Yes. But I had that option turned off because it causes problems in the long run in that truck will still get about 19.2 on the highway. Multi cylinder displacement will never work. Until they figure out how to unhook the crankshaft

I say take it back to the dealer and pay the hundred dollars to get them to reflash your computer and whatever else they were going to do. See if that helps then go get a tune. I use the BDX bully dog. Never really helped much in the mpg‘s, maybe 1 mpg. You can also look up DAP tune and he can send you a remote tune, which I hear is pretty nice.

GM wasn't required to post MPG due to the Bummers GVWR, did you have the speedo recalibrated after adding 40's? Also do you go by what the dash tells you or do you hand calculate MPG at every fillup?

Well theoretically the tune should work. This truck is supposed to have a sensor that detect alcohol content. The flex-fuel truck has a 3-speed fuel pump where if you have a regular Toyota it has a single speed. When it detects ethanol it starts shoving in a bunch more fuel and of course it can really increase the timing curve. It can actually make more horsepower on ethanol then it can gasoline. Now when it detects good gas it's supposed to back everything back down. But I think it's not backing it down enough. I was hoping through Bully Dog you could force this thing into 91 octane mode and it has to be running a Fuel Curve for good fuel. Trinity tuning and Arizona said their programming will do this very thing.

There was a programming glitch in these trucks several years ago and they would not start and run right on gasoline because they thought they had ethanol in them this truck runs just fine it's just drinking too much fuel. And my main point was there should be a four to five mile per gallon difference between ethanol and gasoline. This truck is only getting about 1 mile per gallon difference. Something's wrong on one side of the other. It's. Simple math, as far As btu and Fuel consumption . If you have a flex-fuel car that gets 12 miles per gallon on gas. It should get about eight on ethanol. I only have a one mile per gallon difference.

And I apologize I've been saying Trinity tuning.

Vivid racing out of Arizona is the one that does tunes for these trucks. He told me I should go from about 11 to close to 14. I don't know if I believe that.

Welcome! My dash shows the same around 10.4mpg mostly city, corrected would be over 11. I was 14mpg before getting luggier 34" and heavier wheels.

People who are bone stock and commute hwy all the time will get higher. You have 35", also heavier wheels, and a topper. While you can get a bit better mileage out of the big 3 at the expense of reliability, we're all driving big heavy boxes. Put the same on theirs and they'll take a hit too.

I bought a Tundra knowing I would get shitty mileage, but it'll haul and it'll tow our TT, practical. If we drive any significant distance, we use our other vehicle, that's just the way it is.

If expectations of close to EPA were high on your list, you're not going to be happy. My list was many other things and I love my truck. That's just psychology.

I am completely stock. If I do 70mph on flat land I can get 19-20 mpg. However, who ever drives like that?! I typically average 14.8-15.5 depending on how much highway driving I do that week.

I understand. I guess I’m just skeptical and would prefer my truck ran right before I tuned it. Sounds like you know what you’re talking about. Maybe I’m thinking more for the future. If you ever want to put the stock tune back in, it will be shit again. It would be nice to know that you could go back and it would be OK.

Lol, agree. Nice truck Paul, we all have our own tastes. This site is by far one of the more cordial Tundra sites except for the odd hot poker here.

Ok. I have 3” lift. And 295/70/18 that measure 34.5x12. and a ladder rack (wind resistance). I get 12.5-14.5. That is me driving kind of heavy on pedal staying 5mph above speed limit. Now I can get 15-18 mpg if I stay below 2000 rpms. Which I can’t do for more than 5 minutes bc it hurts my soul. When it was stock I never got better than 16

You hit the one thing I have learned since buying back in march, to get good mileage on the Tundra, you have to keep it under 2k rpms at all times. the truck will shift to 6th as low as 44 mph. When I do that my mileage sky rockets, but it hurts my soul to drive that slow too
    :burnrubber:

Also, OP, I am willing to bet the truck has stock gearing. A lot of the guys who lift re-gear to 4.88s and their mileage increases with that change.

    Not many yet, mostly stock.
    @ Pholt,
As soon as I put on my bigger aftermarket tires and wheels I lost a few MPG, but I like to look of them. Everyone Ive seen post about this says something similar.
Welcome to the site with all the info you'll ever need....hopefully... 12.9 MPG each day...

Kind of, I got maybe .5 - .75 mpg better. I might be able to squeeze more. It just feels too good pressing down on the skinny peddle. I am sitting around 15.1 and 15.4 mpg.
    Edit after regearing to 4.88s

I went for a lightweight tire/wheel setup and able to get 15mpg driving at very fast highway speeds mixed with normal city. In terms of suspension, I don’t understand why more people don’t do a low center of gravity, long travel set up. It’s the suspension travel that counts, not how high up in the air you are.

An ecoboost or some other high tech low quality truck might get 18 but who cares! I’m thrilled with 15 in a vehicle built like a tank that will still drive well with 100k miles.

Of you get 9.4 on e85, you should get around 12-13mpg on e10. I would check your alcohol sensor, it is not reading the percentage correctly and not pulling the fuel injector pulse width and timing like it is supposed to on e10 or e0. Or considering the price difference of e85, i would just run e85 exclusively and be happy with 9.4mpg.

I'm getting mixed, 17.5 MPG, according to my onboard computer. I'd have to stand on the gas to get it down to 10.

    Nice truck... welcome from AZ.

Lift looks front end high. Front an inch higher than the rear? (If it is, this could be causing messed up aerodynamics) just spitballing here.

    Welcome, I think.

    Truck = bad gas mileage
    Prius = good gas mileage
    The choice is obvious.

Stop complaining and enjoy the truck.

    Or

Buy another Bummer and complain on their forum....

Sorry, just not a reason to be a hater of the truck if you don't like what the computer is telling you you're getting for mpg.

We all love our Tundras, and whatever gas mpg we get is just fine by us. 10-19mpg is the range, you're at the bottom, oh well.

Wow there's always a few like you. I'm not complaining there's something wrong with the truck. I don't care about the fuel mileage except for the fact that something's wrong. I own small trucks big trucks I have one ton Duallys with 8,000 lb sitting on the bed getting better gas mileage than this. I have a 59000 pound motorhome that gets almost as good of gas mileage on a flat Road that's a problem . I was asking for any input which I found on this forum after much looking and it does have to do with the flex-fuel. another fellow member that has had the same problem and there is something wrong with the truck.. You might judge a little bit less and listen a little bit more and you might learn something. I have now found out from Toyota that the flex-fuel Tundra is built very much different from a regular Tundra and they were built side by side.

Don't know what your point is and calling a Hummer a bummer. I have owned hundreds of cars and I like them all and I can tell you that the Hummer was one of the best vehicles I ever owned.
