As I was driving home and merging onto I35, I encountered this tailgater. I was signaling from the start of the clip until I got into the left lane. The guy in the left most lane backed off so I perceived that as him letting me over. I couldn't move over right away because there was a truck to the left and in front on me in the left lane. As the left lane cleared in front of me, I started to move over. That is when I noticed this guy speed up. I was already committed to the lane change so I completed the move. Well, I guess guy thought that I cut him off and he proceeded to tailgate me dangerously close. I really thought that he was going to hit me. Traffic then started to slow and so I braked. I left alot of extra room in front of me so that I would have time to stop should traffic come to a screeching halt (which it does in this stretch). Well, this guy didn't like that. He was swerving all over the lane and riding up on my ass. When he finally passed me, he ran off onto the shoulder, across some double while lines, and into a merge lane. He then zig zagged through a bunch of other cars until he was no longer visible. If he was in such of a big assed hurry, he could have move around me when I first got into the left lane.... there was room.

I just played it cool and let the fool take off. He will probably get into an accident at some point.

    EDIT:
There was some conjecture that I moved into the left lane, slowed down, and blocked traffic.

Well, here is the video from the front dash cam:

I agree there was plenty of room for anyone with decent driving skills to maneuver around you, if they wanted.

You have plenty of patience, I would have given them a light brake check, just the lights to warn of what could happen if you suddenly needed to brake for something real up ahead.

I always tell my kids, "Think Ahead".

I quick slap of the shifter to S4 usually gives a good amount of engine braking to slow someone down without brake lights illuminating.

This is the reason I love my cargo/3rd brake light loaded with 2 bright ass Bajas....hooked it up to a remote fob that has 2 strobe speeds for blasting ppl who wanna ride my tail. I have yet to use it.

Part of the positive of driving a lifted truck is to be able to ignore all the little cars who wanna get close to your ass to annoy you.

Ehh, that's every time you get on the highway here. That guy is probably from California.

In his defense, gas prices are damn high and he's probably just saving fuel by drafting you.

That just sucks dude. That guy was flat dangerous. You didn't cut him off. If it were me I would have thought he was giving you room to move over also. He had plenty of room to get around you in the other lane if he wanted to. He was looking for a reason to be a jackwagon. Some people go through life as unhappy condescending pricks so they work at being as irritating to others as possible. You handled it as good as possible.

A guy did something like this to a good friend of mine. He's a 6'4 3rd generation logger. The ass finally got in front of my friend and then pulled over. He got out and started to holler at my friend. My friend decided to get out of the truck and have a dialogue with the jerk. The jerk just happened to be driving a white 2nd gen Tundra with a topper. His demeanor changed as Christopher got out of his truck. I guess his survival skills and common sense kicked into gear. Luckily Christopher thought it was kinda cute how the guy talked a lot of smack until the situation got a little more personal.

If there is anyone on this forum that lives around Red Feather Lakes in the mountains in northern Colorado that drives a white Tundra with a topper and a black mountain decal towards the top of their tailgate that had an encounter at a stop sign with a big guy that looks like he stepped out of a ZZ Top poster, you should think about hollering at people that you don't know. Not everyone is as level headed as my friend.

That a$$hole had plenty of chances to go around you. I would have reported his tag for passing in that right side shoulder like that. You wanna see some real idiots...youtube "idiots in cars" and watch some of those.

You probably wouldn't go out of your way to create that kind of situation.

Only ass whupping I ever got was from a guy that was about 125 lbs. He left numerous little red bumps all over my face. That guy was fast. Just another reason not to screw around with people that one doesn't know.

Non-Driving Morons couldn't heard a Billy goat to water. I get run out of my lane every couple days and the only reason I avoid them is I'm afraid they wont have the parts to fix my truck.

Has anybody heard of an ERRT? Emergency Release Railroad Tie, all you do is pull a lever under your dash and it releases a railroad tie from under your bed behind your rear bumper for a nice surprise to the tailgater! Just kidding…. Best thing to do is just act like you don’t even see a jackass like this behind you, it will only provoke them. More important to pay attention to what is going on in the road in front of you.

@Netmonkey - It appears there is nobody in front of you by about 1/2 a mile when you make that lane change. The car gets upset because they have to slow down and your acceleration is slow (for left lane traffic). You then maintain that lane rather slowly instead of passing anyone.

The car probably sees lumbering drivers shift all the way over to the left lane clogging it up with their slow acceleration and mild driving speeds all the time. To me, that's what you were doing.

Driver over reacts and drives like an arse. But I personally always try to pass folks who do exactly what you did in that video. Those folks maintain the lane, 10 car lengths from the driver infront of them and sit back and cruise.

No offense but your breaking the law and thats pretty rude. It is your responsibility when in the left lane to move out of the way. If you are in the left lane and not passing and others are behind you, move over. It's not their responsibility to move around you.
