The weird thing is tho , on long trips I get my best gas mileage at 80mph witch gives me 14mpg any thing under that it doesn't like to go above 10mpg. Its a relatively recent decrease in my daily MPG. I do not understand why it would be getting worse with out a issue arising. It shouldn't be this bad. When I first got it of course it wasn't as mod'd I could reach 27mpg on the High way an 18mpg in daily commute. After every thing I was down to 22 n 15 with nothing changing sense then its now in the weird 8mpg any time. Seems like a sensor issue to me or something going wrong.

It almost seems I get better mpg the harder I drive it other wise the it just uses gas for no reason. Almost like gallons per time an not miles per gallon is what it is on.

Like seriously, I could hit those numbers but that was hypermiling on highway.

Still have the question of why my MPG is going down with nothing changing from 15 area to 8mpg , just a week ago I was getting 10mpg this week it turned into 8mpg :(

I almost want to say its dumping fuel an burning rich but during monitoring every thing is in opt spec nothing even close to indicating its rich. Its starting to drive me crazy. I'm about to start blaming the oil at this point. I switched from 0-20 castrol high milage synthetic an wix xp filter to the service pro 0-20 synthetic and oem filter.

My buddy has an 08 DC and he started putting 10w40 in his engine because of high milage and he lost 5 mpg. He put the normal 5w? back in and milage went back up. Not sure the truth around it but its what he said. And yes he Scanned his engine and had no errors

It doesn't get better mileage the harder you drive it, you are at lower load and throttle plate position when your at speed, maintaining and not accelerating. You should accelerate with spirit, not gun it, and get to speed quickly. Lugging it and driving like a dead grandmother just means your spending more time in accelerating phase, which is what kills mileage.

I agree. Best mileage I ever saw was 22 mpg coming down 8,000 ft elevation mountain for 45 miles, and a clear, flat highway for about 50 miles.

5.7 V8 aerodynamics of a garden shed = 13-15 mpg if you stay out of Beast mode. My old Chevy Silverado was about the same.
    Nothing new here.

Still think I get better mileage driving easy full time in tow/haul mode and the trans in "S" mode. The trans doesn't slip nearly as much as it does in drive. But I may be crazy. :goingcrazy::notsure:

That’s interesting...tow haul holds the engine in lower gears longer with higher revs...seems it would burn more gas.

I managed to get 44 mpg for 2 miles by doing the following.

    -Hit Tow/Haul
-Mash to top of large hill going 80 MPH
-Hit the reset button on the MPG gauge at the top of the aforementioned large hill
-Do not touch the gas for the next 2 miles
-Take a selfie to prove it

    Easy

But seriously, best I can do is getting up to about 17-18 going downhill without touching the gas, which then averages out to 13 when I have to go back up the damn hill.

I love the blatant poke in the eye to all those RAM guys towing the ghost trailers (mirrors out and flipped up) to drive to the mall.

As for our OP, he added a lift and tires while not hurting mpg. I'd call that a win!

Yes if you get into the throttle too much it will hold gears and rev up. If you drive it easy it pretty much shifts like it does in D

agree with this. I average somewhere around 16 on most tanks and I try to get up to speed as quickly as possible then maintain. Seems to work best as the truck always feels like it wants to get up and go

Well I figured out why my MPG was dropping for no reason. My Park/Neutral switch was developing a short. After replacing it it went back to normal before I started having symptoms.

At this point From what It felt like it was running weird maps an couldn't figure out how to optimize its power or economy felt like it was stuck going in-between regular an beast mode all the time.

I think I forgot to reset my trip odometer the previous time I filled up. Pretty sure I didn't get 24 mpg (9.8 L/100 km) on that last tank.

You never know. There are more than a few hills where I live. Filled up yesterday and have driven about 80 miles since then. Mileage right now is sitting right at 17.9MPG. It's all in how one drives.

I don’t “worry” about the gas mileage, but I have found myself trying to stare that darn MPG gauge down to eek out an increase, possibly just out of commuter boredom.

I’ll try S mode today and see if that makes a difference.

the sweet spot on flat freeway seems to be 67 mph. I have gotten as high as 23.5mpg, but that is right after a fillup and a trip reset, followed by a mostly flat 2 hour drive with light traffic.

I managed 15.1 mpg on my last two tanks. I didn’t really baby it. I did do a lot of coasting to stops, and I kept my foot out of it on hills, trying to keep the mpg gauge as close to the center line as possible. I would gather speed ahead of hills to avoid the throttle. After cresting hills, I’d mostly coast.

in heavy traffic I’d keep a big bubble in front of me and just chug along while everyone in front of my hammered on their brakes and throttle continuously. When dildos entered the bubble, I’d deep breathe and whistle.

I also am a believer in not trying to babyfoot acceleration. Just get up to speed and then back off.

I improved my gas mileage significantly.

I leave the Tundra parked and daily drive a Civic. Tundra only sees road trips and towing duty. Boom! Better fuel economy!

Added benefit of only putting like 8000kms/year on my Tundra. It will literally last for the rest of my life at this point.

Agree with that. Just did my plugs (way too many miles on them) and noticed and instant jump in mileage.. And this is not just a take it down the road 10 min. This was on a 2000 miles trip in just under 48 hours one weekend. The following weekend saw an additional 1500 miles, and 1500 miles the weekend after that.
