Ah, didnt know if it had to be in the vehicle with you to get it to start using the push button.

One bad thing about using the app is they will start recording your driving habits and give you a "driving score". I've got a "80" with 86 hard accelerations, 240 harsh cornerings and 17 harsh braking. I was failing for a while.... :)

How someone could "jump in" your remotely started vehicle with the doors locked (it will NOT remote start without the doors locked) and drive away without the key fob is beyond me. Even if they did I'm sure someone in their infinite wisdom could make a requirement to push the start button with the key in proximity to act like turning a regular key.

This shutting off feature when the doors open is not new to the push to start Toyota's, they have been doing it for years on other traditional keyed Toyota's. My 2016 4runner included

If you unlock the vehicle to get in........................................... and it remained running. No one said anything about getting into a locked running vehicle.

I spoke with the guys at ESP, and unfortunately the 3-bin option is not compatible with the 2020s due to the location of the antenna wire for the smart key. They do have a long, locking box option, which unfortunately is triple the price. Sweet looking box though, I just really have no need for a heavy duty locking box since I have a Diamondback Cover.

The app is really nice now that its all been combined into Toyota Connect. You can unlock, lock, and start your truck from literally anywhere that has cell signal of wifi. You do have to pay for the service, but it's free for a bit at first.

And I don't know who set the thresholds for this, but this gives me a harsh cornering just for turning on to the freeway on-ramp. Thankfully they don't give this info to anyone, or so they say.

With most remote start systems, if you press the brake pedal to put it in gear it will shut the motor off. Unless you turn the key to ON, or press the Start button with FOB in range. I don't have any experience with the Toyota system, just the Tech12volts and other brand OEM ones. So it is not possible to get the car in gear and drive away unless you have the key in the ignition, or FOB in range and press Start.

That is how it works with the keys but all the push starts cut off when you unlock the door. At least all of them I've seen or read about. Nothing you can do about it or program around it. My wife's 16 highlander is the same.

Yeah, ive heard that about the Toyota ones. That's pretty lame. My dad's F150 stays running, and has keyless.

You just said a Ford stays running.... Not sure I believe you.:monocle:

All in all, I'd love to have remote start on my truck. Wouldn't care if it shut off when I opened the door cuz it'd be warm/cool when I got there. Beats the hell out of running out to start it at 5:15 in the morning when it's 10 below zero to start it up. I'd much rather do that from inside the house.

HA, yeah me and him have friendly banter about our trucks.

You're right, it wouldn't be that terrible compared to the benefits. Just seems unnecessary and adds cycles to your starting system.

So without the key how do you propose you'd get into a running locked vehicle?

Yes, it's a Toyota (and some other manufacturers) thing, saying it can't be done is total BS

    #firstworldproblem for sure. Lol

There was a thread recently about a DIY option for storage under the seat if you run a search.

I too have the Diamondback cover so I don’t necessarily need a bunch of locking storage space inside the cab but I did want a small gun safe. The options were the console safe or the long locking under seat storage safe. Both were pretty expensive options for anything decent. I went a bit more custom and put a small safe in that dead space there and it was less than a couple hundred bucks. So I’m sure you could get creative and add space that would work best for your needs.

No one has done it. Pretty much the same thing. You can try if you like. Good luck. It is either too complicated give the engineering or its not "do able".

Lol if that's the case they could do that to anyone regardless if your vehicle was running or not. They still need your keys to drive off in your vehicle

Can't be that hard, ford can do it. Here's a Chevy. Fast forward to 4 minutes

Why would they need the key fob? Its already running without your key fob......

I just shared a video showing that Ford cuts off their vehicles upon entry for safety reasons. Yes. They have a work around. If you want to find one for Toyota share it with fortin or 12volt. I'm sure they'd use it.

If Chevy can do it I'm sure Toyota can. See my video above

Because, like almost any other vehicle made, you need to depress the brake pedal to shift out of park, this is what kills the engine without the key in the vehicle and either pushing the start button or turning a physical key to the run position.

This isn't a hard concept, and how shutting the engine off when you open the door is any safer is beyond me

I agree with you, not wanting to and can't are 2 different things. I'm just annoyed that for 6 months when I remote start my tundra a few times a day I have to double the times my starter needs to start my dam truck

Toyota kills it upon unlocking the vehicle. That is the routine they've built. They're not alone. Ford does/did it. VW does it. Others do it. Its not just Toyota.

Still a ton less use of the starter than all these stop and start vehicles.

I've gotten use to mine. I don't like the 10 minute run limit worse.

The truck would shut off after pressing the brake to change gears.
