If you have none of the four buttons on your Tundra, adding this should enable much of the functionality of the center display.

Fuel Cut or whatever it's called that slows the truck down when coasting. Seems overly aggressive. Often feels like my brakes are automatically engaging.

Is that something that's on all 2nd gen Tundras or specific years?

Not sure. I have a 2008. It was the first thing I noticed when I got it.

Mines an '07 and I have noticed it doesn't coast when letting off the gas as well as anything else I've driven. Is that what you're talking about?

That's exactly it. It kicks in about a second or so after I let up on the gas. From my understanding it's supposed to help with fuel economy, but I don't know if it really helps because I just want to let the truck coast at 45/50 on the street. The feature prevents that because it slows down so quickly that I end up just feathering the pedal to keep it at my desired speed.

My son has a 2003 F150 Heritage with a 7.5" lift and 35s. I drove it today (my 08 is getting a lift installed today) and it was really nice just being able to coast and not feel like I'm always on the pedal.

I like this feature. But my last vehicle was a manual and I'm use to the vehicle falling on its face when letting off the throttle. I haven't researched anything about it but my best guess was it's part of the trucks programming for towing/hauling (even without the button pushed). My 13 will aggressively downshift as if it's trying to engine brake if I'm off the throttle long enough. It's REALLY noticeable with tow/haul active.

    Again didn't research though.

This isn't the towing/hauling mode as there's no downshift (no change in RPM from a shift) or brake assist at all, nor is it hill/decline based. Happens on flat road as soon as I let up on the gas.

I just used to put mine in neutral going down hills or other situations where it could roll or coast. I used to do that on some automatics too. I haven't tried it on the Tundra yet.

I did that when I was expecting to actually stop. I was referring to only letting off the throttle.

I definitely miss the control of a manual transmission. The trans is one of my biggest complaints about the tundie. It's so slow and can't make up its mind in lower gears.

I recently picked up a Boss Audio B3950WCPA. I normally prefer Kenwood or Alpine, but I wanted to try wireless Android Auto without having to spend $1200 so I went with the Boss for $349. It does everything I need to and runs wireless Android flawlessly. I thought I would need an amp, but the internal amps are doing fine pushing Pioneer 4-way 6x9s and 6" 2-way for my listening tastes. I'll still probably add one once I recover from all the other upgrades.

That was the other reason why I upgraded. The wife and son got new cars a couple of years ago which have nice displays and backup camera. I finally got sick of the factory stereo and joined the club lol.

I was used to mirrors in my 02 Tacoma and my 17 Tacoma has a backup camera and decent speakers so it’s nice.

2011 Toyota Tundra SR5 Texas Edition (Crewmax)
I have a 2011 SR5 Crewmax that I bought in Oct. 2019 that had 114K miles at the time. I had a 1995 Chevy Tahoe prior to this truck, so my Tundra is a cavalcade of modern technology and conveniences by comparison, and my Tundra is easily the nicest and newest 4 wheeled vehicle that I've ever owned. (The truck I had prior to the '95 Tahoe was an '88 Chevy 1500 regular cab long bed. You could use the gas gauge as a fan). I haven't had much exposure to more modern convenience offerings, so my comparisons to gauge likes/dislikes may not be quite as versed or informed as the majority of members here.

I didn't have any sort of JBL system/components, but I did upgrade my stereo to a Kenwood DNX996XR and replaced all of the speakers. (I don't have an amp/sub setup yet, but I'm working on it). My backup camera is in the rear view mirror, and I kind of like having it there vs having it onscreen on the HU. I am not an audiophile by any means, but I do like my music, and I do prefer a better sound than what the stock system had to offer. Now I have wireless CarPlay, Vehicle Information (via Maestro II), Garmin navigation (that I do use, but it is rare), and much better sound quality and very granular control over the output.

I don't have the AC recirc issue that I've seen others report. Mine seems to stay engaged the entire time that it is set. When I first got my truck, I did note that the overall airflow through the vents seemed to be lacking. I changed out my cabin filter, which was unbelievably nasty, and that resolved that issue. Airflow is strong through the vents now. Fan speeds are subtle changes between 1-3, then more pronounced at 4-6.

There is more storage in this truck than any of my previous vehicles (unless you consider the back end of the Tahoe "storage" space. I didn't), so I have don't have a complaint there.

The A pillar does make a moderate blind spot, especially with corners and curves in the road. I find myself having to move around a bit to get visibility when turning/cornering left. I do, however, like having the grab rail/handle there to help getting in and out of the truck.

Changing the oil is kind of a pain in the ass with that skid plate. I get the design as far as placement, but removing and replacing that thing is annoying. (I got some ramps that really helped with that process, but it also adds a couple of steps to the process with having to pull up on the ramps, remove the skid plate, back off the ramps and let the truck set for a few minutes, then drain the oil, replace the filter, refill the oil, get back up on the ramps, then replace the skid plate). But that is probably just me being bitchy. I am limited as to what I can work on with a car/truck, so I may not have encountered some potentially annoying designs associated with mechanical maintenance with this truck. Hopefully, I don't either! LOL

Maybe it’s just me but if the seatbelts in the back aren’t clipped to the pillar they rattle non stop. Drives me crazy.

I thought I was the only crazy one. This drives me crazy. I just resorted to keeping the rear belts buckled 24/7

We have kids so the seatbelts are always used and then left haphazardly for me to pull over on the side of the road to fix on my way to work every. single. day.

    1)MPG's
2)The remote start only works from like 20 feet away and kills when you unlock the doors aaahhhhhhhhhh!
3)The air speed of the a/c is not enough to keep up with Louisiana summers.
4)That coasting slow down crap feature.
5)The fact that I have a 26 gallon tank but can only use 20 of them.
All that being said I love my Tundra and the good far outweighs the bad and the competition.

Another '08 owner noticing that "slow down crap" feature lol. I wonder if it's still there in later model Tundras, particularly Gen 3? And yeah, the A/C is pretty bad. It's like each increment before the max has almost no noticeable increase, and then max jumps up 50% over the prior setting, but is still barely 70% of what it probably should be.

I haven't noticed this "slow down feature" and I generally like to coast to a stop from as far out as I reasonably can. I do think the brakes are a little weak for a truck this heavy, though.

It's Fuel Cutoff or something like that. There's a discussion about it higher up in the thread from last week in case you missed it. And since you have a later model I'm even more convinced it's no longer a feature. And there's no way I could make it to a stop if I let up on the pedal from a distance as the feature would have me well into the 20s too quickly and probably would even be crawling to the stop. It's aggravating.

Yeah, sorry, I should have been more clear that I was trying to answer your question. I have a 2020 and don't notice this. So they probably changed something in the tuning/programming in 2014 or 2018.

That was me realizing too late that you were giving an answer. In which case, I just updated my reply right before you posted again so now I've caused a mismatch in what you quoted me lol.

Haha! Just last night I was slowly backing into my dark driveway and my radio turned on—full blast— scared the crap outta me. I’m too cheap to replace the head unit and, until Black Friday, just use my Anker Bluetooth speaker, which is almost as good as the stock sound system...

Might be something you want to replace if it just turns on full blast. Especially at night
