Where the heck are you that it reaches -59*F. And if it’s that cold I’m not going anywhere!

Northern Alberta hits that a few times every winter. When it's that cold, pretty much all we do is hunker down with a blanket, a fire and a movie.

I am in Shuswap region of BC and we hit -30 Celsius usually once a year. Hide inside, watch TV and pray your furnace staying operating

Anyone figure out the OEM part number(s) for the 3rd Gen Tundra block heater in Canada? I'm finally getting my new 2023 at the end of the month, and it seems like the dealer wants a lot to install one (~$500); which seems steep considering I just installed a aftermarket one in my 4runner for about $50. I might just buy another 4runner one and see if it fits.

I thought about buying one from Kat's for the Lexus version of the engine. They should fit....Right?

If it fits in a block heater hole ( frost plug out, block heater in ) you are golden. All it does is heat the water/antifreeze in the block

Ya boy! I can’t find the hole. Would you be able to provide a more detailed description where the hole in the block is exactly?

The hole in the block? Are you looking where it gets inserted? Like this hole.

which tundra do you have? Toyota’s website allowed you to add the comfort plus to the sr5 model, and nothing else.

im asking because my dealer said they could add the trickle charger, Bluetooth, and cabin warmer to the factory block heater. When the truck arrived (sr5 offroad) they told me they couldn’t “because of the bumper”.

kinda disappointed, but also trying to figure out why I can’t? I suspect they just didn’t,want to do it.

Yes the hole for the element. If that’s the hole for the heating element in the photo then yes.
What parts is it next to or close to Thanks man

The sun isn’t up here yet so I’ll have to wait till after work and I'll take more pics, it’s right in the front of the block but it’s very tight and tucked in.

Same. Wanted the comfort for my platinum hybrid. I'm in Northern Canada where it get -50, and the comfort+ would be amazing. Called multiple dealers. The bumper reason makes no sense, as It appears to be the same plug as the standard "premium" block heater.

I’ve emailed Defa (company that makes comfort+) and they said absolutely I can instal,in any Toyota so long as it has the Defa block heater (which they all do if they have the little flip plug in thingie).

very disappointed in my selling dealer. For some reason they want to sell all kinds of warranty, rustproofing, paint protection, etc. but they don’t want to sell a comfort+ package or oil changes, lol.

    strange times

Back a long time ago I used a inline heater(heater hose) and I worked great for my chev sprint 3 cyl 2 barrel! :anonymous:

But man when it snowed that thing was nice and toasty inside and the windshield was always clear. Just spliced into the heater hose. Nowadays everything is electric/mechanical so that prob wouldn't work anymore.
    Hope you find that kit!

Drive side of the motor below the rad hose and above the belt, it’s about a half inch hole that is very hard to see. In the pics you’ll see the cord going down and the element going into the block I hope.

Wow, thanks a lot for the detailed pics. I’ve been driving around checking out every tundras front bumper to see if they have the heater plug so I can ask if they’ll let me look under there hood lol. Driver side explains the long element cord. The $300 Toyota wanted to charge me to install is going straight toward some tiger tough seat covers. My seats and I thank you.

When it comes to defa, it doesn’t seem like a hard thing to install. The only thing I wonder is if I can use the fuse post as a trickle.

the oem block heater will plug into their module. Then the cabin heater, Bluetooth controller, and trickle charger can plug into there.

Has anyone seen a cylindrical chamber in the new Tundra block for the OEM post type heater the Tacoma uses? I’m gonna have to go hunting with a mirror and a light.

I was thinking about having the block heater installed in my 2023 Platinum, but I couldn't get a straight answer on what the heater looked like. I had a 2019 Tacoma Sport with the cylinder/cartridge type block heater, and to be honest I never felt it function to be worth what it cost. I had the dealer take a look to be certain it was functioning, and it was, but it didn't seem to do anything for warm up times. Their comment was that it wasn't intended to bring the temps up for a quicker defrost, but it didn't seem to do anything at all. Looking for something aftermarket now. Any suggestions from anyone?

The block heater is an element that slides into the block and heats it up so the battery doesn’t have to work so hard to turn it over in the cold, it will warm up faster than a cold start.

Thanks for sharing that. What was the total parts cost of the kit? Mostly curious if after a full night of it being plugged in, in the morning what engine temp do you see if any above Cold? One I had ages ago in a diesel engine gave me luke warm heater air instantly after being plugged in all night. Thanks again for your info

$255 Canadian for the kit. Dealer told me it was there cost price. It’s all I could squeeze outa them when purchasing the truck.
Just got it installed so not sure about startups, winter is over here now and it was a mild one sorry . Did some research and was going to put it on a block heater timer as it takes 3-4 hours to heat up to max temp apparently. Running it any long is just a waste of electricity in my southern Ontario climate and I’m a cheapo.
