Have you tried to take down the upper console that houses the map and dome lights? If the 2004 light consoles are anything like the 3rd gen upper consoles, the bulb sockets are very easily messed up when putting in LED light bulbs. The bulb sockets are easily pushed off the circuit board making them very loose in the console. On my 2015, the map light upper console is held in place by 4 screws and comes down very easily. There are some very good threads on how to fix the issue.

pretty sure the switches are wasted. after pulling the plastic covers off, the switch nipple is stuck inside and will not toggle.I guess that 16 years is past its life expectancy. thanks for your advice.

Try a junk yard for the entire assy or you can buy a brand new one from online Toyota. Easier and better to just replace the entire unit versus just the switches. Plug and play!

Not sure if the 04 has the metal lens covers like the 02, but they can be removed for added light while you are in there. You can see what I’m saying on my build page.

I'm having the same issue on 2005 TRD. Now have 3 'toggle' switches that have given up the ghost. Been looking for replacement switches...see some (Doorman) that look visually similar but none specifically for this truck. Any luck other than buying the entire overhead console and dome light?
