Is the hybrid really only good for the extra power? Is there no real exchange for MPG?

It would be useless. They would never see it. They spend all their time in the 3rd Gen thread lurking.

One I strip out all this back and forth lol, you’ve made this non-hybrid ‘22 owner jealous… better mpgs and speed off the line… just going to remind myself the wait would have been 4-6mo longer

Are these trucks really that hard to find? I when truck shopping last week and found mine on the lot ready to go. Was the only one that had.

Thats not what my TIP sensor says.

Just because the manifold is in vacuum does not mean the turbos are not generating pressure greater than ambient everywhere before the manifold. The throttle plate ultimately determines manifold pressure

they were earlier in the year. car market as a whole is cooling substantially. SR5’s were going for msrp and now you might be able to get a few thousand off. At least I paid 2022 msrp!

Alright gang, thank you to everyone who commented. I ended up pulling the trigger on a hybrid. Thankfully, patience paid off and just so happened that I have an upgraded trim available for me this weekend! Thanks all!

I did the same the other night. Haven't tried the non hybrid but IFMax is super responsive and all the power I could have wanted out of a half ton truck.

I’ve got the hybrid and have driven both. You don’t buy a new tundra to save money. Trucks are expensive right now. The hybrid is a superior driving experience overall when compared to the gas model. If I had not gotten the hybrid I would have just ended up trading in for one in the long run.

Toyota clearly states the hybrid was designed solely to improve the towing experience. No additional MPG or power will be experienced. There's no improved 0-60, etc.

If anything the additional weight of the batteries is negating any positive effect it has on situational mpg. One could probably drive in a manner to maximize the hybrids assistance and eek out some extra MPG’s. But agree that it was added from a performance, not efficiency standpoint.

that’s not accurate, there is quite a bit more power and torque, and bit better mileage.

these numbers are straight from Toyota https://www.toyota.com/tundra/

I’ve driven a couple of the hybrids , not in tow mode , was like driving a Toy. Lots of power . Kind of easy to say no to a hybrid because my right foot lacks discipline .

Signed up for my safe driver auto insurance discount in hopes to discipline myself, but only used it during break-in and haven’t used the app since lol.

I have that same program through Geico . On my test drives with hybrid it took me off my streak lol . Too many rapid accelerations through turns

You should be more familiar with your truck cause I literally drove one for less than an hour and can disagree with all your statements . Hybrid is not for only towing . The new tundra is a parallel hybrid that is used In all Types of driving . From pure ev mode at slow speeds to assisted power acceleration in wot . It’s really an interesting system cause it departs Toyota normal hybrid operation . Even wet clutch that is used is amazing

Listen, I am not going to argue with you. I had a 2022 non-hybrid that had some issues. I traded it 2 months ago for a 2023 hybrid. I've driven both. I get the exact same MPG. In some situations the hybrid has more torque. But in real world driving and hard acceleration there is no discernable difference. However, when towing the hybrid does a fantastic job of assisting and making the load feel like less of a burden for certain. I'm not knocking the hybrid. I love mine. But I am a realist.

That blows my mind that you've owned both TTv6 and hybrid Tundras and can't tell any difference in the driving except when towing. I've owned both as well (had a TTv6 for a few thousand miles while waiting for my allocation to come in). The acceleration between the two is night and day, IMO.

I've owned a 22 Tundra Limited CM-TRD OR 6.5 Bed with TTV6. It drove nice, the engine/trans combo was very good no complaints, but for me something missing. I did see while on long road trip a couple of tanks at just over 24MPG in flatland. I also installed a Dirty Deeds Muffler that worked very well with no loss of low end torque.

My bias is I prefer tighter suspensions. Traded the 22 for a 23 TRD Pro Hybrid. The Hybrid is all together another level above the Limited TTV6. The OEM TRD Pro suspension matches my off the road and normal driving perfectly. Huge amounts of torque and it comes on at low RPM. You really should drive it to experience the difference. Just over 1850 Miles on it and I have very short daily work commute. I am happy with the MPG while on winter blend fuel and the daily short runs. It's settled at just over 16MPG around town. The few longer road runs keeping around 70 and its just over 20 MPG.

not questioning your statement but then why if it’s night and day is it not any faster as far as times I’ve seen posted?

The hybrid is at least 0.5 sec faster to 60. That’s a big difference.

It's not like there aren't downsides to having a hybrid requiring a large battery. Battery efficiency degrades over time, and if you hold on to the vehicle for a decade, will likely need replacing, at a pretty penny - especially as EVs are forced upon the market, increasing the demand/cost for battery materials and components.

I won't even get into the environmental and social issues created by strip-mining for lithium.

Correct. Toyota uses NMHD for a couple of reasons. First is NMHD batteries withstand temperature extremes better than lithium. Second is the supply chain already exists for nickel. Unfortunately, the refining of nickel is an extremely dirt, non-green process so in the end it still isn't an environmentally "good" approach.
