Not really. A sort distance with a giant Saturn 5 booster to help it along. I was just a kid living in Orange County, Kali. Many of our neighbors worked at General Dynamics assigned to the moon project. It's unbelievable that folks ignore simple facts. Numerous hi res satellites orbit the moon. How do you deny hi-res images of what we left behind, even foot prints???? Seriously. As mentioned.....radio transmissions from the moon.......monitored by the Russians. Didn't happen??? Seriously.....LOL

Quite frankly it's a disservice to all the folks and astronauts behind the massive effort. Some astronauts died.

Except when they’re launching military satellites.
I’m a believer and wanted to be an astronaut as a kid in the 80s. Until I learned I’d never be a fighter pilot and therefore test pilot since I’m color blind and had too high of a sitting height.

I do wish nasa had continued to get any useful budget to use since the 60s.

Yep, and they had just enough. Apollo 11, Armstrong and Aldrin were within seconds of running out of fuel on the decent stage while they were hovering to find a suitable landing spot. The Accent stage had just enough fuel to blast off from the Decent stage to break gravity, which is 1/6 of earth so not as much energy/fuel was needed, and they used the thrustser to move into position to dock with the command module.

See really, there were 2 space ships, one that carried them to the moon and back, and one to land on the moon. They were built in stages and those spent stages were dropped away once it was depleted of fuel.

You have to remember that they were planning this stuff long before Kennedy said to do it before the end of the decade.

You mean actual footage or the hokey (by today's standards) illustration they used to visualize the space ships?

    Short answer is NO.

I agree with all of these. Had we faked that, the Soviets would’ve been screaming like crazy that it was bs. The fact that they didn’t debate it is probably the most convincing argument that it did happen. You can also look at the moon with a telescope and see what was left behind. (Unless they faked that also.)
The world isn’t flat, vaccines are necessary, and we landed on the moon.

As Matt said, it’s a great dishonor to the people who risked everything for this to happen, and some did lose their lives in the effort.

One of the most fascinating things I’ve ever read was how they had made preparations in the event that the mission failed, and the astronauts couldn’t return. A good article, including the speech that was prepared for President Nixon can be found here:

They did lose a bunch of film from the mission. And I believe the footage of the first step isn't the original. It was a recording of the original playing on the screen.

And remember, as far as having the fortitude and technology... we had split the atom and made the most destructive weapons known to man more than 20 years prior. This didn't happen by accident. A bit of physics and math were involved. Many everyday things that people take for granted now were derived from the military and space program over the years. Many things. Got "ceramics " to cook with ?, microwave oven?, miniaturized electronic circuits?, etc..

They were using the best video technology they had at the time, a system that did not work in any simulations but for some reason, it actually worked when it was needed.

It's amazing to me, after 50 years people doubt we went to the moon. Guess they should have gotten more cameras rigged up to capture the moment because if it's not on video it didn't happen, right?

We're not talking about video quality or not capturing it on video. We're talking about them losing the film after they got back to earth. All I said was the footage we keep seeing is not the original. LOL, not really sure how you're getting that I'm doubting we went to the moon. I have no doubts.

Sorry, i'm not aware of any film being lost. Didn't mean to be pokin' you so hard. This is one of those things that just about triggers me.

What I understand was the transmission from the moon of Armstrong was not video, it was live feed and any recording was done on earth. The signal sent was really bad because they had to use low frequency and frame rates to get the stream back to earth live.
