can someone tell me what the factory set frequency is for the oil change reminder light? I am about to change the oil for the first time since I bought it. It's been almost 5k miles. (Dealer changed it before I bought it used). With synthetic oil change intervals at 10k, if I change it every 5k and there is no light, do I still need to go through the re-set process? The reason I am asking is my wife's vehicles (Highlander) also gets synthetic but the light comes on ever 5k for some reason.

Thanks Prostar 190. I guess I'll need to just reset it later when it comes on even if I've already changed the oil by then.

Lol. No beard for me. The wife hates them. Greybeard in my case is merely a symbolism that comes from work meaning I'm one of the older ones in the office. On a side note...when I do go without shaving for a few days, it is grey mostly.

Did my oil change Over the weekend. Pretty straight forward after I figured out what the little plastic spout was for that came with the filter. Had to order an air filter. What's up with that? It's a 2014 for pete's sake. None of the regular auto parts stores carried one.

FFVs are 5k others are 10k. Buy the hose for filter. I used the plastic nipple on my first one and got oil all over my arm and hand.

Is your 5k vs 10k for the reminder light or oil change interval? Oh and good idea on the hose.

Unfortunately, I'm one of the younger guys in my profession. It's very difficult to be able to find young people that want or can shift and drive big truck anymore. I would say that the average age is 65.

    Oh boy. Here we go.

Without going into all of the warranty mitigation details AND politics of it, if you use the full synthetic 0W20 motor oil, then the change interval can be 10,000 miles for EITHER 5.7L engine.

The 5,000 mile idiot light is there to absolutely annoy you. Let us know how well it's working.

My original question was about the light not the oil change frequency. I use synthetic and change at 10k in all my vehicles. I just wanted to know how often the light comes on. That's all. Didn't mean to annoy anyone. Sorry.

It’s 5k. I just reset mine. When it comes on next I’ll know it’s actually time to change the oil.

2000-2017 Toyota Tundra Maintenance Light Reset:
    1. Next, turn the ignition “off”
    2. Press and hold the Trip Odometer Reset button, and turn the ignition switch to the “On” position. ...
    3. Continue to hold down the Trip Odometer Reset button until “000000” MILES appears on the display and the maintenance light turns off.

Mine is a FFV and comes on at 5. I just figured since manual says 10k for non-ffv then they would come on at 10k but I don't know.
