Okay I did the best searching I could on this forum for this.
I found a few leads and contacted a few people. I thought I would post. I just traded a Hummer H2 with a much bigger motor for a 2011 Tundra with only 32000 miles on it. I never thought I would say that a Tundra is a gas hog compared to the Hummer. Well it is and there's no reason. The truck is more aerodynamic and it's a few thousand pounds lighter, not all wheel drive, much smaller tires etc etc.

Okay it is a flex-fuel truck and I have 35 inch tires but there nothing super wide. When I run this truck on regular gas with a uncorrected odometer which I think is about a mile per gallon off. I am averaging 10.4 miles per gallon on gasoline. I just did a test and ran two tanks of E85 through it and I'm only dropping to 9.4 miles per gallon. I believe it takes 1.8 more fuel in ethanol than it does in gas so the math doesn't add up. I have no starting problems no smoke no issues with it running. It does run better and has more power on ethanol for sure.

I think this truck thinks it has crap gas in it all the time. Vivid racing will tune it for 600 bucks but I was wondering if there's an aftermarket programmer or something else that I can use to get this ethanol programming out.

    Thank you.

Stock I get about 15. Add in bigger heavier tires, it will drop a couple mpg, take into effect that your speedometer is off and you can add another mile or two and you probably aren't too far off.

I too came from an H2 and mileage is far better in the Tundra. Averaging 19 in the Tundra and was averaging 13 in the H2.
She was fun to drive but just not practical...

Even with the tires it's still way off. This truck should be getting at least 12 or 13 miles a gallon not 10.4. Speedometer correction it might be really like 11.2. Even on the highway it can't muster better than 11 something's wrong period or Toyota makes a horrible truck.

Thank you for all the welcomes. Are you guys serious. I almost laughed out loud. My 8800 pound brick is going to get better gas mileage than this new technology Toyota truck. I had 40 inch tires on my Hummer also. I guess I'm going to try to tune it and see what happens.

Once you factor in a 6" lift, 35", speedo error there will be mpg loss. With my setup I'm at 10.8 now average city and quite happy at 5280 ft.

No way anybody is getting 19mog unless 100% stock and all freeway miles on completely flat land.

I was averaging about 14.5mpg before lift and 35’s. Now I’m at about 13.5. It’s shit but I knew that going in. I think I can squeeze out about 16mpg on the highway if I focus on it

I did. Going from the stock tires to 35 is about 1.4 tenths which is about 1 mile a gallon. The lift isn't going to change much. I'm looking at physics. The Hummer is Square it weighs almost 3,000 pounds more it has less gears it was geared lower. There is no reason physically this truck would not get 12 to 13.

I look back in highschool I had a 1986 Ford F-150 with a 351 in it in 35 inch tires It got 12.5. There is no reason this truck is getting 10. 4 miles per gallon. Something is wrong. I just sold a 2015 Z71 5.3 7 inch lift 38 inch tires and it was getting about 13.5 on the highway and about 14 around town. This truck cannot break 11 miles per gallon on the highway or in town. Something's wrong I was just wondering if anybody else had a flex-fuel truck with the same issues. I put about 8,000 lb behind it the other day and it was getting down to four miles per gallon. I'm just trying to become a Toyota fan before I dump this truck. My Z71 never got worse than 9.5 loaded to the hilt. I'm hoping something's wrong. I like the truck it's a good-looking truck.

I can get 16+ on the highway on pure dino gas. Maybe try a Bully Dog tuner from DirtyDeeds.

OP, I think it’s those wheels. They’re ugly as hell probably eating up about 3mpg alone.

How many miles have you tested for mpg? If you get straight on the highway and drive 20-30 miles you’re only getting 10-11? That does seem a little low. Should be around 13-15 imo

I drive like a grandma. I try and keep my rpm’s at or below 2k all the time. Keep in mind that I am stock as well. No lift or leveling kit yet and my driving is 95% highway.

This makes sense. I could never do that. I press Tow Haul about 50% of the time I drive and try not to look at the mpg calculator. Congrats to you though

It’s absolutely possible there are several of us here getting it. Again mostly highway, stock and I try to never get above 2K rpms.

Yeah I've seen other members here who have reached 19 with stock rig and a steady pedal.

You're going to have to learn to live with it. Also please don't use the E85 crap in it just because it can. I've got LT 275/70/18 load E on mine and I average 12 around town and 16 on the highway. Stock tires I could do 18-19 highway and about 14-15 in town.

I can see reaching 19, but averaging?! That means for the times they don't have a steady pedal and are getting less than 19, they're countering it with more than 19 at other times. I'm not saying it's impossible, just very hard to believe.

I thought I’ve read something about flex fuel computers getting out of whack when switching between the fuels. I think you should be able to do a little better than what you’re getting. By the looks of the truck I would figure 9 to 10 mpg around town and 12 to 14 mpg on the highway. Depending on your foot.
