You didn't read anything from me about the greenhouse gasses. Matter of fact I said I wasn't a greenie.

I know what you are saying about shifting the emissions on electric vehicles. All they are doing is consolidating down the street at the electric plant. I have been saying that for years.

With that said, your cartoon doesn't really apply here. This is not being sold as a plug-in hybrid truck. This one is capturing some of the wasted energy from the truck. It is not relying on the energy grid so you are not shifting a portion of your pollution down the road

No worries, wasn’t directed at you or anyone. It’s quick satire and probably doesn’t apply here in the context presented as you said.

In fact, I’m more disturbed these days by how much unnecessary garbage we create, countries sending it back to 1st world nations. I contribute to it so just as guilty. But that’s another thread.

    I just bought a 19 so I am good for a while.

If the HP and torque are good in numbers I wouldn't care.

Look at 60s outboard to today and they are smaller but more HP

More than I care to remember what I told my wife I paid for
I'll be buying a new truck or SUV in about 12 years from now. Plenty of time to think about I will do next.

A Land Cruiser or the new Rivian electric truck would be my choice today.

Lucky to those who pay only $2.50/gallon on average. West Coast is $3.00 and up on average.

    New windshield wipers....just getting started
I like tech....when it's reliable. Who wants to go back to drum brakes, carbs, and no seat belts? However, my wife has a car with some of the latest and greatest tech....and she has more trouble with it than I've EVER had with my Tundra.

When Toyota brings their legendary reliability to a redesigned Tundra with a hybrid option...I'm all in. I've heard all the arguments about "if you buy a truck you don't buy mileage." However, it would be a win-win to have a great truck, great towing, AND great MPG's.

But, let's face it, we didn't buy the Tundra for the tech. It's a step up from my 2005 SUV, but no one would ever say it's "high tech." My next trade will likely be in 2027 with about 150k on the clock. By then we'll see if the new technology is as reliable. If so...I'm fine with a hybrid....IF it has a TRD Exhaust package! :mudding:

    Curse you Perry the Platypus!
You know, I'm not entirely opposed to a twin-turbo V6 engine in a Tundra as long as Toyota offers a TRD Exhaust package. Hear, hear!

I’m interested to see the next gen but will be happy with a 5.7 as my upcoming purchase to be....Though I bet a TRD Pro version won’t be available for years at probably a heavy upped price.

yep bank account is running low from it..
As long as Toyota has learned from Ford's Ecoboost failures and gm cylinder deactivate problem along with oil spray on pistons..

Unfortunately the days of 2jz engine are long gone of building a engine CORRECTLY and like a brick shit house...

Now build v6 twin turbo the way the 2jz engine was designed and built not only would you have a 400 hp plus engine you would be in the range of 700 hp with very little work..

Only down side I see is this . Turbo charger as 95 percent of public know very little in turbo operation from start up to shut down.. that said this board will be full of bad turbos failed to do oil starved bearings.

    My .02 on this.

Newbie Here, Thanks for the add.

I expect hybrids will beat out Cummins in less than 10 years. Watch the YouTube vids on the truck company Nikola. As far as Toyota Prius reliability, it’s stellar. The Tundra will do great as a hybrid, but I still want the V8 rumble.

Guess who won LeMans today, a Toyota Prius race car, I’m thinking research for the Tundra.

Im fine with turbos and hybrids, as long as they are paired to a v8. The main reason why i didnt buy ford ecoboost v6.

Theres no fixing an exhaust of a v6 or 4 cylinder engine. Unless you all really like those fart cans installed.

If I got 9mpg in my tundra I’d get rid of that shit in 2 seconds. Yeah the fuel mileage isn’t great at 14-15, but 9??

If Toyota puts that awful 3.5 in the new Tundra, then I'm definitely not ever buying one. I don't care if it's turbo charged or what it's alleged stats are. I owned a 2016 Tacoma, I don't even remotely trust Toyota's engineers anymore.

No clue. I drive highway and city. I missed the “in town” part of your 9mpg. If I got 9mpg outside of towing with a stock truck, I’d be taking my business elsewhere. I don’t mind getting 2-3mpg less than other trucks if it means reliability, but 10mpg and below is pure dogshit

I have a 4.7L Tundra and a 5.7L Tundra, so the natural progression would be a 6.7L Tundra.

I'd be for it. I use my truck as a mini van/family hauler/grocery getter. Different strokes for different folks. Most of my driving is around town so the benefit is there. Now I'd be interested to see what the ROI would be because I remember the Hybrid Yukon was somewhere around 40 years or so. Then yes, it's not worth it.

Those of you saying "f that I want the v8 rumble", really? Do you still have a rotary phone too? Change isn't bad. I bet a bunch of you will be butt hurt when they come out and blow you off when you race them. It's almost as bad as the DC v Crewmax thing. Now why would you want to race a full size pickup is beyond me too, but that's another topic for the guys that buy their underwear from VS.

The down side to turbo is that they are a maintenance item. Most people don't understand that. They have to be changed. Now you can extend the service life, but the brass tac is it's eventually going to fail. If you educate yourself, which most of the public wont, then you can minimize your issues.

I’ve never heard of a turbo being changed unless it somehow blows up and that’s usually from a huge tune on diesels. I’m not sure why turbos get a bad rep though. They are in diesels that run millions of miles. I’m excited to see what Toyota brings though

Navistar lists the turbo as a maintenance item. We blow thru them constantly at work. I've heard that Ford lists it as one too, or has said that it only lasts 120k-150k, on the EcoBoosts before they are shot.

Its funny, you can always tell the old guys from the young guys in these threads
In my case, it really doesn't matter what the next gen Tundra ends up being, I know I won't be buying one simply because I hang onto my cars for a long time and don't upgrade just because there is something newer available. I bought my '15 Tundra knowing it will probably be the last truck I ever buy. By the time it dies, I might be dead too or at least at a point in life where I'll have no need for another truck
Change and evolution are inevitable but that doesn't automatically make them good. Change for the sake of change usually isn't good but you really have to judge each change on it's own merit and you often have to wait years to see what the real effect of that change is.
Umm, no. Engineers are just people who can fuck things up just like anyone else plus those engineers still take input from upper management (who may know nothing about engineering), accountants who only care about the bottom line and government regulations that often make things worse.
You would loose that bet. ;)
I'm a child of the 70's and I had that exact game as a kid. It was made by Radio Shack.
I've had just about ever game console from the pong game shown above to an Atari 2600, the original Nintendo up to the latest Xbox. No doubt the latest gen consoles have some incredible capabilities, graphics and game options but IMO, for pure gaming fun, nothing beats Atari's pure simplicity of one button and a joystick
Perfect example of how change isn't always good. You young ones laugh at the 8-track but they were actually pretty good and much better IMO then then the cassette decks that replaced them.

So yes, like it or not change is coming and often it can be good. I do think the majority of people would like to see better fuel efficiency but we'll have to see how Toyota tackles it? I do have more faith in Toyota then I do the "Big Three" but Toyota is not infallible. Either way, I think they would be wise to at least offer a standard NA V8 option (Like Ford does with the 5.0) for those who aren't ready or interested in jumping on board "with the future"

I don’t like it either, but the fact is that naturally-aspirated power plants are going the way of the dodo bird. If a person is in the market for a new 1/2 ton truck, very soon now buying a NA power plant won’t be an option.

You'll still be able to buy a big naturally-aspirated V-8, it'll just have to have a GVWR over 8500 lbs...
