I agree, their cuts are garbage and they cut too deep. I would give them one chance to make it right then dispute the charges.

I'm trying to find a photo of the small trim/grind I needed on my '07.

How much lift were you getting with this setup? I'm starting to wonder if people are notching these due to lifting too much in a cheap way, causing the lower control arm to stay "pushed down" more.

Just because they don't now, doesn't mean they didn't use to. I installed in ~2010, Camburg SAW extended coilovers and Ball joint UCAs. Some trucks need a small notch to allow the coilover to not bind at full droop.

Update owner called and told me to bring the truck up there. Headed that way now I'll let everyone know how it goes

There's no way that adding any kind of a notch in the frame or suspension of any vehicle is safe without minimally, wielding or reinforcing the area. I've seen all kinds of cuts and "piece together" suspension for mall crawlers. Anything made or designed for offroad use would be reinforced.

There is NO NEED to do that. Craziness defined. I have the exact same coilovers. Not exactly cheap at all. The same price point as my OME's I had on my 07. They come preset at 3". Mine are set at 2.75". Plenty of clearance with the LCA at full droop. I have Zone UCA's but those are for a good alignment like the SPC's of course. Pic vvv20210519_153958.jpg

Simple 5 minute check and here is the install instructions that even a monkey can follow.... from Fat Bob for this specific coilover on a tundra......**NO CUTTING**

Literally zero information for needing to "notch" the LCA. This is definitely from adjusting it with too much preload (more lift) or not getting an alignment done right away.

So they said it's necessary so that the coilovers wouldn't rub or squeak. They offered to clean it up a bit with some weld but that's it. No refund. Or replacement.

 Fat Bob's will even tell you to not adjust them higher than 3". I went with 2.75" only because my 07 OME's settled in at 2.75" and I liked that in combo with my shackles set at 1.5" to maintain rake.

It's your truck and you can take this as far as you wish, I provided the install instructions from Fat Bob and there is no need to "clearance" the LCA..... anyone that says otherwise either adjusted them out of specs.....OR they didn't double check the measurement before putting them on when they were new.

They are fine at 3". Not sure why the LCA's were notched.

Guess I'll try to dispute the charges and replace the LCA on my own. Hard to trust anyone now.

You're saying preset and I'm saying that brand new, out of the box they might have been adjusted too high as well. Bottom line is there shouldn't be any hacking up of your truck for this upgrade..... other mods yes... but not this one. It's not even my truck, but this makes me sick.

They should have told you. I got the same instructions with my coilovers that @TXTundra2722 just posted.

Ended up arguing with the guy and they gave me money back. That still doesn't fix my problem though.

Yep, just because they come preset at 3" doesn't mean you assume that. You don't truly know until they are on and alignment done. You then take the spanners and adjust accordingly. In my case it was fairly straightforward. I watched the installer do the adjustments until we were both satisfied. It helps to have someone who knows how to do it correctly. Ha!

For future reference for this issue, can you take a pic again of the coilovers, this time showing the threaded area of the shocks....... if you have a tape measure it would be nice too. This might save someone else in the future from this.

OP that looks terrible, at least you got your money back. Had to notch for Fox 2.5”, both extended and non-extended. But it’s because the stem is much larger, and offset to the rear. More like making the existing notch wider, but did have to go tiny bit deeper with the extended travel. ADF71CD5-F0C4-408E-B6C1-A873ECC94B71.jpg

They'd be paying me for their replacement. He got off cheap if all he did was return your money for labor.

That makes total sense. The 2.5's are beefier all around of course and sometimes you have to allow for that. Especially for you folks that get air time out in the desert....

Honestly its not terrible, you'll want another alignment scheduled after you finish. If you look at the coilover install instructions you're about 85-90% there with removing the LCA.

@Vizsla might still have his used and notched LCA if he hasn't already tossed or sold it. You've been LT for about 2-3 years now right?
