They do a Veteran and first responders discount so that helps. Is there a Hopdaddy in Austin? I need to try it. Rodeo Goat in Dallas and Houston have the best burgers I’ve had so far but they are very $$$

Wait a few weeks after they eat that, bring them down to San Antonio and schedule a tour of the Tundra plant. After the tour, head downtown to check out the Alamo. Then take them to LuLu's Bakery and get a 3lb cinnamon roll...

If it's closer to lunch, you could bring them to Big Lou's for pizza. They have a 62-incher.

Subscribing for all the excellent eating tips!

I've been wanting to get down for several years now to attend the Lonestar Roundup. Looks like a great gettogether for fans of "traditional" Hot Rods.

I've heard great things about it - September is HUMID & HOT though. The food in and around Austin is really amazing. Hell, all of Texas. Snow's BBQ in Lexington is one of the top BBQ places in Texas and it's only open on Saturdays. There's a series on Netflix called "BBQ Stories" or something and the first episode is devoted to older lady, Tootsie, that is the pitmaster for Snow's. It's pretty cool to watch - she's pretty humble and amazing. Very native Texan. Those are the people I love down here the most - it's the humble ranchers and the laid back country folk. There are good people everywhere in Texas, but those people are my favorites.

OP, another place to visit is Lockhart. They have a really cool town square and some really great BBQ. Also, it's the home of the Texas Hatters. They make hats for Willie, designed the original hat for Stevie Ray Vaughn, and a ton of other famous people. The original owner, Manny Gammage, passed away years ago. He was an amazing person, former Green Beret, Viet Nam vet and just a hell of a personality. I want to say he did most of the hats for Willie, Waylon, David Allen Coe, etc. Anyways, his daughter Joella and her husband run it now and it's just a cool place to stop buy, see that hats, and shoot the shit.

Best BBQ in texas is evie Mae's imo. It's in wolffroth Texas which is about 4 hours away but there's a line as soon as they open and they are open til they sell out. They don't have a closing time because they always sell out. They were in texas monthly magazine and texas country reporter I believe. Oh and free beer.

I lived in Marble Falls for four years which is about an hour away from Austin, not sure which direction. Beautiful little town got lots of good scenery and some pretty nice people there. Hopefully one day I can get out of the Florida Panhandle and get back up to that area. My parents live in Killeen which if I were you I would avoid like the plague but the other areas around there are nice.

I think we’re headed to Bastrop. Properties are too damned pricey in North Austin.

They are getting that way around Bastrop too. We live in Smithville, East of Bastrop and the Historic District prices have skyrocketed. It's a really cool area though (Bastrop County). Especially right now because it's f-ing freezing. If you decide to buy used, let me know. I have an amazing home inspector that I can recommend.

Marble Falls is very nice. Killeen sucks like most military towns. I really like the Lampasas area - they have some really cool old houses.

You need to get it in your head that Whataburger is better than In-N-Out. Welcome to the great state of Texas!

Are you by chance a Niners fan?

Thank you! I have had Whataburger before, I remember is being good, but it’s just been too many years now haha..

I am kind of lame when it comes to the NFL, I like the Niners and the Rams, but I don’t really follow them religiously. The wife is a die hard Bears Fan, so typically 10am Sunday that’s the team on in our house. I follow College ball a lot more.

Yea I hear ya. My wife is from the Bay Area I’m actually a fan of both In-N-Out and Whataburger. For some reason everyone wants to compare the two against each other instead of letting them both be great.

If you’re a fan of college football, you’ll have to make it to DKR on game day. It’s quite an experience.

    100% on both!

I went to USC so used to pretty crazy game days, but for some reason I am betting that Texas Longhorn fans take it to another level haha. Definitely will be on the list of things to do!
