I have an 18 tacoma. Waiting to see the next tundra. I have no interest whatsoever in a 3.5 turbo or hybrid. A 5L turbo and I,m on board. Still would prefer a NA 5.7 V8. Will end up with whichever brand still has NA v8 option. Or just pick up a late model low miles in great shape, go through it and be done.

Same here. I would rather pay the difference in fuel economy but have the peace of mind of reliability, and quite frankly the balls to overtake when I need to handle business lol

Well I guess you guys won’t be buying the new tundra when it comes out in the next few years. There is nothing wrong with change. You have to put your trust in the engineers that put their life into manufacturing the next step. It’s evolution. I’m sure at one point, a V8 was not the most reliable option on the market. If everything was perfect as it was, we would never have the things we have today. I trust Toyota will put reliability in their new truck.

Chalk up another one who will never buy a 6 cyl "full size" pickup, let alone a turbo gasser. I'll either pull the plug on a 2020, or a lightly used year old model. Plus, a first year from any manufacturer is definitely out of the running. It doesn't matter that it's a Toyota. I don't want to be a test mule for a manufacturer.

I dont like the idea but Toyota has knocked it out the park with the Prius its reliability. It really is amazing what they have done with Prius. Just have to wait and see.

Ditto regarding my dedication and a V8 being my preference, but I'm an old fart and my opinion doesn't really matter.

I’m happy with my 5.7. Bought it before they do to the tundra what they did to the 3rd gen Tacoma

My 07 first year new gen with completely new power plant is still purring like a cat although I had to replace a power steering pressure sensor. It was 12 years old;)

Same here Gray Wolf. My 07 served me flawlessly for eleven years and I sold it for 50% less than I originally paid for it new. Not a bad return on my original investment.

What is the big deal? I am not a greenie, but you have to be set in your ways to pass up the HP increase (450hp) and more torque meaning more towing capacity. And to do that at 30+ miles a gallon. Add to that this thing is going to jump off the start line and will probably slam you back in your seats. Probably 5 second 0-60. I am looking forward to it.

A stock Tesla model 3 (I know it is all electric) will smoke a Hellcat all day long and you don't watch the gas gauge drop as you are doing it. I wouldn't make the jump to all electric, but what is the harm in a hybrid if ALL levels of performance are increased and your gas mileage doubles? Seems pretty obvious to me.

As a pilot, here’s a good reference...Once upon a time people all said “I’ll NEVER fly a 2 engine plane over water....” and here we are in 2019 with ETOPS up to 330 and no one bats an eye at it. Me personally I don’t care, but then again I’m not a curmudgeon.

If its built well, which they are putting in the time, the power/torque potential could be phenomenal. Off roading, that could be sketchy.

I want a tundra tesla is all im saying. 0 to 60 while hauling a broken down f150 in 2.4 seconds!

Real trucks use 6 force fed cylinders, so I’m not against that part. Regenerative braking being able to use the energy currently being thrown away is a wonderful thing in my mind. Not only are Priuii ( plural for Prius??? ) reliable, hybrid Camrys have been for years too.

Maybe I’ll be decided by the time my ‘08 becomes my ex.

Am not to sure about that. They do have a reliable hybrid system but as far as the engine. Its shitty. My 3rd gen has issue with oil pooling in the intake manifold egr cooler getting blocked up by carbon by the oil getting sucked in threw the intake manifold. They are also known for head gasket failure because of the egr system getting clogged. Toyota doesnt want to recognized the problem of their bad design. And the piston oil drain holes were flawed design which lead up to the rings getting caked up when they started telling people 10k mile oil change is the new recommendation. I still love my prius i get 52 mpg if i try going to work. But ill stick to changing my oil every 5k. Hopefully they keep the 5.7 engine and connect it to a hybrid system wishful thinking with the battery in between the bed and chassis

I like my 5.7. It simply works. Add gas, change oil, replace wipers. Works.

If they go the turbo/hybrid/mr. fusion direction, I want to see it work and the bugs get sorted out at the full-size truck scale before buying in. New tech can have issues. That’s certainly not a slam on Toyota, just a reality.

I’m in no rush to trade this one in. Yet.

The problem I have with towing with a Twin Turbo set up (Before I got a Tundra I borrowed a 3.5L Ecoboost for a bit while I saved for Tundra downpayment between my trucks) the Twin Turbo ecoboost got 7 maybe 8 mpgs towing the same stuff my Tundra on the flatbed does now. My Tundra with the V8 gets 10 maybe 11 on good day. The 13 Ram Hemi I had did it at 10 as well. Twin Turbos seem to not be very efficient while towing loads as gassers from my experience. This is why I prefer the V8.

EDIT: I have no experience towing with a hybrid however but if the it is a Hybrid V8 it will probably still be good you just be using the gas side of the powerplant just like you would in a non hybrid engine for towing most of the time. I am guessing.

Yup, might as well enjoy the benefits of owning a Toyota truck by owning it for the long term. If you’re going to trade every 2-3 years you’re missing out IMHO

I know several Prius owners and absolutely zero of them have had your experience with them. One has well over 200,000 miles on his. I don't own one and I believe you. Juat saying they have the best hybrid out there. Electric motors are extrodinarily powerful. Especially at low speeds. Just look at what a Tesla can do.

I'm holding out for the all electric.

I have a friend with a Tesla 3 and its insane. The most neck snapping acceleration I've experienced. Makes a Charger look like a toy. An EV truck would make an amazing rock crawler.
