I’ve got an issue that I have no idea how to fix, and I’ve also taken it to multiple techs that can’t diagnose the issue either. I’ve got the 5.7L.

Basically when I’m accelerating there’s something that’s making the motor run rough, kind of jerky and there’s a pulse in the rpms. I feel like it’s getting really bad fuel mileage to. I have the large fuel tank and I’m barely getting 400 miles out of it.

I’ve replaced the MAF and TPS sensors. One of the techs changed the transmission fluid and said he didn’t see any irregularities in it (what ever that means).

My wife has the same truck and hers drives just fine so I know I’m not trippin lol.

Anyone have the same issue of herd of anything like this?

No codes? Maybe you need a software or pcm reflash? Do you hear or feel anything mechanical?

Getting 400 miles to the tank isn’t terribly accurate. You need to calculate mpg. I almost never run my tank below half. But when I did I was surprised how much fuel I had left when the fuel light came on. But I only get like 12-13mpg which would be 456 miles per tank if lucky.

bad fuel or water in fuel could cause pinging. Which is sort of a weird sensation. Computer should be able to compensate. But stranger things have happened.

I’ve ran a bunch of injector cleaner through it.

it’s got 100K on it but it’s been doing this for a while now.

I’ve had one check engine light and it was for the MAF so I replaced it with an oem.

I’ve unhooked the battery a lot for wiring lights and what not. Even replaced the battery a few months ago.

    I’ll check the pcv.

When I first bought the truck I drove it between Austin and Pittsburgh a few times and I was getting about 560 miles to a tank. yeah it’s all highway but most of my driving is highway anyway.

My philosophy is usually keep driving until something breaks, then there’s no need to guess what the problem it haha. but it’s been doing this for about 50-60K miles and nothing had broken yet lol.

    Flex fuel?

When there's hesitation under acceleration it makes me think fuel rail pressure.

Has anyone put a data recorder on to capture what might be going on?

Certainly wouldn’t hurt, but wouldn’t an extreme issue like he’s describing throw a cylinder misfire code?

My truck did this when I had a defective igniter coil. They don’t alway throw codes initially when failing. Be sure to only use Denso or OEM Toyota coils.

You would think but sometime it has to be really severe. Not sure why.

The list of things that can cause “fish bite” acceleration is very long.

    codes help shorten this.

? Disconnecting a battery starts with disconnecting the negative cable first.

EZ fix...pull the ignition fuse out of your wife's truck. After she experiences a no start and you "fix" it, explain to her that it would be best for you and her to swap trucks.

Found this thread that seems to cover the issue we both seem to be having. Will try topping off the tank and resetting the ECU before moving to replace parts. But based on the descriptions, fairly confident about the next steps. -
