Sequoia to compete with the Suburban/Yukon XL/ Expedition Max if they really wanted to.

    :notsure:

The Highlander definitely has one of the worst storage areas behind the rear seats among the mid size 3 row SUVs right now.

Which is why I(and I think others) wish they offered a non-hybrid. More interior space, less money and less weight.

The GM suvs have IRS(which is not shared with the truck) and dont have a completely stupid cargo area. Same with the Expedition/Navigator or Armada/QX.

when the Suburban did have a solid axle its third row sucked. Rented a few and my coworkers had to sit back there and were not happy

I agree; I believe Toyota only wants to compete against Tahoe, Armada, Expedition (non-max), etc. I don't think the TNGA-F platform limits the truck size because look at this ridiculous Crew Max with the Long bed.

Agree with a lot of what you say about this '22 sh!tshow lately, but not this. Toyota has made a fortune on the Tundra brand starting in 2000. There is no way they want out of this market; no way, no how.
And the Nissan Titan dis is unfair, that truck may be an ugly duckling to some, but unlike the Gen 3 has a great reputation for reliability. Nissan knows it too with a 5yr/100k basic warranty.
Can't imagine that Toyota isn't shitting bricks internally about this debut, and it's hard to imagine Mike Swears staying in his job but who knows? There is zero accountability anywhere anymore.
