Hi, just traded in my F-150 Platinum for a 2020 Tundra Platinum. Glad to get away from the unreliable ecoboost and to the Tundra V8. Unfortunately I was in a rush at the dealer which is over an hour from my house and have a few questions.

    1. Loved my remote start on the Ford, I work very early and like to unfreeze the rig in the morning. Does the Tundra Platinum have that outside of the poorly reviewed app? If not, What’s the best way to add that?

    2. I want to keep the factory head unit, but would like to upgrade the audio system. In my Ford I added a nice JL amp, a lcq9interface, an 8inch sub, and Focal Speakers. Sounded fantastic. Are members of this forum having success going a similar route?

Thanks in advance, On and here she is

Welcome, nice rig you got there.

there are a few vendors on here than can likely help w your needs check out tech12 for a remote start. They sell a plug and play unit that most anyone can install in a couple hours.
I’ve been looking into audio solutions and *********.com seems to be the easiest solution when if you want a one stop location, they build kits specifically for your tundra body style and have lots of great feedback

As said, there is a remote start that you can install and lots of options on head unit and better amps. Tech12 and any very good audio stores would be good to consult with, depending if you wanted to do install or not.

For truly great sound head unit must be removed and thrown in trash!

Yup but whats up with shutting down the engine when the user unlocks the door???

Still trying to figure out the logic on that one! Anyone got ideas?

Luck and enjoy those Toyotas. : ^ ))))

Unfortunately with the 2020 and push button start it doesn’t matter if you add the aftermarket remote start module. The truck will still shut down when the door is opened according to the tech12volts website.

Welcome from Ohio. Great choice with MGM. As stated, there's factory remote start using your key fob. It WILL unlock as soon as you touch the door handle. What i've been told is there's no work around this and it is what it is. At least it still heats up! Great choice moving from Ford to Toyota!

Thanks for this. I too traded in my f150 for a 2020 Tundra. My dealer told me the app was the only way to remote start the truck.

The sales guys know almost nothing when it comes to the features... the guys on this forum will be much more helpful...press lock 3 times and hold on the 3rd, your taillights will blink twice... keep holding...BOOM remote start

Yes, my 2020 Limited CrewMax has the push button start and remote start works with the 3 button push, it’s also in the owners manual, I had to read it to find it

Thanks for all the replies......the remote start works perfectly! Unfortunately my sales kid was under informed, but they had the rig I wanted at the price point that made sense.

Adjusting nicely, I will say that the Tundra Feels bigger and rides more like a truck than my F150 Platinum did. I’ll get used to that, a bit more stiffer ride and you feel the road more.

I will probably see if the local tire shops will give me a good credit for the stock tires with 100 miles on em, and upgrade to a better quality tire (tires only, I dig the wheels). Tire thread guys seem to like the Coopers.

One thing I am confused with....why is there no room under the rear seats? Makes no sense to me. Makes storage and after market audio more of a challenge.

If you pick a sound solution- POST IT. I am still trying to figure out what I want to do.

You are not the first and won’t be the last to ask about the damn rear seat. There’s a platform of styrofoam back there, covered in carpet. You have some great aftermarket options that are fairly quick to install. Check out the options from ESP. I have the 3-bin and I like it. You can also customize something to your personal needs. There is space there.

    Not nearly enough room here!
Well, it's a pretty darn sad day in America when people who drop $40-60 K on a vehicle, have to read the Owner's Manual!

Up sizing your tires (more sidewall) makes it ride better. I went to 275/65/20 and found it made a difference. Also filled out the wheel wells nicely. The shutting off when you open the door is so stupid and annoying as hell when loading kids into the truck and it's -20 or -30 and you just want the heat to stay blasting.

So that if you remote start your truck while you're in somewhere someone cant just jump in and drive away with it?

With the push button now, there is nothing stopping someone from pulling away if they jump in after you unlock it to get in. The after market one's that allowed you to unlock and keep it running had the key that you had to turn to the running position before you could take off. All of Toyota's push button starts work this way now.

Yes it's inconvenient to shut off, but someone jumping into your truck and taking off is way worse. If Toyota let it keep running they'd eventually be on the hook for replacing people's truck when it was stolen after using the remote start.

if you're going to be buying a remote start from james at tech12volt, you may as well buy the audio gear there as well. he's awesome.

Does the key not have to be in the truck at the same time for the push button to work?

By the way, the app works well and you should use it for the trial period you get for free. The cost is already in the price you paid. You can start your vehicle from anywhere it has a signal. Just not the distance your remote can send a signal.

Mine will start without the key fob inside. You get the start signal from the key fob or the app. I can leave mine running and get out with the key fob in my pocket. I do it all the time at the gas pump. Just beeps at me for a short period of time.
