I've purchased locally, out of state and had it shipped, and I've flown across country to buy and driven it home. Work all the dealer's against themselves. They will negotiate if necessary. It's up to you to make it necessary for them to deal to get your business. Don't throw a fit, make an ass of your self in their dealership, or BS about the deal another dealer is offering. It's a simple business transaction. No emotions are needed. The only time I've been an ass was to a BMW dealer who wouldn't budge a dollar off their high sticker price. I purchased one out of state then the transporter couldn't fit down our driveway so we met at a Sam's club lot to unload. I chose that lot because it was across the street from the BMW dealer. As the semi truck full of BMWs was unloading mine I called the local BMW manager and said look out your window. He hung up on me.

I live in Orlando and bought my truck in Cincinnati. Nobody would cut me a break on a 4wd let alone a pro. There is so much construction around here and people are buying 4wd's to look cool and tow boats dealerships don't have to haggle much in fl. For 50$ I got a cheap flight they dealer picked me up at the airport and I drove it home. For 250$ I registered it here in fl. And saved about 2500$ in total. IMHO it was worth it, even just based on principal.

I wasn't restricting it to California but addressing the blanket comment about 99.9% of buyers. One state may be different because of its arguable laws but that's only one state.

Maybe I misunderstood and you were only referring to California buyers?

Yep - i just went through true car and got $2,474 off without any BS. Also i got the truck i wanted (minimal add on options, basically wheel locks only). Out the Door for $49.5K - It was at Greenville Toyota - they have another white one as well. The local dealer wanted $55K out the door after a bunch negotiation and was not interested in removing the stuff i didn't want (their steps). I'll drive an hour and half for 5k anyday.

I have had the same experience. I looked for a TRDP for over a year and most dealerships within a 150 mile radius quoted $5k-$10K above MSRP, which I wasn't willing to pay. Last year (2018) I started looking at used and was contemplating on a 2016 with apprx 21K miles on it for around 2016 MSRP from a private party in SoCal, when I found a 2017 with 9.5K miles out of state for lesser than that. Flew out and got it within 4 days and drove 9+ hours back home. Then the hassle of getting it registered in CA. However, saving that extra $2k-$2.5k after gas, flight ticket and 1 night's hotel stay was worth it. Most dealers in CA, NV & AZ know they will get enough buyers who will pay the premium. I know 2 folks who have the 2019 4runner TRDP (voodoo blue). 1 was looking at luxury SUV's, saw the 4runner, liked it and drove it off the lot for $60K+ taxes & fees. The other I coached, & he was willing to wait and got one delivered to him from out of state for $46K. $14K buys a lot of upgrades on a 4runner, but unfortunately none of these two will ever go offroading with me. They just wanted something for going skiing!

Just helped my 22 yr old daughter negotiate with 2 dealers on a 2019 TRD voodoo blue. They were both into way under cutting each other. The 1st one had one at $48,587 and had no side steps or bed liner, the one we went with had the side steps and bed liner and they lowered it to $46,000 so we went with them, msrp on that one was 52,887 so I feel she got a pretty good deal. Nice truck, love the color.

Forgot to mention my daughter is always cold,so I mentioned heated seats, they looked into what it would cost to have them installed by them and came back and said $600,I said how about splitting the cost and the GM of the dealership said ok,and then he said, does she want us to have the windows tinted also,I said yes and he said ok that'll be their cost

I'll try to keep it short, went to a local dealer and pretty much made a deal, but we would not let her give her SS number until we heard from her home loan lender as she had just finished having a house built, and just got her C of O so until we knew for sure her house was closed I didn't want to mess things up by buying a new truck. So while we were making the deal at 48,500 on the truck another dealer just a little bit further away just happened to text me asking if we were still looking for a Tacoma, which we were looking at until I told her she should get a tundra instead, told him we were making a deal on a tundra and he said we'll beat whatever price they offer you,I said how much,he threw out 46000 for the one they had, which had a few more options. The 1st dealer was texting me like crazy saying they'll beat whatever the 2nd guy was offering, but never gave me a number,he did lower the payment by $90 a month from the 1st deal he was offering, told me to just walk out and come back to him,I declined and had my daughter sign for the more optioned one at 46,000, msrp sticker was 52,370.
I cant believe they came down that low,and threw in window tint and half the cost of the heated seats.

    A couple of possibilities here.
    1. Cosign with parents
    2. Youtuber/instegramer- so many of them out there
    3. Web company/coding
    So on and so forth.

So if that 22-year-old is an entrepreneur / self-made then she may have bought the cheapest car/truck that any self-made kid has bought.

Believe it or not, she's a hair stylist and it's amazing how much money women spend on getting their hair done. No help from us on the truck or the house she just had built. She did live with us until her house was finished and actually moved out last January. She started working at 16 cause she wanted too and has always been a hard worker.
We are in Washington state for the guy looking for a truck,I know Toyota of Olympia has a Voodoo blue and they were the 1st ones we went to,they really wanted to sell that one to her and we're will to beat the other dealer.

Thanks everyone, both my daughters are awesome, never had any serious issues with either one. Had to drop the new truck off for a couple known issues, there was a scratch on the front bumper that they said they'd fix, plus getting the seat warmers and tinted windows installed, works out great cause we're all going to Disneyland this weekend so it's not like she would need it anyway. Of course she wants to modify it already....larger tires, she's coming from a lifted 4 door jeep that had 35s on it,I told her she needs to get some miles on it before she can get new tires.

Did universal studios today, not many people there. Hearing everyone is doing the new Star Wars park so Disney is very slow, walk on most rides without having to wait....the best thing is the weather is perfect..not too hot not to cold. Will see for myself tomorrow when we go there.

Funny that the front plate states “GR8 Deal”.

TX dealers, were sticking to msrp just a few months back. I’ve had 3 TX dealers contact me asking if I’m still in the market for a Pro. They are now offering them underneath MSRP. May be added pressure with the 2020’s coming out soon.

I'd like to think that dealer does great deals. She had to drop it off to get some bumper scratches fixed and to get the heated seats installed and the front windows tinted. They did an awesome job on all the things they said. The heated seats were $300 bucks more and they had the windows tinted on their dime. I'll be in the market for a new truck early next year, need a dually for a 5th wheel I'm planning on getting, they sell all brands just need to decide between the Ram and the GMC 1 ton,I'll be talking with them to see what they can do. Just wish Toyota would come out with a 1 ton dually.
On a side note the 1st dealer we were talking to still haven't refunded her deposit she put down, giving them till the end of the week before I call to see what they're thinking.
