This thread reminds me of a few years back when my better half removed a shrink-wrapped frozen turkey from the freezer to get at something underneath. She set it in an empty cardboard box beside the freezer, and got what she needed from the freezer.

I think the lid flaps of the box were either half-closed or fully closed when we finally discovered the source of the “unique” smell that took over our attached garage, entryway (door to the garage from there) and the adjacent laundry room. That was 3 - 4 weeks later, and in the summer.

Disturbing that 20 lb swollen bundle of joy was a real treat, and even sealed inside a plastic pail it threatened extinction on every olfactory system within a 10 mile radius as it sat waiting for garbage day in the summer heat.

In the end, a Toyota truck was put to the task of transporting it to it’s new home at the landfill, and it took a few Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas dinners before I enjoyed eating turkey again.

Glad to hear that all your efforts worked!!
I've had similar circumstances in my vehicles... Oxyclean is great stuff, as is the vinegar step. One thing that I'd add is to dump a box of baking soda on the carpet and let that sit about a week before vacuuming up. Love the Coffee idea as well.
