New to me 2001 4x4 5spd V6

I love PF, but sad he didn't use this, which I found to be at least twice as good as anything he used. I'm tempted to try those cerakote wipes he was using though.

I got the green door trim pieces

 

Sucks, I've been threatening to grab a set of the chrome nerf bars with all brackets and hardware, and that cap ... I reckon it's going to die, and AC caps are harder to find than DC.

I'm sure some of our northern folk would probably love to get hands on that rear axle assembly...

 

Grab the windshield and fuel tank for backups?

Hell, I need a driver's side rear vent window latch assembly too I snapped mine off fixing something that wasn't broke.

 

I wanna see if I can grab a set of transmission cooler set and work from there....
But here in Houston seems like nothing is available....

 

That's a big city. They've got to have tundras in the yards and no rust either

@Shifty' I've got a set of 4" chrome Raptor nerf bars I just took off my truck. I'll try to send you some better pics in the next day or so (suddenly very busy with work).

 

Today Chainsaw decided he wanted the doors swapped over. The old ones had a little rust on the bottom and the ones I picked up from the yard are like new so here we go




Now I just have to swap the green trim to the driver's door. (The driver's door and the passenger side rear door had no rust so I'm only swapping the driver's side rear and the passenger side front)

 

I officially think this thread may have just topped @N84434 's build thread (link) for the award of "most rust removed from a 1st gen"

 

He's basically going to have a "new" truck by the time he's done.

 

I'm just waiting to see this thing get vinyl-wrapped, trim shaved, something else wild

Wish I'd have known this, could have snagged one Saturday when I was at a few different yards here. I think you have that grey interior? You just need the piece that screws through the window glass or the whole thing? And does it matter if the POS plastic thing you were trying to fix is broken, i.e., you can just fix the junkyard one?

 

Interior color doesn't matter, I really just need the piece that bolts to the door, which is black. Let this serve as a warning to anyone out there whose latches are intact: Don't be me.

Ultimately, I'll probably hunt out a 2006 locally, and steal both passenger and driver's side. The OEM parts aren't that much (#s are here). I'm looking at about $75 to get both pass/driv side complete latch assemblies for new-OEM. I may just end up doing it.

Still pissed about that shit. But yeah, if anyone happened to pull a compatible assembly off a newer AC, I'd kick you a few bones and cover the ride. We haven't had any AC hit the nearby yards I frequent, they usually get snatched up by private/closed yards before landing at the larger public yards. I've got alerts setup on the public yards nearby that have decent technology. Even if I show up same-day, the trucks are often missing the bed, doors, seats, and a lot of the interior bits

 

I'm looking to swap the cab next. I found a junker on marketplace with a good cab i could swap...

 

The window and door latch seem to be the first thing to go. I looked at the ones here for you Shifty they were all gone

 

"Dead cylinder"

Last time someone came on here with a dead cylinder, it ended up being a stuck lifter. Sadly, they replaced the entire engine and found this out on the teardown. And the replacement engine was misfiring, sadly, I don't know they ever figured it out.

I wouldn't believe the cylinder is dead. It may have no compression, but ... I'm skeptical the engine is toast.

Honestly, with that amount of miles that's all the more reason I'd think this was a case of something being frozen in the drivetrain versus a larger problem.

Cab swap is adventurous. I can't tell you how much I hate the tedium of dealing with all the wiring harnesses, then trying to re-align body panels after the fact. What a PITFA!

Oh snap, I see the cab rot now. Yeah, I kinda get why you want to cab swap. Reminds me of what Noah was grappling with, but much worse.

One note for you - those door checks are worth a pretty penny if/when in good, serviceable shape. In case you stumble across any out in yards.

 

I was super happy that the electric windows and locks worked great. Everything is hooked up and rust free doors now.
