Correct not even close to "purely aesthetic".

For a short time I had LED bulbs in OEM halogen reflectors. That lasted about 2 months until I was tired of being "that guy" plus the lighting was messy.

I was so disappointed with the arrangement that I bought new projector housings (Alpharex, I love the Morimotos but have 5 different vehicles that beg for mods, so tried to save ) and new LED bulbs to fit. It cost more than slapping eBay bulbs into a halogen but the performance is MUCH MUCH better and you're not that person blinding everyone on the road.

Well said! I had XB's on my 13, and now I have them on my 2020. Just put a set on the wife's 4R as well.

Just saw this thread revived from the dead and don’t believe this was answered. The DRP is tapped into the ignition fuse so whenever the ignition is on, the DRL will be on. I lost the function to turn off DRL with my light stalker control. Not too much of an issue but now I can’t be totally blacked out at night like Batman.

    Lots o’ mods
I have been toying with the idea of putting a switch in between the fuse box and the light in order to be able to deactivate the DRLs. Of course, it would be on 99% of the time, so I’m unsure of how long the switch/relay might last under constant on conditions.

@omgboost @TravisJr I am researching this DRL issue. I am not sure why we lost the function to turn the DRLs off. I just installed a set of Gen 2 XB's in the wife's 2020 4Runner and can still turn them off using the switch on the stalk. The tap is installed in the IGN2 on the 4R as certain models will randomly turn the lights on momentarily if using the original fuse tap location. IGN2 was Morimotos fix on their site.

There is a harness on the underside of that support where you have it taped to. I ziptied mine to that harness.

I watched this YouTube video https://m.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=328&v=PNHbz6ERHmQ&feature=emb_title of a guy installing AlphaRex lights (also has a DRL wire) and he tapped in to a different wire (skip to 6:25) than recommended and says it keeps the full functionality. (Yah different setup but I'm wondering if it still applies ... its just a power wire right?) I am interested in new lights (haven't picked the brand yet) but would definitely prefer to be able to turn off the DRL as well.

Curious what others find out. Of course I would prefer to just plug-n-play, but this DRL question is pretty much my excuse for not ordering right now.

I may take a look around the headlights later in the year. It's too cold to do anything outdoors now. I wonder how much power the DRL uses than the halogen DRL if it uses a 10 amp? fuse. I took a look at the install manual and the parking light harness is connected so I don't see why they couldn't connect the DRL on the morimoto to the parking light harness? Anyways, it's not really bugging me as 99% of the time my DRL is always on/headlight position on AUTO.

The Ambers are going to look awesome on your black truck. I thought pretty hard about waiting for the amber when I pulled the trigger.

Weird how it is not a user selectable option on all headlights, like the sequential signals. I mean, the white DRLs light amber when signaling.

One of the more straight forward headlight swaps I've done.

You'll probably break a clip or two removing the panels under the lights, but they still seem to snug up nice with the hood all closed up.

Fogs are easy peasy too. Just flop around in the bumper like a hotdog down a hallway. I did a custom sort of thing using the Toyota blanks and they jiggle around just as much as the factory fogs.

Is it normal for the daylight/ parking lights to turn off for a second when switching from headlights on to headlights off ?

Mine turn off for a second (or 2) going from headlights to city/parking lights... but that's only to let the sequentials do their little dance. Sometimes I'll wait till I'm stopped behind someone to turn off the headlights, just so I can watch in the reflection.

Did you decide to rock sequential blinkers or standard?

I know when turning on the truck for the first time the headlights do this sequence of turning on. Its kinda interesting. lol

Hey, are there any options out there for replacing the back lights of our trucks?? Other than LED bulbs?

The Gen 2 Morimotos do that startup sequence. The Gen 1 does not. For tail lights, the Hi-Revs are popular for aftermarket. I do not like them myself. I went with the Hottails conversion, which is also becoming very popular. @memario1214 can hook you up with those.

1st Question: How are the Morimoto's holding up condensation wise? I've heard stories of water ingress... Scared to take them in a car wash. lol

2nd: I suppose I need to search Hottails on this forum to see what they look like??? I'm feeling lazy. :notsure:

I had them on my 2013 for 6 months with no issues. I have has the one on my 2020 since Sept of 2020 with no issues. There were a couple of isolated cases of condensation on a batch which was corrected. I haven't heard of anything in quite a while.

The hottails have 2 options. One option is both red lenses are parking and brake lights, and a switchback is used in the reverse bulb to give you an Amber turn signal.

The other option is leaving the reverse as is, and both reds are parking, brake, and turn signals.
I'll link the videos of them.
