I've got a bunch more questions - thanks again for all the responses, I'll be sure to circle back and post photos when I actually start getting parts here.

Anyone know if there is a meaningful difference between AALs? Such as Icon vs. Deaver? I've seen a couple builds with AALs (Rickashay notably) and some with complete spring pack replacement. I know Tacomas are undersprung from the factory and Tundras are usually not, but I can't find much info on actual bed weights for the AALs. Deaver has a Tacoma Expedition set with 9/10/11+ springs where weights are listed, but none for Tundras.

For tires, I don't think I'll end up on true 34s. I'd rather trim than lift, and I'll stop at plastic and pinchweld flattening. I looked around more, seems like 4.7L Tundras drive fine without regearing, so not worried about gears being a limiter. I'll probably end up on something between a 32 and 33.5, like a 255/75 or 80 r17, 285/70r17 or the LT34x10.5r17s that BestGen is running.

Any wheel recommendations regarding width and backspacing? It seems like most everything in 17s is -12mm offset with 9" width except the SCS F5 which has the -35mm offset. I don't really know enough about choosing the right offset to clear stock UCAs and frame without sandblasting the side of the truck. I do plan to leave the stock fender flares on to prevent sandblasting, even though they look a little goofy (black rattle can?). Anyway, trying to get that locked down so I can have wheels and tires ordered this weekend along with the Icons.

Two more Qs before I go back to drywalling...

Just to make sure I'm not in over my head, at what point does it make sense to do spindle gussets or extra reinforcements? I don't think I want to go down that path, especially on accident.

Is anything else needed on a 1-2" lift that's not in the Icon Stage 2 Kit? Sounds like "no" to diff drop and "no" to the messing with the brake proportioning valve... but would be good to confirm.

For rear springs have you checked out OME? Their Dakar replacement springs should be perfect for what you want to do. I have them on the back of my 4Runner. Great springs. IMG_1170.jpg
As for rims, I picked up some factory 17" rims that came off of a FJCruiser. I don't know what the offset is but they fit perfect and keep everything tucked under the fender. IMG_1119.jpg

If I was regularly pounding my Tundra off road then yeah, I'd get spindle gussets. But I don't, so no.

Just went and double checked, they don't make them for first gen's. Bummer. But yes, exactly my application.

You may want to check Alcan for a custom spring pack. They're in Grand Junction.

Rock auto has replacement springs. Even a HD version.

wouldn't that be awesome if we could do that? would probably save a MPG or two as well.

I could be wrong(not the first nor last time), but I believe a member here has done it using all factory parts. I've seen that kit before. It's very pricey. You could probably get most of the parts from the salvage yard. Rockauto has hubs for a helluva lot cheaper than ORS. IMG_2572.jpg

If you aren't slamming through terrain with speed you can probably go without gussets.

Alcan makes full custom leafs, you tell them your vehicle, height desired, weight range and they do the rest.

You could also look into the expedition pack which I believe @toyotech2016 tested and runs. They sound like they are right up your alley.
