Governments forcing the automotive industry to radically change course just so the politician can score points & votes is wrong, I don't see consumers demanding EV's - I see politicians trying to kill off the automotive industry.

    You forgot theses:
    • temp extremes of hot or cold are hell on batteries
    • extremely expensive to the point of needing subsidies to be viable
    • batteries are toxic and require special disposal
    • limited resources to make the batteries will make prices increase as demand goes up

traveling south NH to FL this week. There are charging stations EVERYWHERE. And many of the service area that didn’t have them were literally in the process of having them installed. Challenging my boys to the task of figuring the logistics of driving north to south in an EV and planning charge stops and range. Definitely doable without any difficulty.

Come to Wyoming. The world/country is a lot bigger than the east coast bubble.

Lithium has to be strip mined. But it's ok because it happens in third world countries. As long as no one in Canada is mining oil sands, we'll save the planet.

I did last year. NH to Louisiana north to Utah Idaho and throughly your great state (Wyoming is awesome as I’m sure you know pulled a guy out of a big rig on the edge of a cliff on the big horn pass) and back across the top of the country that was like 27 states we hit I think. The country is a lot bigger than your Wyoming bubble. Haha.

    https://chargehub.com/en/countries/united-states/wyoming.html

honestly I don’t care. It’s just an observation. I’m neither for or against EV. I have a 2021 highland hybrid and a 2021 tundra. So not relying on EV.

I've seen as many charging stations here as I have gas stations selling E85.

Let's see how good those charging stations are after a good hurricane has passed through and there isn't power for weeks! Most of us I am betting don't live near the interstate where you find most of those at the present time.

The fossil fuel pumps are powered by something other than that same electricity?

And then there's Missouri. They have a few in some cities, and one at a Bandana's BBQ in Rolla...and then there are 115V plugs everywhere. LOL

Interior? CA can't keep the lights on now when unexpected events like "summer" happen. Who's the Flintstones then?

All of these issues are being addressed. From research into more efficient batteries into recycling materials and so forth. Of course the prices going down year after year. Again, the only true negative I can see is lack of exhaust noise but that’s purely aesthetic.

The prices are still not low enough to be affordable without being subsidized.

Don't get me wrong, I think EVs will eventually be the thing, but I think it's being pushed too quickly and for false reasons. EVs are cool, but they just aren't at a practical level to 100% replace gas/diesel vehicles.

Turns a 2 day drive into 3 days though with the charging. That's the biggest issue right now, it's not that it can't be done, it's that it adds considerable amount of time due to charging. And that's if you're going solo, start adding weight in any form and range goes down.

Add hills, headwinds, etc. It's just not a feasible replacement.... yet. They will get there eventually, but I don't think I'll see it in my car buying lifetime.

I took it as a continuation of the charging station issue per reading the ones above. I could be wrong though... If "interior" was referring to the truck and not the continent then mea culpa, I apologize!

It will happen this decade. The technology and processes are moving rapidly. Tundras are already in the range of over 50k, heck some Tacoma’s are mid 45K so price is really not an issue with Americans purchasing trucks. 1000 mile range with quick charge will not surprise me. And imagine the torque? Hills and headwinds be dammed.

Actually, where I live, in NY state, gas stations are required to have generators so they can pump fuel during a prolonged electricity outage. Generators which run on the same fossil fuel that they sell.

I have no objection to electric cars for people who are satisfied with the limited range and wait times for charging and the various and sundry other complaints. I simply can't see one being practical for me at this point. Some day, if batteries get better and cheaper and charging stations are ubiquitous and almost as fast as filling a gas tank, then they will be a good idea. For now I am interested in the plug-in hybrid concept. If I can charge my vehicle overnight at home when I am only driving short distances, and then run the gasoline engine for longer drives, then I will be satisfied.

Of course there is still the issue of which type of vehicle is truly less harmful to the environment over the life of the vehicle. At this point I believe the mining of rare earth, building of the vehicle, generation of electricity, and the disposal of the worn out electric vehicle is at least as harmful to the environment as the total pollution created by building, using, and disposing of a gasoline powered vehicle.

Personally, I think the 'Jetsons' concept is far more appealing. If batteries and charging are eventually clean, cheap and easy then why not be flying around in a drone instead of requiring more infrastructure (roads and bridges) to be built and maintained? If we can build self driving cars then we should be able to have self flying drones. Admittedly, it will be a long time before the technology is perfected, but it certainly seems possible.

You can fill a few gas cans to save for later. With electrical car that would be kinda difficult :D

Unless they create quick change out full batteries then EV's won't get down to reasonable times to have a full 100% charge. The quick charge figures you see at 30 minutes currently are only to 80%, it's over a couple hours to get to 100% charge. And the reason it won't get that much faster is because it's simply too much energy to transfer safely - it's not solely on the battery end that's the limit for getting that 80% charge. The 80 to 100% time can get better as that is on the battery.

So why should that apply to a Tundra EV?
And on a ICE Tundra you have to change the engine, transmission, differential oil, buy gas, etc.

I know I’m being mister contrarian here but as a proud Tundra owner myself I still really don’t see the downsides besides lack of exhaust noise and I guess... my man card being revoked? Some bring up environmental issues which are being addressed are not exclusive to just EV. Almost everything has an environmental impact.

But I’ll stop and just rest my case.
