Obviously you hit a nerve with the MPG question. A lot of the guys secretly dislike the low mpg I guess ;-)

In all seriousness, welcome to the forum. Hope you stick around long enough to find that it is a great group of people who all rag on each other regularly, but also offer up great advice when needed, like what you found when someone pointed out the flex-fuel sensor being jacked up. Personally, I have been given great advice on several questions, and have had a great time reading the snarky comments as well. Long live the love and sarcasm

You know it's kind of nice to join this form until you commented. Look at my miles per gallon PICTURES below. I like the truck I'm trying to fix it. if it's not fixable I'll junk it. But I HAVE owned several BPU Supras and I expect more from you Toyota as far as engineering. I do not believe there's not something wrong with the truck all I'm trying to do is find the answer because the dealers are not very smart. I've always found the best place to get answers is from the people that own them. And the above quote about a Prius is absurd. I own a 600 horsepower Mercedes that gets 19 miles per gallon. It doesn't have to be a Prius to be tuned properly. You can put the Toyota flag down. I'm just asking questions.

Yeah, that definitely is SNAFU for Tundra MPG. I would get that sensor checked ASAP

Trade it in if you dont like it.........trucks are not suppose to be gas savers buy a hybrid in that case......I've owned my 2008 Tundra for 10 yrs now and now that I have 295 70 18 Nitto Ridge grapplers I still avg day to day driving 14 to 15 mpg but on long trips I can do about 19 at most......I have always used shell or Chevron fuel and just recently started to add 10 percent of E85 to every fuel up mixed with shell or Chevron.....a real test to your issue would be to reset your trip and take a 100 mile trip come back to same exact fuel station that you fueled up at before the 100 mile trip and see how many gallons it takes and dived by the mileage

As inaccurate as the computer is that is still way off! I could understand people telling you quit squawking about the gas mileage if you were on par with the rest of us. But you’re not. Something is definitely wrong. Especially if you’re getting similar numbers when you hand calculated.

Good God you guys are pretty testy about Toyotas. I was asking a question I've only had it for 3 weeks. Trust me if I do not fix this issue it is gone. I'm at least giving it a chance.

My wife's avalon said gives 19.9 but all she drives is in town but when we take it on trips we avg 34 to 38 and I am amazed so the avg of 19.9 is more of the daily driving g she does

Yes I recalibrated it, because it's actually possible which is almost impossible on the Toyota. Yes I calculated for tires and I calculated it by hand. I don't trust computers. Just FYI the bigger tire you the worst your figures for miles per gallon.

I would agree to traded in. But what the whole conversation really is about, is it’s not on par even with the typical shitty gas mileage that the majority of us get. I know a lot of people complain about the gas mileage, but at a certain point if it’s bad enough there must be something else wrong other than being a crybaby. I’ve come to accept that my truck gets crap mileage ( I knew it going in) but if it dipped that usually low I would definitely look into it and not accept it.

Okay how about this. thanks everybody for the input it was nice having all of the comments even the shity ones. I have been messaged by a few people I do have a problem with the truck I'm going to have it addressed. Does anybody know what the reading on the fuel content sensor should be if it's reading ethanol and if it's reading regular fuel does anybody have those figures I've got a computer that will dig that deep but I don't know what the proper reading is

Thank you yes I'm not trying to. Complain. I own lots of cars and toys. skid steers, dozers and things that just drink fuel. It's not the cost that bothers me it's the fact that I just truly believe something's not right. This truck is not big enough heavy enough and has enough power to drink that much fuel for any good reason. Just trying to get the bottom of it.

If this thing got 12 miles a gallon around town which I'm a pretty slow driver, and got maybe 13 and a half on the highway and got maybe 9 Towing 5000 lb I think that's about where it should be it's not even close. I think I know which way I need to head and hopefully I can fix it I really like the truck

I could imagine drinking that much fuel and not getting the energy from it must be washing out the cylinders eventually. Can’t be good for in the long run.

I think you really need to stick around. You have been taking the heat rounds pretty well. I dont have a clue as to what your fuel issue is.

I would take it to your trusted shop if you have one and have the fuel system diagnosed. Like it has already been stated, something is not happy.

Well, here's my last fill-up. calculates at 17.6 MPG. Second pic is of the gas pump. Didn't have much left in a 26.4 gal tank. LOL20181007_084256.jpg 20181007_084936.jpg
Now this was about half highway, two trips to and some time in San Antonio and several trips to my small local town. Speed limit on I-10 is 75, but I'm not in any hurry. I just putt along this time at 60. Cruise on, tow/haul holds the speed better on the hills in cruise. Fairly hilly on all my drives.

I'm all stock and get around 19 MPG on the State Roads around here - driving 55 - 65 MPH with no stop and go and mostly flat thru the valleys. I get around 17+ MGP on the Interstate if I keep it under 75 MPH..

It certainly sounds like something you will be able correct. It could be something simple like a dirty MAF or bad sensor of some sort.

    No mystery here.
Stock, my 5.7 averages 17.1 mpg. I try not to go over 75 mph.
    The key phrase is STOCK.
I'd love to be in a position to add huge tires and jack it up, looks cool.
But as we all know with these mods, there is going to be a cost to pay and not just fuel charges.
When I change over my summer to winter tires on my 2012 Honda CRV, I will immediately lose 5-8 mpg.

Wait, you're upset about the gas mileage suffering because you're pulling 8000 pounds? Or am I misunderstanding you?

check his pictures, he is getting 2-4 mpg. The rest of us are getting 8-10 doing the same thing. Something is fishy

ToyTec BOSS Lift, FRAC, 18" Fuel Pump wheels, Nitto Ridge Grapplers
I have 295/70/18 tires with a 3/1 leveling lift on a 2014....I average about 12mpg when I'm not a lead foot (14ish mpg on the highway which doesn't happen much). If I'm constantly speeding I get about 10-11mpg....

Pre wheels, tires, lift....I averaged 15-16mpg...

I lived MN and I typically get 17-19 highway. It’s not as bad as others say in my own opinion but that’s just my me. However the most I’ve seen with mine is 20mpg all stock ofc.
