I know that route - instead of taking a right on 29, take a left and go 3 miles to Rev Jim's Dam Pub; great hamburgers. I'm building a house off of FM 690. Your route is a fun ride!

I sold my firebolt shortly after I got a uly. Firebolt is a awesome bike but uncomfortable AF on anything more than a 10 minute ride.

I got the ulysses so i can take my dad on longer rides. His ‘94 xr650 isnt super happy about the 70mph roads. But the uly has spoiled me. Almost feel like i have to learn how to ride the firebolt again. Like balancing my upper body weight between my wrists, shoulders, and back. Everything about it felt weird. But some of that might have been a little fear, the last time i rode it my cam chest gasket blew and coated my rear tire in oil at 100mph on a corner. Sent me on the wrong side of oncoming traffic.

DAMN!!!:eek2: Taken out by a cam cvr gasket, that really sucks! That's a bad situation, I'm glad you survived!
The bike and parts can always be replaced, riders can't.
I always like to remind myself,as I dip into a corner, that my life is held onto the road by two patches of rubber about 1"X1".

My dad was raised to be terrified of motorcycles. My grandma has had a hatred of them at least my whole life. Shes not going to approve of dads new hobby. He did great on backroads. Not quite ready for the highways.

In case you didn't know, On your buells there's a mod to have both lights on at once. Pretty simple, just swap pin positions in the headlight plug.
I figured the more light I have, the better I can be seen.

I really don't want to derail anything here, as it's meant to be a pic thread for bikes, but it seems to have morphed into a general motorcycle discussion thread. Kinda like the ATV accessory thread is just anything ATV now. Kinda cool.

Anyway, I am just starting fresh into this stuff and wanted to ask a question about a brand/company and get an idea of their rep, so... Motul. Good? Bad? Ugly?

Sorry can't help much. The only product that I've ever used from them was off-road chain lube, but it worked great.

I went through a quart of their 2 stroke oil. Worked fine, but so does the cheap stuff.

That last bit implies they are expensive? I really know nothing about them at this point. They just sponsor a podcast that I've been watching and thought I'd ask here.

Good stuff, but expensive. It's sure not the only good stuff out there. I used Amsoil for years, mainly because a friend was a dealer, and I wanted to help him. That's no longer the case, and I'm going to Rotella T6 in my bikes. It's a good quality synthetic that is JASO certified for use in Japanese motorcycles.

Just like our trucks, there are any number of quality lubricants available.

Just looked up their 20w50 oil. $18/qt.

At that price it's gotta be good. Right? ;)

$10 / quart is pretty much in line with some other "motorcycle" oils -- Mobi1 motorcycle racing oil, Amsoil, etc. And how much do you actually need a year? I go through about 12 quarts in the average year, so $10 / quart is no big deal. Even $18 wouldn't be a burden if I were convinced it was better ;)

I assume from the pad banded to your hand that you are the one in the Airflite. How do you like it? I dig the looks, and that it is ECE rated. If it'll fit my fat head I might wind up with one. Would you recommend it?

its loud for how heavy it is, and the inside fabric is ‘grippy’ on hair and ears, so i wear a headsock. Dads modular helmet is much better for glasses and communication. I dont have a radio, so i rely on hand signals while moving, where he can raise the face and i can understand even if i dont hear him.

i bought the one with a clear visor, that have the built in sunglasses, and have 3 shields now. The clear, if its dark. Chrome, the tint is on the outside, so when rocks hit the lens, it tears the tint and you have a visible scratch usually in your line of sight. And gold, because they didnt have the clear-yellow i wanted.

i got a large, and its smaller than the large i tried on at cyclegear. Probably why it folds my ears, but a headsock also cuts down on the wind noise. Its also a little tight for glasses, but i got some with a thinner straight temple instead of a curved temple, so they’re on and off easy. The lenses are like $50 each, but its nice to have extras, cause agv quit making lenses for my white helmet.

oh, mine is a rubbery flat black color. You literally cannot touch it while wiping it down, like it absorbs fingerprints. Gloss would be so much easier.

Though I can see that side of it, it's also a gut reaction of a group that isn't citing or providing any kind of statistics. It could just be that their newer guys wreck more often and are wearing Icons in a larger number. There is in no way enough data for me to think they are inferior to other ECE rated helmets. Just my personal perspective. If they can't show that out of 100 crashes with X helmet and 100 crashed with Y helmet there is some kind of statistically relevant deviation, then it's just a group make a decision on their own perceptions.
