    I wasn't instigating anything.
I wasn't asking for an explanation; I was just sharing an experience.
My knowledge (or lack of) of another driver's mental state does not preclude me from driving.

Dude, the tailgater was an asshole. Following too closely is a citation...just like passing on the shoulder of the road. If I jump in the left lane to pass, the intent is to keep up with the flow of traffic...not to go 100mph when the a-hole comes up and swerves to get me off the road. If you don't understand that, then you are part of the problem.

Always drive defensive. Don't react to buttheads
Some buttheads will shoot at you. We had a discussion at work last Friday how bad the drivers are here in Denver Metro. F**k8ng stupid shit drivers. Even box truck drivers. 18 wheelers can be iffy at times too.

    DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME
I heard of a fish & wildlife guy who couldn't stand tailgaters. He had access to beau-coup bits of critters and he collected a couple ounces of skunk scent, preserved it in alcohol, then rigged-up a windshield washer sprayer to the rear of his old pickup, complete with dash control button. Along comes a tailgater and he'd hit the magic button. They assumed his pickup hit a skunk and maybe the carcass flung up under their rig, and they usually pulled off the road to see if it was stuck to their grille or something. I'm thinking that's an illegal mod the wildlife guy did, but it worked for him.

While that maybe your take it certainly isn't the legal stand point. The posted speed limit is the fastest you are legally allowed to go on the highway. The fact that we all ignore the speed limit is meaningless. The other lanes are for those who choose to go slower than the posted speed limit.

I believe it made news when a lady got a ticket for driving in the left lane and was going the speed limit. She failed to move over. I think it eas dropped due to publicity. But I'm sure the officer wrote a legal ticket.

Edit, found story. 2mph under in left lane.

If she was doing 65, there would be no way to issue any ticket. The left lane is only for those doing the speed limit. This is why the signs say, slower traffic keep right.

Depends on the state. I know in Utah you can get a ticket for impeding traffic doing rolling roadblock type stuff. Speed limits down there are basically just suggestions. Flow of traffic is essentially what is expected, but if there's an accident on slick roads or something they'll definitely tack on "driving too fast for conditions." So many layers and variables when it comes to traffic laws.

Stuff like that makes me concerned because I occasionally drive for work in the US and there's no way in hell I'm going to speed in a car I rented for work...

    I see three things wrong:
    1. At Exit 252B, you crossed a solid white line on the lane change which is a no no, you should have merged when the line was dotted (this is being picky I get that…)
    2. If you are not actively passing traffic, you should have moved over right. Granted, there’s a lot of traffic, but most states you can’t just cruise in the left most lane, you have to be actively passing traffic.
    3. Your back window is dirty.

"I just played it cool and let the fool take off. He will probably get into an accident at some point." is the key takeaway phrase here. Well played, good sir. Well played. Red Foreman would be proud.

A lot of states have laws about impeding the flow of traffic. I’m not saying it’s ok to speed, but if someone is in the left lane not passing anyone with a line of cars behind them, then the cops can write them a ticket.

When I lived in MD, the troopers used to tell me they won’t pull anyone over up to about 75mph (limit is 65) on I95 in order to keep traffic flowing.

    haha...
    1) yeah, I know, but I had that semi next to me and there was not a good place to get over. If I had tried to go in front of him, then I would have cut him off. While traffic was going slow, it was easier to get in behind him. :notsure:
    2) On this part of I35, the only lane restrictions are that semis cannot be in the left lane. Once you get out of town (10-15 miles north), then there is a lane restriction for the left lane. There are signs that say, "left lane for passing only." So, other than that, it would be a courtesy (not a requirement) to move out of the left lane to let traffic pass. However, this was medium to heavy traffic with 3 lanes going about the same speed. I was keeping up with the flow of traffic and preparing for the sudden stops that happen in this stretch.
    3) OMG, right? it is oak pollen season. I can't keep my truck clean.

Well you sure did the right thing by keeping your cool. I installed this thingy just for fools like that. At least if he does hit me this will slow him down a bit.

There was a guy on here about a year ago whose truck was totaled because he was rear ended on his hitch instead of the bumper taking the impact. The force went through the hitch to the frame and bent it. Bumpers are designed to take the impact.

Couple things I generally follow when it comes to the shit show of our highways and driving in general...

    1. Always drive defensively and keep your eyes open, paying attention to the road.

    2. If someone wants to go faster than you, pull over and let them. When an asshat would fly by, my dad would say "we'll see him wrapped around a tree," or, "going nowhere fast"

    3. Allow plenty of time to get where you're going!!!! Leave early, drive safe, and relax. I'd rather arrive 5-10minutes early, than trying to slalom through traffic to "just make it"

    4. If you are in an uncomfortable situation (tailgater, road raging idiots, asshat drivers, distracted drivers, rainbows, slow traffic etc Pull the f@ck over and let someone else drive.

    5. Don't be a DICK!!!

If everyone is driving 80mph in a 55mph and you want to do the 55mph speed limit in the left lane... You are the Dick. Pull over and let someone else drive, get in the slow lane, or push the pedal on the right to match speeds and flow with traffic.

    6. Don't forget to check your backseat for your kids!!! Lol
