So you say it’s got two layers of steel that are threaded? If that’s the case and it’s spinning in 15 to 20 turns before it gets difficult, it sounds like it’s not starting on the second set of threads properly.

Try this. Spin them in until it starts to get difficult. Then back them out a few turns and get some weight on the area to sandwich the two metals together then see if they will thread in.

I second the idea of take the seat out and try to run them down. I had some issues with my back 2 wide bench seat. I had to end up sitting in it and wiggling my fat ass around until it clicked down.

Yeah I agree the seat out might be the key to figuring out what it’s going to take to get them to thread in properly. Once you get that down then try it with the seat.

Are you leaving all the other bolts loose? I found that sometimes you must still be able to wiggle the seat a tiny bit to get all of the bolts in place, and then torque them down once everything is ready.

Are all 4 bolts the same length, if not then the two short once may be for the back. If they're the same length then try each bolt on each thread to see which one screws in loosely without much effort. Most bolts should screw in almost half the length before needing the help of a ratchet tool.

I would never use a impact on anything on my truck, that's just me. Hell I don't like using a cordless other than taking out or screwing them back in till you can hand tight the rest of the way. As mentioned above I would look for shavings or debris in the threads. Run a tap down them, Tap Magic works well with drilling and tapping. If there stripped, move up 1 size and re-tap. Take all bolts down as you go. You got this Man:thumbsup:

If the bolts have a taperd end for the first few threads, those are self-tapping bolts. Because of the taper, they will go wrong a few threads before the real f'up begins.

The tapping plates on the body that they screw into are probably drilled but not tapped. During assembly, the tapping plates are threaded on assembly using self-tapping bolts. Because of this, expect the bolts to be tight in the threads. They will cut new threads if you get them cross-threaded, which is probably what is happening. As a previous post suggested, use a long extension on your socket to help you get them started right.

Edit: Oh...wait...15-20 TURNS!!! They're started straight...you got something else going on like @15whtrd said.

If bolts look good, get a tap and re-thread.

probably tap for new bolts too.

I had the same problem. The thread was fine.i had to give up and just say to my, self cross thread is better than no thread, I had to use an impact and it went in fine after about a quarter inch. No damage to the threads whatso ever. Iam guessing it just needs some torque to get going.Maybe it is some type of safety measure built in so the seats won't ever become loose unless some one puts enough torque on it to fully remove bolt and seat.

Just set a weight limit for passengers. 200lbs and up should be safe, less than that and they may fly out during braking.

I know your problem well! I removed the driver side rear seat to gain more storage space by removing the bolts that attach the seat base to the bracket. However, when I went to snug the bolts back in place after the seat was out I have the same problem! It's almost as if there is a loose piece under the bracket that the bolt threads on to. It may be necessary to remove the bracket, run the bolt through the seat base and then reattach the bracket to the floor.... However, I just left the bolt loose in the hole and stored the seat in the garage ;)

Why not run a tap in the hole to check/clean the threads.

This guy gets it. Working in a precision machine shop all day....I'd never use any impact on most parts of my vehicle, aside from suspension. Mighta fucked 'em from the get go. I'd get out the tap and die and go from there.

    TEXAS!
admittedly did not read all the prior posts; only skimmed.

but... on a crewmax, the 60 rear seat has 3 bolts with same thread pattern and 1 bolt with different pattern.

the inside rear bolt (middle of cab, but left rear (looking at back window) bolt of CM backseat is a course threaded bolt), while the other 3 (right rear (looking at back window) and front 2 are a fine thread.

    hope the above made sense.

just reinstalled the rear 60 seat of my CM after the jbl sub GB and noticed the difference (it was also mentioned in the GB installation post).

i am very careful to place the exact bolt in the original hole (that's what she said) when reinstalling anything. takes more time when disassembling, but i have a little bit of extreme OCD.

my wife kicked her skid plate bolts "out of the way" and mixed them all up while i was changing her oil (all laid out on ground the position in which removed) and i freaked out.

    uncomfortable dinner that evening.

hope this helps and good luck to ya.

Maybe this was already been asked but, do the bolts have any thread lock on them?

If so maybe your just reaching the thread lock on the threads and thats what is causing them to feel tight.

Other then that, i do know that getting them algined right can be a bit tricky sometimes.
