    My daughter had to get nail punctured the other year. She slammed it in a car door and it swelled up rather nicely. That was no fun for me to watch as a father, nor to see her in pain; although it did apply immediate relief for her when they punctured it.

    Got all set up for bottling this weekend :)

    The large stainless tank on the left is used to reheat about 15 gallons of syrup up to 220° where it is then checked for correct specific gravity with a hydrometer. If it's too thick it gets diluted with sap, too thin and we have to let some evaporate off.
    Once it's just right it gets some diatomacious earth added then sucked through a pump and filter which is the device in the middle. It has 7 layers of paper filters which aid the DE in filtering. From the filter it goes into that pan on the right side of the picture. This is the "canning unit" it gets heated up to 190° then bottled.

    Yeah tomorrow looks like a nightmare. Hopefully it brings some cold weather behind it. We really need to cold night to kickstart the sap flow again.

    I just caught up on this thread after about a week and, after reading all the posts of members elbowing each other out of the way to buy, followed by @Pudge 's updates about warm weather maybe shortening the season, I was getting nervous. But, lucky me, I verified I got in the queue a while back (post #33), and so am hoping my chances are good. Anyway, it adds to the excitement, kinda like betting at the races!
