This is where the Toyota reliability is not advertised to the masses. Toyota does not care to advertise those facts, while Ford and others try to hammer it home (even though its reliable through the first year or initial ownership or whatever nonsense they're skewing the data with).

You should have seen the intake on my '06 6.0L when I pulled the intake to replace the EGR cooler. It took me half a day to clean the sludge out. That was '06 and the emission requirements have only got worse. A diesel engine with 30+ pounds of boost should not have an EGR if it is expected to last. Then you throw all the exhaust restrictions in and you are guaranteed trouble around the 100K mark and beyond.

You should only be buying a new diesel in the USA if you truly need the torque.

Yep. I was up on the North Slope in 2012. Just north of Kuparik, a CP site, at Milne Point, a BP site with an unescorted badge good for access anywhere on the NS. BP had a large fleet of Ford F-250's up "there". Prolly 30+ parked at Milne. Plugged in when not in use. Diesel will freeze pretty damn quick at - 70F. Although gas has a lower freeze point, 1/2 ton trucks were not practical at all. All the fracking and new drilling is done in the winter cold. Bug out before the access "road" rivers that thaw. Lots of contractors would use gas suv's and pickups to hit up Prudhoe to get mail and supplies. No alcohol allowed anywhere up there. Didn't need to plug in gas vehicles. But then again, there weren't too many.

My fishing partner drives a RAM eco diesel its a few years old but he says its the best truck he’s ever owned, and he’s owned a Tundra. Only real issue was a sensor at 75K, fixed quickly by the dealer. I’ll say I’ve driven his truck plenty and I do not like the throttle response whatsoever. It has some serious lag, almost a dead pedal at first, then the power comes on. I hate pulling his boat off the ramps because of the lag and pedal feel. He does get some dang good fuel mileage out of it though. Other than the single sensor issue his truck has held up very well.

Diesel, Turbo etc. are all terms for Hybrid in Toyota. Will get MPG and more power in the near future!

Yea I think with the smog junk I’d rather have the hybrid option. But not a dinky hybrid, instead have one built for serious torque like a v8 with two electric motors. Hybrid doesn’t have to mean ‘built for better gas mileage’

New gossip about the internal battle over a Tundra diesel. 11 min mark.

Might explain why Toyota USA released that diesel video a while back.
