I used to have a 35 Rem and sold it long time ago which I regret. I cannot seem to find a 35 Rem and ammo is impossible to find, could always reload if I had a rifle. I want just because I want one lol

Take a look at a Browning BLR in 358Win. if you reload or don’t mind paying for custom ammo. Scope it and with 225 grain bullets you can reach out quite a ways. For closer range use more like the 45-70’s useful ranges, a 250 grain bullet hits with authority for anything on this continent. Gives you quite a few advantages and you can get it in stainless too.

Just an idea.... I’ve got my 45 colt Marlin lever -16” barrel length.
I reload and (Buffalo Bore ammo if not) with A full charge of Lil Gun powder, I can crank up a 250gr Xtp jacketed hp to approximately 1,700 fps.
Most 45 colt Marlins and others are 18”-20” length barrel- so no problem getting that speed.
If a 454 Casull can take down a Grizzly and shoots a 250gr Bullet at about 1750fps - It would make sense that my Little 45 colt could do the same..... Plus if I get a stout Ruger, I can shoot that ammo in a handgun. Very versatile and no need for a 45-70.
Now I’m not advocating use of a 45 colt For Grizzly, yet it’s been done and is just a example of how versatile the 45 Colt can be compared to the 45-70.

Plus soft shooting fun at the range with cowboy load ammo is nice also

I know comparing a 454 Casull Handgun to my 45 Colt Lever is apples to Oranges, Yet Bullet Diameter,Weight and Fps..... Well, Not much difference.

Oh and Garret ammo makes a 45 colt ammo that shoots about 1400fps and is 400grs.....
That out of a little 45 Colt rifle would be stout, yet identical to that of the original loading of a 45-70.
The Range is still only about 100 yards tho.

Honestly any of my shooting is 100 yards or less, my eyes are not as great as they used to be.

In my neck of the woods (North East) That’s all the distance I’d get at a Deer/Black Bear.... So that’s why I’m an advocate for the Pistol caliber

I love my Marlin 45-70 Trapper. This post reminds me that I need to take it to WWG to get their Takedown conversion and rail.

I’m not sure on the year but my day bought this Marlin Saddle ring carbine new from Oklahoma Tire & Supply Company in or around 1977. He added the 4x Tasco scope around 1980. I slayed my first deer with it in 1984 in east Texas and a Sow Hog last weekend. It’s still a Fantastic shooter and It’s one gun I’ll Never part with. Also it’s chambered in 30/30. I need to be more proactive and find about 5 more boxes of ammo for it.

It’s in 30/30, I forgot to include it in my post. I’ll go correct it. Thanks

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
Browning BLR is the correct answer. Box magazine fed so you can use all projectile shapes. Stronger action because it has a rotating bolt. Easily optics compatible.

I understand the nostalgia for Winchesters and Marlins but the BLR is essentially a lever operated bolt gun and it’s better for it.

Plus the takedown model just begs for a custom gunsmith to make multiple barrel sets in a range of calibers that utilize the same bolt face size.

For example you could buy a BLR takedown model in .270 and have a custom barrel made for it in .338-06, .35 Whelen, or 9.3X62. All use a .473” diameter case/bolt face and .30-06 magazine length.

Speer point 175gr 375cal straight wall at 2500fps is sufficient for my needs

Marlin makes a good working man's lever gun.

I have two examples. JM 336 30-30 and a new production 1894 357mag. I particularly like the 1894, especially for recreational shooting as I reload which makes it inexpensive to shoot. The 1894 has a remarkably smooth action (much to the chagrin of one of my shooting buddies with a Henry). 1894 shown below with a Shooboy sight adjustment tool haha.
