    Too many, but not enough....
Well the best part about this is, they are molded in to the cowl. only way to replace it is to get a new cowl. or use some really sticky double sided tape like yours truely......

I sealed up the passenger side a few weeks back after finding some evidence in my cabin filter. Totally missed the holes on the driver side!

Meant to ask this in earlier post. When I was replacing the filter I peaked in best I could to see if anything else was damaged and it appeared this thing (noted at the back wall in photo)6E7ECAA3-F582-4609-8DA6-302F0809062D.jpg was chewed too…what is it? Is it Important? Is it worth fixing?

When the mice got into my air filter they chewed that up as well. I can't notice any difference or problems with the way air is distributed, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

I have no idea either, but I don't think its that important. What is important is keeping the little bastards from getting back in there, have you done the screen mod yet on your rig?

Not yet. Only read about the problem and ordered the filter in the past few days. I just got the truck so I’m not sure when the damage was done. Doubtful at my house. All my mice are in my garage/shed.

In addition I need to get some better weather. Have you performed?

If you have mice in your garage and shed, definitely take the time to seal off your Tundra as they will probably make there way into it at some point, and can cause some serious damage. Lots of great threads here describing the best way to seal off the ducts.

I think I have the small little red squirrels getting into mine. Heard a clicking sound like a leaf or something was in the fan/vent. So I checked the filter and it was full of leaves and junk. Cleaned it out, filter had a huge hole eaten thru it so replaced it.

Checked it again a week later…… and again leaves and junk plus another hole in the brand new filter. So after cleaning it out again I then turned the fan on full blast and opened the hood so I could spray “Lysol” into the air vent intake.

Didn’t spray a crazy amount but enough and it went thru the entire system, I changed the airflow after 20-30 seconds so all the modes/vent settings got a little Lysol. Figured it should hopefully kill off any rodent germs.

Checked it the next day, and all was good, but I haven’t replaced the filter yet, so right now it doesn’t have a filter. Thinking I might cut a piece of screen to fit the top of the filter. That won’t stop them from get’n in but it should keep them from eating a brand new filter every week.

Had the same issue with my Tacoma.

So I’m walking down the driveway to get the mail and as I’m walking back I see a little Red Squirrel coming from the front area of my house carrying a big huge dried up hydrangea flower. The flower head was bigger than the darn squirrel.

So he gets like half way across the driveway…… maybe like 5-6 feet from my truck and he stops and looks me right in the eye. I yelled out “You better NOT you little rascal you”. And I swear he looked at me and winked……then ran right under the front of my truck and jumped up into the engine bay.

So I opened the cabin filter compartment and sure enough it was full of leaves/dried up hydrangea flowers which seem to be this little fellows favorite. So out with all the crap and got the shop vac again to clean it all out.

Everything I tried had FAILED. So as a last resort I got out a trap and set it under the engine. Sure enough just an hour later there he was. Put the trap in the bed and drove about 8 miles away and released the little trouble maker.

No issues since and it’s been over 2 weeks now. So I put in a brand new cabin filter. But this time I cut a piece of screen to put on top. I know it won’t stop it from happening again if another critter figures out how to get in there, but it should keep the filter from being destroyed.

So it looks like I’ll check it weekly and if another critter shows up I’ll have to relocate another one.

I put a device that emits a sound that they do not like. Been using it all winter. Just checked everything and have found no traces of mice in my engine bay. The cabin air filter was good. We have mice cause I catch them in traps all the time.

After reading this thread I had to check mine. Looked ok besides pieces of dried leaves and dust/dirt. Oh, and 2 little pin feathers. I must’ve hit a little bird not long ago. I’ll have to change the filter soon.

Bought my truck September '21 and have almost 11,000 miles so far. This past winter was spent in a campground with Live Oak trees. The lower front fenders have been cleaned 4 times while there and the cowl removed yesterday for the hardware cloth mod. 20220506_074454.jpg 20220506_094712.jpg

We've got the two dogs and we have enough woods and plants that we see a fair amount of snakes. So far, no mice or catalytic converter thieves.
