Curious what everyone has done to improve the sound. Sub, amps, tweeters, etc. I've seen "kits" online from a couple places and they look cool, but not sure of the overall quality. Plus they usually run around $1500. Not looking to go over the top, but something better.

    Recommendations?

    Bump. Anyone got any advice?

I've read that just doing an amp and speakers may not be enough since the signal coming from the stock radio is so weak. Thoughts? Would I need something else to help the frequency, and "pump up the jam". HA.

*Oh, and I want to keep the stock head unit.

I have a 1794 and upgraded all of my door speakers and sub with JL Audio and added a 5-channel amp. It is a night and day difference and is perfect for my ears.

I have a budget dump from dirty deeds and could not hear much music without the volume way up. Now, at low settings I can hear music clearly.

Did you keep the factory radio? How did you run it from there to your amp? No other equipment to increase the signal?

The shop grabbed the signal from the factory amp. I kept the HU for factory looks. I did not need the processor in this case.

I've looked at their stuff and they seem to know what they are doing. But I've heard good and bad. Not really sure about what the equipment is, and really didn't want to spend as much as they cost.

I believe a few people on here have ordered from tech12volts and I have been considering ordering from him as well. He is popular on a Tundras Facebook page. Per Facebook posts, he carries more than what is on the website, but you have to call him.

Focal Experts if you have the money. Not sure what you are trying to spend, but the expert flax is one of the best component sets I have heard. The higher end JL audio sets are good as well, especially if you like Rock etc.

My system build thread with part numbers and sources for harnesses, etc. If you are thrifty and know what you are looking at you can save a ton going with used items. Speakers are pretty easy as they can be hooked up and tested, checked for bad voice coils, etc. Amps and electronics are a little trickier, I mean sure they can be tested but its usually a brief on/off test and not very forthcoming with potential issues. DOA is one thing, having an amp overheating or going into safe mode after x amount of time of operations is a whole different ball of wax.

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
I went with stock head unit since camera, HD radio, XM and CD player were involved. I went with Alpine R series component 6 1/2 in front doors with 1" tweeter and 6 1/2 in rear doors. The stock amp under passenger seat was swapped out with Alpine power pack amp. The sub is a Pioneer 10" speaker & box combo slim fit for under rear seat installed in cargo box along with Pioneer amp. Wired with Kicker harness and 50 amp fuse off of battery. Entire package installed for under $ 1,000.00 from professional tech at my local Best Buy.

I shopped around and was able to price match for better prices.

    My truck rocks!

Do you have any photos of the amp and sub? You have a double cab so under seat works, but I'd have to go behind the seat. Did you use the stock rear tweeter or alpine again?

That's what I did. He is great to work with, great prices and will bend over backwards to help you out. I kept my stock head unit, he gave me a harness that plugged into the stock amp plug in and harnesses for the speakers so I didn't cut a single stock wire. If I want, I could return it to stock very easily. I went with Helix up front, JBL in the rear, JL audio 5vr700 amp and a JL audio 10tw3 sub in one of his boxes. It sounds a hundred times better then it did. It won't win any competitions, but for keeping the stock head unit I can't complain.

Sorry for the potentially dumb question as I am not familiar with the different versions of our truck. I have the DC, with the NON-JBL stereo. I wanted to upgrade the HU, but stick with stock. How hard would it be to upgrade to the Toyota JBL touchscreen DVD Nav system? Will I lose storage under the rear seat? I currently don't have anything under either rear seat, it's all storage (which I really like).

Do you have pictures of your sub set up. I'm waffling on this...but I'd be willing to give up half of my under seat storage. Thanks.

Focal!!! I would consider mine more then just an upgrade but not anything to wild. I replaced all door speakers with Focals. Running a JL Audio 1000 watt amp and 2 12" subs. I have about two master install kits worth of dyno mat on my doors and the JL fix Audio module.
Like posted above I also have a Dirty Deeds Budget exhaust and I can turn mine up loud enough you can't hear the exhaust.

How high are the gains turned on your amp? Mine are about 1/3 and if I go any higher I get static at low volumes. I have been told the fix for this is an aftermarket head unit and remove the fix processor. I may go that route but I am wondering if anyone else has this same issue.

I have not had that problem, but mine is turned a little higher. Yes, an aftermarket HU would help your issue but the FIX is designed to eliminate that without having to get a new HU. I did not install mine, i don't trust myself enough on stuff like that. I've installed numerous systems but i didn't want to be "responsible" for this one

Ok Wes & Adam I finally got pics of my set up. I know it fits under the rear seat without the cargo box cause I had this set up briefly in my 08 Tundra.

I also took a pic of Kicker fuse block under the hood.

    Anyway hope this helps.
