    Had a 2014 Toyota 4 runner with 90k trouble free miles......paid it off and two days later a guy was texting and blew through a red light and t-boned me going 50 mph. That’s why I now have four more years of payments. Hopefully my days without a payment will be much longer on the tundra.

    Truck payments?

    I have not had a truck payment for about 22 years, I sold my first truck and I am still driving the other two.

    I paid off my '94 Chevy in '99. I had a young family then and could not save. I hated every payment and have not had a vehicle loan since.

    Never had a vehicle payment purchased first vehicle used 1979 Mustang $3000 in 1984 and had it until 1989.
    purchased 1984 Olsmobile Cutlass Supeme in 1989
    purchased 2002 F150 Supercrew in 2008
    purchased 2010 (lease back) Tacoma in 2009 traded in 2002 F150 super crew
    purchased 2015 new 4runner in 2014 traded in 2010 Tacoma
    purchased 2018 new F150 regular cab
    purchased 2019 new Tundra traded in F150

    Mostly bought used vehicles until 2015. So 1984 until 2019 no vehicle payments.. specifically no truck payments 2008-2019

    Bought a 2003 Tacoma in 2003 and paid it off immediately. Drove it until 2018.

    In 30 years (since I was 17) I never had a payment. I always bought and paid in full for my cars/trucks. I bought my 17' and paid it off in the first year with about 10 payments, and the only reason I had those payments was because I had to buy my wife's Highlander the same year and I didn't have enough for both. But I don't see myself ever having another payment.

    Bought an 03 4R in 08 for cash, just bought a 15 Tundra TRD PRO, still have the 4R, so 11 years ….gonna accelerate the payoff, retirement does not mix well with payments!

    Once Reduced.jpg My compadre wanted to buy a 1949 Chevy pickup truck ~ the guy wanted $300 cash for it.
    Bryan says to his dad;
    "I wanna buy that truck but I only have $200."

    His dad says;
    "Good ~ when you get another hundred bucks you can buy that Chevy."

    I suspect Bryan never had car payments either . . .

    Same here, always bought used trucks. Saved the money first and always paid cash. So far never had a truck payment.

    I bought my Tacoma new in 2002. Paid it off over 5 years, but I had it for 16 years, until I traded it on the Tundra. It was nice not having the truck payment for 11 years. But I had a payment on my wife's car and my son's car, so it wasn't really a situation of no car payments at all.
    My wife puts 40,000 miles a year on her vehicles, so we have to trade every 5 years by the time it gets to 200,000. We will always have car payments.
    My daughter is turning 16 so there is another one coming. Still have 2 years to go on my son's camry.

    I bought my 09 new and paid it off in 2013 or 2014, I forget which. Enjoyed between 2 and 3 years with no payments until I succumbed to the Dodge Challenger obsession I've had since 2008 and picked one up in early 2016. That will be paid off early next year. I hope to hold them both a couple years while watching to see what all these new trucks on the market do reliability-wise. Part of me thinks I could and should hold this truck to 200K. But in the era of more complicated and expensive vehicle repairs I don't want to press my luck after over a decade with zero major un-scheduled repairs, end up with a 4K AIP repair or something like that on a vehicle I could have dumped and gotten some money out of. 12-13 years and 110K seems like a reasonable compromise to get my money's worth and still be able to use it to get me into something new without too much out of pocket. Can't imagine there will be too many Gen2 Tundras around that old with such low mileage and a complete history of full dealer maintenance including all drivetrain fluids.
