Been trying to find out more info on this "Premium Block Heater" that Toyota sells, but can't seem to find any P/N or any info, has anyone looked into this?

Im sure if you call a dealer they can get you info and part #. Not many different manufactures of block heaters, extremely simple things. Beware my dad bought a block heater for his Cummins pick from a dodge dealer , I installed it for him , the parts alone were around 380. They were exactly the same as the parts I stock for my fleet that cost about 40 bucks.

For what it’s worth, they are mandatory in Manitoba. One must be included with every make and model of new vehicles sold here.

Someone please show me a picture of a palm tree…

Do we know if it's a dry unit, or in the cooling system?

Dry would sure make it simple to add after the fact once we figure out what it is...

I have always liked having one on my Cummins. Huge difference in the time it takes to have heat. I'd put one on the Tundra too for the same reason as soon as we ID it. I too got burned on the price of a replacement unit from Dodge when mine went out...

I believe that it's a Canada wide requirement. All new vehicles in Alberta come with block heaters.

If it's like the 4R I think it may be a dry unit, I'll give my dealer a call shortly to get the P/N.

    More to follow

It's not a requirement here in Ontario nor Québec... But I can see why AB and MB may have it mandatory, with the colder temps you guys get!

What do you want to know? Manitoba Tundras get the block heater installed mandatory. I added the 'comfort+' which amounts to a battery trickle charger and a 1200w cabin heater, programable via bluetooth app. its repackaged DEFA system with a Toyota branded app and p/n. Works fine for what it is, I appreciate the single 120v plug for it all which is main reason I did it. 1200w is not enough to warm up cabin, just enough to take the sting out at -20c and makes it easy to scrape the windows in the morning, ice just falls off the windows now. To be honest I'm wondering if dealer screwed up the comfort+ install and forget to re-hookup the block heater, I'm used to vehicles blowing warm air within a few minutes of driving when block heater has been plugged in, this Tundra, not so much. Haven't bothered to investigate yet. More worried about my heated steering wheel that stopped working

I stand corrected. That interesting, because it does get cold out east too.

Called the dealer, P/N for OEM Block Heater is: PK5A4-89J16 and cost $90 CAD. I'm unable to find said P/N online, so perhaps it's still very new that Toyota Parts sites don't have it listed.

How hard or easy is that block heater to install? It looks like a simple device...almost too simple :monocle:

Quoting myself here, so I called the other local dealer, and turns out the price I was given of $90 CAD was only for one part of the Block Heater system. The entire system is composed of 5 parts, for a total of $230 CAD.

Installed is approx $410 CAD and it is a requirement to drill in your bumper to install the plug.

It does in parts, but typically not as sustained cold as out west Tks to Great Lakes. I had one on my last veh, lived in central Ont, and in 10 yrs of ownership only used it twice. But go east toward Ottawa or north of Georgian bay & things change.

alas since The Centre of the Universe (Toronto) makes all our decisions for us, and since they dont need them in their underground parking garages…..;) clearly neither does Thunder Bay! Lol!

I had the dealer install it . Comes with a nice specialized plug that will safely release if you drive away forgetting to unplug it .

    Sure it does.

Don't trust or test the breakaway cord function.

I drove off with mine last year, it broke away from the other end first, and not the vehicle end. Unless it's a straight line pull, it won't work.

Still a great system, but the cord is proprietary and can't be purchased at Home Depot.

If the temperature outside is below -59° F, then I plug it in block heater. I apply dielectric grease to the terminals . Yeah wouldn’t want to become too confident in driving away while its plugged :)

Mind sharing pictures of your connection on the front bumper, from near and far away, I'm just hesitant on how it looks on the front bumper... don't really want the dealer drilling in my brand new bumper...

Here’s a pic of the outside of the block heater on the bumper then inside the bumper and then the hole in the block where you plug the element into. It’s extremely tight, big hands will be very hard to make it. The cord is all zip tied to other stuff throughout the engine bay and the disconnect has access in the wheel well for bumper removal after the fact. Good luck

Thanks a bunch, this is good info, and exactly what I was looking for! I'm wondering if the cable could be relocated elsewhere than on the bumper/drilled in the bumper?
Thanks for the pics, but seems like they didn't even install it at the proper location, it should have been directly underneath the foglight, similar to what @Yaboy posted.

and by the way nice truck, have the same truck coming in the next month, Platinum Hybrid in Supersonic Red! If you have more pics, post them up, can't wait to get mine! :D

I'm planning on drilling mine into the side spot on my N-Fab M-RDS, in that mesh side on the sides. Similar to how @2020Platinum did his relocation for his parking sensors in the same bumper, he had a video on his YT channel.

I'm pretty sure it would be pretty easy to relocate. I'm actually thinking if splitting mine and adding a plug in to the rear, so I can plug in when I back in, instead of running a long extension cord.

I didn't add existing pics as the ones above show it perfectly.

You could defiantly put it somewhere else and not drill through the bumper. You could leave it loose inside the bump and just pull it out when you need it. On my Tacoma and 4Runner and Hondas I’ve used a battery blanket as well with a 3 way plug to plug them both in. Different setup with each vehicle but it’s fine to leave the plug in the bumper and the newer Toyotas have their own cord for the block heater.

PNG image.jpg Not required in British Columbia. Although I am getting it installed this week.

@TundraWorkHorse thanks for posting this photo. I am planning on getting the covert bumper and the placement on your Tundra would be a problem. I will be sure to let the dealership know where to place the plug (shown below per Toyota.ca).

Theres no ‘wrong’ location but the dealer OEM install is stated to be there but its not a rule . Its a good location . I like it

here the online location that shows it which is pretty much where mine is
