I wouldn't touch it, 6" lift that is. Just my opinion. Tundra looks great

I am not an expert on lifts, but know a little. Had a buddy that worked for 4x4 off-road place and just alot more going on with a 6", some chopping or cutting. Ride quality? I would go no more than 4". What lift do you have on it now

As with anything, the most information you can give will help us help you. Pictures and/or detailed descriptions of where you are rubbing is the key. So with a 9" wide wheel with 0 offset, that means you have a 5" backspacing. Which (IMO) is about 3/4 of an inch too little backspacing for a tundra with 35's. Screw the 6" lift, the truck will look like you skipped leg day with 35's. Not to mention they all ride like shit.

    Questions:
    1. So what is this $150 "mod" you are referring to? Cab mount chop?
    2. Where on the body are you rubbing? If you're rubbing the front plastics, just unbolt the lower plastic off the lower splash guards. If you're rubbing the rear, remove the mud flap and do a cab mount chop.
EDIT: NM on the front plastics. Just saw you have an aftermarket bumper and no mudflaps. My money is on cab mount chop.
    3. Which A arm are you rubbing, upper or lower, and where?

For comparison's sake, here's my truck with 35x12.50x18's with a 5.71" backspacing (+18mm offset on a 9" wide wheel). I have ZERO rubbing anywhere, even full stuff/compression, not just cruising around at the mall. I removed the lower plastics off the front of the wheel well splash guards, did a cab mount chop on the rear wheel well, and trimmed about 1/2" off the factory skid plate.

I have a set of 20" fuel rims and 33X 12.50 on them. I have also had them balanced 3 times and the truck shakes like crazy around 50 MPH. I also installed a level kit. When I put the original rims and tires back on the truck rides beautiful. Any suggestions?

It is an M1 SmittyBilt bumper. Looks great just the lights are absolute crap they have given out a couple of times now. trying to find an adequate replacement for them.

    1. So what is this $150 "mod" you are referring to? Cab mount chop? yes the cab mount.
My money is on cab mount chop. your edit is correct i do not have any rubbing whatsoever on the front. the rear is the issue. it was rubbing against the plastic. I handled that, the other issue is the lower mount almost exactly where your last picture shows.
    3. Which A arm are you rubbing, upper or lower, and where? Lower
Hope this makes sense. by your comparison and your comments i can tell you know where more about this then I do Think i will go for the mod and maybe just some coilovers or a decent level kit. or do you think if i put spacers on there then the lift would look ok?

Definitely do a cab mount chop. Money well spent. In addition, you can get additional clearance with a proper alignment. I pushed my caster out to 4* which moves the wheels farther forward.
Your avatar says you already have a 3" lift? Don't stack lifts. But if you do, please take video.
Regardless of whether you get aftermarket coilovers, coil spacers, preload spacers, etc. (not including drop bracket lifts), the geometry of the UCA/LCA do not change. Which means no matter which one of those types of lifts, you'll still be rubbing in the same spot.
Also, I'm having a hard time picturing where in the hell you could possibly be rubbing the LCA. Got a picture?

To be honest when i setup my profile i wrote 3 " lift because that is what was on the sticker price breakdown. But now thinking about it and looking at the truck i think it is just a basic level kit with a block upfront. (again showing my ignorance) the chop is going to happen regardless now. I just want a little higher stance without loosing to much in look or ride that's where my indecision comes in with the lift choices. Going to take some pictures now of the rubbing and post soon.

    Jason,

I'm going to be installing a similar tire/wheel setup as you've described but with a +20 offset on the toytec boss kit. My plan is to install the lift at a buddy's garage and then go to Discount Tire for the tire/wheel install afterwards. Will I be able to drive this back to my friends to do the cab mount chop without major rubbing or does it need to be done first before DT?

    Thanks in advance!

You'll be fine. I drove around for a couple weeks before doing the CMC. You will probably have to pull the front mudflap and the lower front plastics though. Easy to do before you go to the tire shop. I removed mine in Discount Tire's parking lot :anonymous:

I have a little rubbing on the plastic which i can easily take care of. but you will see where the black is that is where the tire is rubbing the dirt off..

Yeah that's just the cab mount. Easy fix with CMC.
I was curious about the rubbing on the LCA.

LOL. Yeah that's a cab mount. LCA=lower control arm.
Get a CMC (cab mount chop) and you'll be fine.

You can have them switched to new wheels, if that's what you mean. That's what you SHOULD do at least if changing wheels

hey, i'm wondering about Dick Cepek 18x9 (5"BS / 0 offset) wheels on a 2003 tundra with close to 3" front lift & close to 2" rear lift (toytec ultimate lift kit) -- Will the 18" wheel work (haven't seen many 1st gen tundras the 18s)? i'm thinking 285/65r18 or 305/60r18? anyone know...
