pic a week after sand leveling. put out 7 yards of sand by hand which was no fun but sure makes a difference cutting it. front yard is small but the back yard is huge.

and for those of you that don't know, palm trees are sold by the foot. that tree cost more than adding the best wheels and tires would run. crazy!

Glad I don't live in Canada. Been up to Montreal, Vancouver and remote parts of BC, beautiful cities, friendly people, beautiful country in mountainous BC. Its just outside of that zone of more temperate BC, I could not deal with your guys bullshit winter weather. Its not even that I don't mind some winter, its just I could not deal with first snowfall in October and last snowfall in May. I mean that is way too many months of cold, snow blasted bullshit. I've visited family in Ohio during the winter, wind howls on the plains, snow everywhere, everybody's car/truck is a rusted out POS, I'm sure its even worse if you go farther north.

You all have some beautiful lawns!
I did at one time (when it was small enough to push-mow). Now, that lovely crabgrass you all hate - I hate with a passion!! I have so damn much of it!

Do you guys over seed every year?

Not much to look at right now, and I will have a net strung between those two large trees that I can raise & lower as needed.

So do you guys mulch your clippings or bag them? My Deere does a shit job at mulching, but I guess it could be that I am trying to cut too much at once.

    I always mulched.

If the grass was too high, I would cut it on a higher setting then go back over it at the lower (normal) height.

I’ve always wondered this as well.

So what’s the opinion if your yard has crabgrass/clover/etc? Do you bag it until you can kill everything, then go back to mulching?

I pull out all the unwanted growth by hand, and mulch every time.

My front yard went from this nice first picture (a year after it was planted three years ago) with no weeds, beautiful and nice. It was sprayed in (Hydroseed)and I didn’t have the best soil underneath.

To the next picture - which you can’t see very well, but it’s loaded with clover and other crap! And certain areas just didn’t “grow thick” this year. Lots of yellow areas. Which is why I was asking about over-seeding every year. I did “patch up” areas with good soil mixed with seed and the dead areas are doing good.
I weed and feeded this year a few times, and also ran a tow-behind dethatcher (last picture of back yard - and I think it helped). A lot of weeds died after weed and feed but not all the clover.
I did a lot of spot-treatments on the crabgrass/clover - which sucked because it’s 3/4 acre that wraps around my entire house.

I just can’t seem to get it “beautiful”.
VERY frustrating. After last winter - I wasn’t even sure if it would come back it looked so bad!!!
The local nursery said to spread a couple dump trucks loads of good soil blend and work it in. Well that’s a HUGE pain in the ass!!
(The grass in background was just planted - that will be field grass that only gets mowed a few times a year)

What about aerating? I haven’t done that yet and see mixed reviews.

Do you guys with big yards really take care of it like you would a small yard?

U can take the guy out of the garage, But U can’t take the garage out of the guy
    Not many yet, mostly stock.
I got green weeds and a 100 year old maple tree that over shadows the lawn with pile of leaves each week the size of a VWBug...

Nothing spectacular, just a SCAG 61” cut. I like to mow at about 4.5” twice a week. Mowing taller seems to cut down on the weeds. I always start in the same spot, and mow the same direction every time to help with the stripes. Mower had around 30hrs in this picture, I take care of my stuff. 96E9444E-4FF0-4E5F-86F2-D0C9B3335493.jpg
