It is, not about the tundra but the other EVs and its horrible 24 hours to get a full charge and you can drive 200 miles and the battery replacement can go for as much as 15000 maybe more I'm sure Toyota it's going to be better but give me my gas , 375 miles fill it up 5 minutes and another 375 and so on and so on . Electric is good if you don't go anywhere.

I work for the local utility. This can’t be overstated. No one is listening. Remember Texas a few months ago- or any major populated area during heat waves. It isn’t just CA.

It is one thing to set up local, charging stations. That can be done. If everyone is going to start charging at home…..at night…..let’s just say this- you may wanna look into standby generators. There will be way more service interruptions.

Also- the less people that drive internal-combustion vehicles- the less taxes that are recovered from gas taxes. Those taxes are used for roads.

Many local governments are looking into mileage-based fees to offset the loss in revenue. If that happens- I see a hesitancy to adopt electric. It is much more affordable for people to pay a gas tax when they fill then to pay another tax bill annually.

The elites don’t want electric cars for all. They want electric cars for them, buses for the rest

i wouldn’t mind an electric motorcycle around town though

Lots of excuse making in this thread. Yes it won't be cheap to upgrade our grid, yes it'll be complex and require years of work and involve millions of man hours by engineers, scientists, state and federal governments, and trade workers. Will it be worth it in the end? I think so. As you said, Texas and Cali grids are garbage today and need modernizing for now and the future. But oh no it'll be hard...so is everything that has benefited this country. Stop whining about the complications and try and help with the solution...or just stop whining.

There is a solution. Fossil fuels. Destroying the land in 3rd world countries to mine their rare earth minerals isn’t compassionate

Sort of like the cart before the horse. Before all manufacturers start jumping on the EV maybe they should wait till they get the grid up to or at least closer to the task. All these EV’s are going to roll out and there is not going to be enough supply. At a point, no one is going to buy one because the electric supply will be unreliable. Hybrids , at the most PHEV, should be the way to go for the near future as the grid is built up. It will take a couple decades for it to be built up. By the way, most of the rest of the world won’t be using electric vehicles. This is just like the other great ideas some have. They feel they are smarter, more sophisticated, and have all the greatest ideas. But, in reality they can’t even change a light bulb and make a sheet show of everything.

Lmao we need a new grid today not for an electric fleet vehicles. Get off your soap box. Population increases and a more modern lifestyle has folks using more than the grid can handle. But since we need to upgrade the system, why not future proof it a bit?

Drivers suck here in Denver. You'd be lucky to survive a day riding an EV motorcycle around town let alone crossing the street on foot...

The only time I wish I had an EV is when I’m in the gas line at Costco. And when I see the total after filling up.

I was thinking I wanted an electric plug in, but just did the math, in CT kwh is .21 cents so it would be around $3 to charge a rav4 prime to get 40ish miles. Gas is just over 3 now sure I would save some if it goes up but electric could too.. Maybe when I get to a permanent home I'll get a solar setup and then it'll make $$$ sense.

Yea EV doesn't make sense to me at the electric rates they charge in some states. Here in TX it's like 8 or 9 cents a kwh so EV would be cheap here. But then again, so is gas......

Do you have any idea what it takes to generate electricity at the capacity necessary to supply customers each day? There is no way in hell that could be free. All these people with opinions on how the electrical grid should be run and how we should generate electricity, and most of them don’t have a dam clue how electricity is even generated.

A 20 mile round trip to work for 5 days in a hybrid rav4 will take approximately 2.5 gallons. A riding lawn mower will use that much cutting an acre of yard one time. If I were Toyota I would stay mainly on the hybrid / plug in hybrid path for the next 20 yrs. The big 3 aren’t even close to Toyota’s hybrid tech.

    Too many, but not enough....
Gas isn't going anywhere for an absolute minimum of 100 years. 3 reasons.

    1. Airplanes. You need a battery the size of a building to get an airplane off the ground.
    2. Mass freight. Can't have big rigs stopping every 4 hours for half a day to recharge. They already don't sleep to make their times.
    3. Every country on the planet that isn't usa, Europe and Japan. You really think 80% of the world will go from knuckle dragging villages with no reliable electricity grid and no running water to an electric vehicle? They still have 100 years of development to go and haven't even reached the ICE engine yet.

Airplanes burn jet fuel and big rigs burn diesel.
