So I’ve got about $80 in Amazon gift cards. Thinking of buying the fumoto valve, clip and aluminum oil canister. My question is about the valve. Are the threads so long that you think it is leaving a little oil in the bottom of the pan, compared to just removing a plug and getting every drop out that you can?

I’m pretty OCD about getting as much old oil out of the engine as possible when changing fluids. I have been known to dump a little fresh oil in with the plug removed just to be certain I’m leaving as little amount of sludge in the bottom of the pan as possible.

@Noodle sorry I think I was mistaken I thought you had the fomoto valve. I was in the middle of researching multiple threads.

IMO no the threads aren’t that long. I’ve got an extra valve at home along with the original drain plug. When I get home this evening I’ll get some side by side comparison pics for you.

The owners manual will tell you how much oil, but mine is 7 qts. You don't want to overfill it. Someone here posted 8 qts and that is not correct.

My manual says 7.9. I don’t know if it’s different for the earlier years. I would think it would be the same. I heard one guy say he put nine quarts in there! I put 8 quarts and it’s always perfect.

Ah, thanks for that info. I know my manual says 7 qts but I have the 07 model. Maybe the Gen3 has a larger oil pan. Great info.

Yeah it does come flying out of there doesn’t it!? I bought a large 10 quart oil pan thinking it would catch it but it just splashes out of there. So for the time being until I get my Fumoto valve I cut the bottom out of a milk jug on an angle and hold it underneath the drain plug to contain the splashes. Still up in the air if I want that thing though. My luck I would somehow smash my skid plate and shear it off and run my engine dry.

Fumoto valve helps with the clear tube as well..before I had a cardboard that covered the tire n wheel with a section cut out to go up to the cv axle so that it wouldn't splash...I have a 6" lift and the thick skid plate covers it I also got the little lock that goes on it

Dude I haven’t forgot about you. I’ve been busy as hell doing the Richmond home show this weekend and had a good deal of damage at the house today from the wind storm we had. I’ll try to get you some pics in the morning.

Tip for first timers that don’t have the fumoto valve, before draining your oil take a old washer solvent bottle and cut the top off. At the bottom cut the the center out say 3” diameter. Now when the flood begins you’ve got a sort of splash guard for the wheel. Just have to good aiming judgement with placement. Usually if you place the solvent bottle about even with the drain plug your g2g. Hope this helps

I always heard all of that about Pennzoil, not Valvoline. :gossip: I’ve always been a Valvoline guy.

7.9 quarts (with filter change) on my ‘16 5.7 FFV too.

I’ve settled on Mobil 1’s oil filter. The construction of it is much nicer than Toyota’s or Wix’s. The Wix one gave me the wrong filter housing drain valve too. Fram is a joke.

I buy TRD filters. Haven’t seen mobile 1 on the shelf but I have looked. I get the TRD for $12 form Toyota of cool springs. It gives me a chance to buy other BS I shouldn’t buy haha.
I only drive about 6k a year so I don’t mind spending the extra $. No thanks on Fram. I do use them on my wife’s Scion sometimes, I just get the best one they offer. I try to find M1 if the have it.[/QUOTE]

Can anyone confirm the model # for fumoto drain valve for 2016 tundra 5.7l?
Have to shop on Amazon.ca (canadian things ), and it will not spec out if compqtible with my vehicle or not

Also read that the short nipple is a better purchase since the nipple hangs dangerously low. True or false?

Look on the Fumoto website it shows you all the options for your year, make, model, engine size, I have a lift and I have the one with the nipple and it's covered by the thick skid plate

Short nipple is fine. F-103N. Get the drain hose for the filter and you can cut off some of th he hose to use on the Fumoto

s-l300.jpg This! I use this for my Tundra,, wife's Sienna, jet ski, zero turn, etc. Extremely easy and nothing left but mere drips from the pan. Also, very easy to pour oil into recycle jugs.On the truck I installed the fumoto. When released some remaining drips come out but that's it. The filter though, that's a different story. I like the idea of the fitting and hose for that. Who ever recommended greasing the zerks too...good call. I need to work that in.

Funny, not much mention of the non TRD skid plate. That thing sucks for oil changes. Looking into an RCI or Pro plate with built in access to the filter.

Amsoil signature series 0-20 with amsoil filter. I just bought a dealer membership since my buddies all wanted amsoil. So that’s how I get amsoil. Otherwise ya hafta find someone who will sell it to ya or pay for the membership particle these on Toyota filter blows. It doesn’t trap much compared to other oem filters. I’d use a Napa gold before Toyota filter. But depends on how often you want to change the oil/filter too

Will this work on ATVs, lawnmowers etc? What size is yours, 9.5L? Any idea how much oil it cannot extract fully?

    Thanks

I use a similar one on everything I own that has a motor. On some engines it will leave a couple teaspoons behind but I just did the first change on my '19 with a 5.7l and I don't think more than 2 drops came out when I pulled the plug to install a Fumoto valve.

It looked fine. The oil was changed twice as often as the manual states..

Yes, anything with dipstick access. Makes all of mine oil changes extremely easy. There is a 9 5 liter out there. Mine is the 6.5 liter. No problems. As it nears the top, flip the valve, vacuuming stops and then disconnect the quick release. The pour spout is then used to empty it into the original containers. Reconnect and finish pumping...another minute or so and it's done.
