I love this q&a. Clearly a generic answer!

Q: How do you install a header?
A: A header is a direct bolt-on. Simply remove the factory OEM exhaust manifold and the aftermarket header is put in its place. The header is to be attached the head of your vehicle. Remove all the bolts that hold the flanges in place and detach the factory manifold. The down pipe or exhaust pipe should be removed as well and then reattached once the header flanges are bolted back onto the head.

Sounds like the Haynes manual. "Installation is reverse of removal."

So was the first set that failed cheap? So does buying twice still cost less than just having Keith @dirtydeeds hook you up and then you won’t have another cheap product fail on you

I updated my previous post on the “Manzo” headers. Basically they’re trash.

The 3 direct header replacement options I’d consider at this point would be the JBA shortys, Gibson shortys or the Dorman stock manifold set.

If you plan to install yourself, forget about saving a little on the headers because you won't wanna do it twice.

If you plan on having a shop install them, forget about saving a little on the headers because you really won't wanna pay for install twice.

So which one are you saying had bad reviews the JBA or Dirty Deeds or both?

Neither, he meant the $145 headers.

Dirty Deeds sells JBA, those are the same thing.

@04 Tundra Did you happen to look into the Dorman manifold replacements? Like what kind of material vs the pacesetters you’re eyeballing? What I’m thinking in my head is cost and durability because you live in Canada(salt/corrosion). Like @Darkness said earlier, you don’t want to bust into this sort of job again if you don’t have to.

Yeah i saw these very similar to stock thats why i wanted to try something new like the shorties. 3/8 thick just like like the JBAs on the pacesetters. Resonator is rotted out as well, was thinking of getting the weld in BA muffler from dirtydeeds.

If that pace setters pic is accurate then look at the difference in flage designs. Pace setter is looking pretty skimpy compared to JBA.

I agree to that but wouldn't want to pay more for the dormans for the same skimpyness. I mean OEM are skimpy as well and they lasted 16 years.

Dude, just order JBA's and be done with it. This isn't something you want to go cheap on.

I have some JBAs for sale. $400 for the set. Brand new with gaskets and bolts. I bought the wrong ones (I have a 2006 which has SAIS, 2000-2004 these will work fine).

If my whole job stuff wasn't so in flux right now I would be buying the @dirtydeeds full header back. It is definitely on my list, but I want to make sure I can eat first. Truly their prices are not bad, and from all the testimonials on here I feel it would be stupid of me not to purchase from him.

I have the Doug Thorley shorties on my 04. Very happy, noticeable power improvement and less downshifting in hills. Keith will sell your every time on long tubes and he’s right, but that opens up a bigger can of worms with moving cats etc. If I wasn’t in CA I would do long tubes all day.

Minor surface rust but they have held up well the last 3 years.

I paid my shop to install and very happy I did. San Diego truck and he still needed it for 2 days to get the headers off. Cost me $600 in labor but worth every penny. Would have taken me twice that long easy.

Lastly how do you know your manifold is cracked? I thought mine was but the ticking sound was still there after install. Upon closer look my steering shaft that goes thorough the firewall has a gromet/condom seal and it was toast, no insulation so normal valve lifter sound was coming into cabin; $25 part.

Still happy I got my headers but worth a look if you want to put off and save for long tubes. Crawl under your truck and shine a flashlight up your steering shaft into cab. You’ll know right away.

firstgenvol, can’t find your Keith commentary, send the link. Was talking to him a few weeks ago about my supercharger install. Great dude.

I did the good old vacuum trick just set it on blow and shove it right up the muffler. Start spraying down the exhaust with soapy water and it will bubble a lot where there are leaks. So thats how i found where my leak was! i cleaned the area and tried the cheap putty fix for high heat. It just re cracked open.

I have GP603 Chrome Performance Header on the way they arrive Monday. I am going to take the old manifolds off tomorrow and give an update.

Strange flange design where the bolts come through. Notice the open holes on a few of the primaries and the slot style at the collector. Looking forward to seeing the install.
