I'm am about 15 min east of Hartford. And Plainfield is about 45 min east on me. Youll have to pretty much drive by the sugar shack to get from hartford to Plainfield. Sounds like we can meet up at some point. I'm only at work Monday and Thursday that week. I'll PM you my cell so we can talk.

Not a bad way to spend the day. Reaming / cleaning some holes out for what should be a good week of sap.

Will you start a new thread when it's ordering time?

Best would be to PM those that ordered last year for the first batch... Just saying :bucket:

That was a lot of work for only about 120 gallons today. Put in about 6 hours, just got home. Having a foot of snow on the ground certainly slows you down. I was able to collect all the sap which was good because now we have empty buckets for the weekend which should be a good flow.
I also reamed out about half the taps to clean them up and get the taps seated tight again. They were all dripping like crazy by the end of the day so I have high hopes for this week.

I appreciate the interest and support everyone. Days like today make me wonder why I do all this work, it's a lot of work and very time consuming. The easy way out would have been to just let the holes dry up and heal over. But I really wanna squeeze another week of so out of the season and make some more syrup. It's not about the money, it's the satisfaction of knowing my hard work pays off. I know this stuff isn't cheap but I hope you all can see why, and appreciate that you all buy syrup from me.
My quart jugs didn't show up yet so it'll be another week until I can get it bottled up and shipped. I apologize for the delay and tease.

She's a good helper. Tough for a 6 year old but she tags along and has fun. She's very interested in everything and loves telling people how syrup is made.

Put in an 8 hour day today, did some collecting and cooking. My helper stayed by me the whole time...she took a tour through a horse barn at one property we tap, played with kids from 2 others as I collected. Invited people over to the sugar shack and even explained how it all worked. Some of my brothers neighbors have kids in her grade and around her age so they all were playing all day. I couldn't be prouder of my daughter being outside all day, helping me out, no electronics, luckily I packed lunch and dinner. When we got home her feet were soaked (I always bring 2 backup pairs of socks and boots for her) I said I wish you told me, she says "I didn't care dad, I was helping you and playing outside, wet feet don't bother me when I'm having fun". One of the best days I've had in a long time. And like I said I couldn't be prouder today. She's too little to carry buckets or put wood on the fire, but she's there with me side by side, even helped haul wood from the pile to the barn. This is a great experience for her and I'm so happy i can do this with her. And happy you're all here and supportive so I/we can keep doing it. I may not turn much of a profit with all this work, but it sure is satisfying and is teaching her at a young age what hard work is and how it can pay off
