Thinking about this pillar pod and two gauges for monitoring boost and afr.

 

Contemplating this as well. Was never a huge fan of these devices but feel it might be nice addition with the SC install. I’ve read through the pedal monster thread and it sounds like most banks (if not, all) users are very satisfied- regardless if using from stock upgrade vs moving over from a competitors product.

 

No need for the pedal monster if you get a tune done. The pedal feel can be adjusted in the tune. The color on the pillar pod didn’t match when we ordered it but maybe you’ll have better luck

It’s on the old man’s rig he kept it. Pics attached. You may need to drill out or enlarge the hole in the back to feed the wiring. The paint is also fragile and chips easily

 

That's not too bad.
I'm more concerned with if the 2nd gen versions retain the handle on the pillar. Looks like there is a 1 pod and 2 pod version. I reached out to the manu and will report back so others know. I ordered the analog innovate boost gauge - thinking I can get away with monitoring afr via torque app on my HU

 

Second choice would be the universal pod / gauge holder. I think it looks OK... not perfect but might be better than anything else I can find.

Is the pillar mount not a concern as far as making the gauge pods projectiles if the curtain airbags deploy?

My understand of the side curtain airbag deployment is that it’s designed to let the plastic go forward towards the windshield so the airbag can be deployed toward the driver. That being said, I get that any object flying around during an accident in any manor is not ideal.
I’m certainly not sold on it, but toying with the ‘options’

 

To each their own, but I’m not a huge fan of them. I had a similar style mount on my e46 and thought it was ok- simply for lack of a better solution.
On the truck, I think I’m only going to run 1 gauge for boost, so def don’t want a single ear sticking up. Just not my cup of tea.
May have to hold the gauge in different places in the truck once it arrives to see what I like and what is easily visible while driving without taking my eyes off the road.

I have the driver side handle. so....I can't mount it there. Craven was 2nd best.


a while back, someone posted a doo-dad that mounted to the lower screw of the handle. looked nice, but I think it was just for the Tacoma.

 

Unless you're talking about tying in an aftermarket AFR gauge to the torque app (which sounds hard to do but I'm not an electrical engineer), then that option doesn't buy you much. If you're using the stock afr sensors they have a limit of how rich they can read, and even at max rich it's too lean so you'll only vaguely know the truck richened out but not if it was enough.

 

Water pump and thermostat ordered cause why not when my existing has 162k on it and I’ll have the access when doing the SC Install. Seems like good housekeeping.

 

Any idea what the full range of the oe pre cat o2 will read?

edit: quick searches tell me the stock pre cat o2 can show between 11:1 rich and 18:1 lean. I’m ok with that range as that will tell me the most important piece, whether the truck is running too lean at wot (or anytime really)

 

I don’t think it reads richer than 11.9. That’s the lowest I’ve seen displayed on my Scangauge 2.

 

Yup 11.9 is the richest it will read, which is not rich enough for a boosted 3UR.

The gauge pods work well, those Autometer gauges suck though.

 

The A-pillar trim is bolted to the A-pillar with 2x10mm bolts, it does not fly off when the curtain shield airbag deploys, so I think it’s pretty safe to put gauges there.

 

Oh yea I think the autometer gauges are garbage. Went with innovate gauges. Was torn between them and aem, but ended up liking the analog innovate gauge the best and wanted them both to be the same brand

You won't need this with a SC, IMO. I had the Pedal Commander before I SCd. Got rid of it after.

the pedal commander & similar devices are for those poor souls without a S/C.

it is blasphemy to use it with a blower.

Tow/Haul does whatever you may need in times of boredom.
