I'd like to know how long over stock the arms are and exactly what kind of travel your 4x4 race kit can pull. Seems like it should be able to do more than 16"

Also, a good picture of how low the arms hang so we can judge ground clearance would be great. Also, what uniballs do you use

    Thanks!

The 4x4 race kit is 4.5" over on each side, same as the bolt on kit. Travel numbers are tricky with the race kit because I like to put conservative numbers on the website (I know 17" is the average, which is more than sufficient for most people) - I'd rather have someone say they get 18" of travel out of a kit that lists 17" than someone take a tape measure and b!tch that it only gets 16.75" (Just being honest)

You CAN get more travel, just depends on how much inner fender well you want to remove when you stuff a 37" tire in there...I don't have a metal to metal measurement on hand - I'll see if I can get that from one of my dealers who's putting a kit on very soon.

    We use FK uniballs, exclusively.

Hopefully this picture suffices, if not I uploaded a bunch from this build to our website

    Cheers,
    Ryan

Thanks for the info! I'm thinking about upgrading my TC kit. Assuming I cage the engine and I have all the uptravel clearance I need, is 18" realistic?

What size FK? I keep breaking the misalignment spacers on the LCA uniballs with 1" FK

Of course, anything you guys need always welcome to ask - if I don't know I'll find someone here who does...I'm never going to put a guarantee because I have no idea how you're going to set up that cage or where you're going to place your bumpstops, but 18" is a good possibility, just be careful with your CV's and make sure they dont bottom out before the suspension does. (We have a customer who installed a front clip of a Tundra on an old FJ and he say's it's getting 19" of travel. I can't verify that so take that with a grain of salt...
We use a 1.5" uniball on our lower control arms, 1" on the spindle at the upper control arm. :benchpress:

I was looking to buy the new Can Am x3 Max til riding with group of SxS on the long trip about 100 miles and see how dirt all over the place, no heater in the am and no AC afternoon so I backed out and use fraction of that money to build mid travel on my gen1.

Question for you guys, is the pro comp long travel really that bad? I don’t do any high speed hoops, mainly for lower speed stuff, with some overland, was gong to use king shocks instead of the pro comps. I always see “I heard they are bad” or “one of my friends, friends had something break” does anyone have any actual experience with the kit?

If you don't need LT just get a good MT setup. A lot cheaper and perform just as well. Or do 3.0 coils up front with or without bypasses and Deavers and Bypasses in the rear. @M C M has a good matching ADS setup and would out perform the ProComp IMO. Plus you don't have to run those ugly fender flares. ProComp only comes with 2.0 rear shocks and no real increase in travel. Only 14 inches of travel up from where ADS MT will give you 13.

Thanks, I’m used to solid axles rigs, so l/t is new to me, I like the idea of 5” more track width for stability, and I really don’t want 3” wheel spacers hahaha

Are there any mid-travel kits that provide width without much lift? I can't swing $3k for a LT kit, but I'd like to gain to some width. Anyone do extended LCA/UCA kits for $1k?

My reason being is I really like the wider stance, but going crazy with offset on the wheels ends up with battered wheel bearings. It'd be nice to gain 2" of width and use the stock wheels, stock suspension, etc.

Thanks. I'm still learning what is and isn't possible within the boundaries of the stock setup. I know absolutely nothing about long-travel setups and I'm definitely a question and answer type learner.

Next question: do people typically run lower offset along with LT kits? I'd think that the increase in track width would allow you to actually run stock offset without putting undue stress on the ball joints, tie rods, impacting scrub radius, etc.

Its all good, there are no dumb questions. Just questions with short answers LOL

I run stock wheels on my LT kit, +55mm offset, 8" wide. I agree with you, stock offset puts the least amount of stress on your suspension. Plus it makes it easier to fit on trails and obstacles off road.

Most guys with LT run 0 offset because they like the wide prerunner look. 0 offset is easier to clear the inner fender if you run 37s, but I just pushed mine up with a bottle jack

Whoa, if stock is +55 and most are running 0 offset, that's quite a change. I'd imagine stock wheel bearings would take a beating in those situations, right?

Well, I haven't heard of any wheel bearings failing. But I would be more worried about bending a spindle. But I haven't heard of that happening either

Is that practice of running lower offset wheels common on most Pre-Runner-esque setups? Including the 1st Gen?

The reason I ask is that if you ask "I'm looking for -30mm offset wheels" people will run you out of town with pitchforks, telling you that you'll kill your family with how dangerous your truck is. Yet, that seems to be common on long-travel setups with huge tires driving at high speed on highly abusive terrain.

Interesting. So the stock wheel bearings must be pretty stout, or at least not terribly impacted by lower offsets.

It's a shame nobody ever offered upgraded and extended ball joints for the 1st Gen Tundra.

I’ve had zero offset wheels on my truck for 3-4yrs now and over 60k miles, only changed my bearings because I’m stupid and heard a noise and assumed it was the bearings... my wheel Center cap was loose :frusty:
If you look at the 2007+ Tundra suspension compared to the first gen Tundra or any Tacoma/FJ/4runner it is massive. Makes them all look puny and weak!

I've created a spreadsheet that I've edited the first post with. It helps compare the kits a little easier. There is still some information missing that I couldn't confirm but let me know if there are any other columns I should add.

you might want to include a tire size accommodation as well. i know TC, MCM and LSK can all do 37's not sure on camburg but im pretty sure they do as well.

i should note that TC and Camburg require +4 caster to clear 37's and come clearancing is required

I added a note about tire fitment also depending on alignment modifications.

TC kit is +1" wheelbase. Or more if you dial in a lot of caster
