It wasn't nearly that expensive when she bought it for me......they escalate in price relatively quickly. Look up the prices on the big millenium falcon and the star destroyer!!!! The limited edition sets are collector items for sure

It must have been about 1972 when I received a large box of legos for my birthday. There must have been 5000 pieces that were in a plastic bag inside a plain big brown box, about 18" each side. NO Instructions, guides, etc. I was left to my imagination. There were platforms, big wheels and small wheels, all with metal axles and outer rubber treads, gears, blocks that were angled and smooth that worked great for a roof on a building, etc. We would build houses and garages and incorporate our hot wheels into the fun, or just build a truck and then build a camper that went above the cab was longer than the bed. Race cars, demolition derby cars, patterns, whatever. Always thought that the kits they sell today that are specific to one build are just a waste.

I have tons and tons of Legos from when I was growing up. I used to buy them for my daughter so we could do them together. Then she got to the point where she didn't need me to help... :(

I really want the Lego Typewriter but I can't justify spending that much for it. The sets have become so advanced but I do miss the days when you had to work with the Lego shapes you had, now they are constantly printing special shapes to make the models look better. Still kickass though.

I enjoyed the builds on the Lego show but I can't handle the host so I stopped watching it. Maybe if I mute and fast-forward...

They do still sell boxes of just straight Lego without specific instructions. Called Lego “creator” or something like that.

I love Lego sets but have zero time for them any more. Still working on my Mercedes Arocs 8x4 rig (42043) from when Toys R Us was still in business. Volvo L350F (42030) and Mack Anthem (42078) waiting in the closet, hope they can wait another decade.

Thanks! I had 2-3 catastrophic falls and total rebuilds before I came up with the idea. This model is by far the most fun I have had building legos and it is extremely well built. However, it requires major disassembly if the internals get popped out of place to get it right.

The shelf is made from a single piece of pine.

The rocket engines are a sketchy base as the center engine protrudes ever so slightly. Building the 'launch pad' was key. Also, the scale astronauts next to the engine bells is a good conversation piece. I also ordered enough parts to build a second orbiter.

Duuuuuuuuude !! that is awesome !!

would you be able to share a better, more readable parts list for the launch pad please?

i had considered building the actual "launch platform" that holds the rocket prior to launch, not sure if that is the right name, but that may be a lot. your launch pad seems more doable and enough to hold it stable... i like it !!

We had that boat when I was a kid. I suspect most of the pieces are still somewhere around my parents'.

I got it as a kid too... I found it in a box of stuff, mostly complete. I could still build it from memory. I filled in the missing pieces eventually. Bricklink.com is awesome.

The voltron takes me back and the rocket is badass. I had the opportunity to see the real thing on its side at NASA Kennedy space Center and the scale of the thing is just mind blowing.

I had this set as a kid (circa 1983-4) and found a complete set on the web and couldn't pass it up.
    The "Auto Chassis"

    38035 (1).jpg 38036 (1).jpg 38038 (1).jpg 38098.jpg 38129 (1).jpg 38130 (1).jpg

I build with my kids all the time. I told them this was the set I built when I was their age... Amazing it's still relevant and cross-generational.

My kids are big into them as I was as a kid. They rekindled my spark for them. I’d love to get my hands on the Saturn V. I’m asking for the Bond DB5 for Christmas and maybe the Lamborghini set would be in my future.

I got the Saturn V for Christmas last year. Going to start dropping hints for the space shuttle for this Christmas.

I may be a grown man with a healthy income, but I have to wait for Christmas for my legos.

You asked about this one right as I am building it. From a price to value ratio, this one is very good. Strongly recommend it.

Two 30 gal. totes sitting here, lots of fun with the kiddos. Will be keeping all of them in the family. Our favorite was the roller coaster set. 2 full days, kept it assembled for nearly 3 months.

I’m a Technic nerd…especially the cranes. I built the blue lattice boom crane a couple years ago, then bought $150 worth of extra parts and redid it entirely remote control.

The Mack Anthem is a good set. I rebuilt it into a dump truck with a snow plow.

we have almost all of the city block buildings- we would get the kids one or two every year for Christmas. There are literally six rubbermaid totes full of bricks in my basement that I need to sort through this winter.

My favorite so far - over 4000 pieces and over 3’ tall with the boom extended.

I decided to try something new.....ordered this set off of Amazon. It is essentially a knock off lego brand - BUT have been extremely surprised about the build quality, size and degree of difficulty. It is a ton of pieces and very well constructed. I am going to ask for another (probably the F1 car) for Christmas......

I never really had legos as a kid. Too damn expensive. I had one little car kit that I took apart repeatedly and put back together.

If I had a kid I would definitely buy buckets of legos "for them". They are fun and I think are good for the brain.

Same boat. I had one kit that I assembled so many times that the pieces don't fit tight anymore. My kids have dozens.
