I think Ford screwed up calling both of these completely different vehicles Bronco.

Only purists will be offended and purists are not the majority of buyers. It's the same thing as selling the mustang with anything less than a V8. Purists howl, and only buy the "pure" version, and average consumers buy whatever they can afford. The manufacturer gets the best of both worlds. It is smart marketing.

I just think it's a mistake due to exactly what happened in this thread, the Bronco Sport was mistaken for the Bronco.

their only mistake was not releasing both models simultaneously, but i believe covid delayed the regular model.

And if you can trick a bunch of guys with midlife crises into buying your electric crossover by calling it a Mustang, why not?

I was also shocked by the size. I was really expecting an F150 drivetrain and frame. All sources I read online stated that the Bronco shares the Ranger body on frame/drivetrain while the "Sport" shares the unibody Escape. I think they're pretty cool just a tad too small for my family. I really think it was a mistake not going big, the 4runner/Jeep market is a stronghold and they're up for a fight. I think the Bronco will be a failed venture by Ford

I completely agree with you. I've also already hashed this out in this thread. This sport model should have been called the Edge II or something. I've also realized that coming from Ford, this shouldn't come as a surprise. GM tends to release 4 vehicles that are internally identical and give each a different name. Then they can say 'x'% of their vehicles get great gas mileage. Ford on the other hand makes countless trim lines of the same name plate, then groups them together and says something like 'Ford bronco: the best selling new suv'. Its all manipulation of numbers. But yes. I don't agree with this decision by Ford either.

Yes, the Sport is small. I don't know why they are doing 2 sizes. The next one coming out soon (Just Bronco, not Bronco Sport) will be bigger.

The Wrangler is not a full size, though.

That's right. I meant to say Ford should have stayed out of the midrange market that the Jeep and 4runner dominate.

You're probably right but I think they want a piece of that market. In theory, if you want a full-size, they already have the Raptor and Expedition (though I doubt anyone in the real world would take an $80k Mom-mobile offroad).

The full bronco is going to absolutely be successful when it releases. Internet critics worried about name badge being diluted by *GASP* a womans car are completely irrelevant because they werent going to buy the damn thing in the first place.

The full Bronco will be incredibly competitive regardless of the Bronco Sport

I don't know if Ford price points this new Bronco well it's possible they will end up dominating that market.

Its my own disappointment I guess, I really wanted a 2 door Raptor, Hardtop kind of vehicle. But that would be more of a Raptor model than a new Bronco right?

I wish everyone would stop calling this a Bronco and call it by it's appropriate name. Ford Compass.

Yes, the original Bronco was small, and I think the idea was to build the new one as a retro based on the original Bronco. Only much later did they use the F150 as the basis, so yes, it could be any size and it would be retro accurate.

Exactly this^. With both the Bronco and the Mustang they are taking exciting names with strong Ford heritage and applying them to a broader range of vehicles. That way even their boring mainstream cars seem more appealing. No one would even be talking about the Bronco Sport if it didn’t have “Bronco” in the name, let’s just pretend it doesn’t exist. The real new Bronco looks real legit, wish you could get the V6 with the manual though.
